I've got my world planned out. It will be similar to the real world, but different.
The leagues, and a short description: North American League of Baseball: Is the top league in the world and is based roughly on Major League baseball. It is made up of two leagues, the Senior Association (pseudo-NL) and the Junior Association (pseudo-AL). It has 36 teams. 30 of the teams are essentially caricatures or meant to represent current MLB franchises. The other 6 are new: The Buffalo Upstatesmen, the Portland Rose Citys, the Charlotte Bankers, Omaha Collegiates, Las Vegas Thunderbolts and Honolulu Islanders. The Japanese League: Is a two conference, 14 team league in Japan. Playing at roughly AAA and a half level. Roughly follows the *** model, only there are teams added/moved. Korea League: South Korean league with 8 teams that plays at AA level. Taiwan League: Taiwanese league with 6 teams that plays somewhere between High-A and AA. China League: Mainland Chinese league with 6 teams that plays at about Rookie level. British League: A insignificant 4-team league that plays a 20 game schedule. The teams in the league all take their names from large companies. Play at approx. the level of play as a decent high-school. South African League: Like the British league, the 4 teams in this league get their names from large international companys. Play at College level. Other leagues that I haven't yet fleshed out: Italian League: Will be a High-A ball rated league. Dutch League: Will be somewhere between AA and High-A. Australian League: AA level league. Carribbean/South American leagues: Leagues in Dominican Republic, Mexico, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Panama, Nicaragua, Colombia and Cuba all will be in it. There may also be leagues in some other countries as well. Spanish League: Play at College level. Czech Republic: Play at college level. Filipino League: Play at college level. Greek League: Play at the level of a bad high-school. And various independent leagues. |

Anywho, I'm planning on re-forming my Hobbit League in the new version but I'm kinda waiting until I see what capabilities it has. I'd also love to do a type of World League but again, I'm skeptical that I can pull it off like I want to.

I've got the foundation laid for the Frozen North Baseball Association based entirely in Alaska. I'll prolly be running it in conjuction with real MLB (if i can, we'll have to see) along with other various independent leagues throughout the world.

Isn't that a quote from Adolf Hitler? Mr Godwin, call your office. One of things that excites me most about 2K6 is the elimination of the 255-run and 25-season constraints. I've wanted to do a re-play/extension of the American Pro Slo-Pitch Softball League of the 1970s (I actually went to a few Detroit Caesars games as a kid), but I had to make the seasons insanely short to keep players from scoring/driving in/allowing 255 runs. Also, I want to create a universe where people have 50+ year careers: they start as little leaguers, then high school, college, minors, majors, then finally recreational/senior leaguers. And how about a universe where baseball season never ends? In this reality (which I call "Baseball 365"), the ~330-game regular season begins New Year's Day, and Game 7 of the World Series is scheduled for New Year's Eve. Next day...it all starts again! |

Sorry if I missed this, but will player movement between leagues be allowed, say between an independent league and the major leagues?

I'm not a huge fan of moving away from traditional league setups (yeah I have no imagination). However, one idea I have is to set up a league so that each division is setup for one state (or two), and all the division winners could play in a tournament-style post-season. Large states like CA, TX, FL, NY would have 8 teams each in their own division, while middle states like TN, NC, MN, WA would have 4 teams each and small states like VT, ME, RI would have 2 teams. It would also be awesome if I could make it so only people from those states could play on those teams. I dont know if any of this is plausible, but it's an idea.
Oddly enough I've always wanted to do this since the movie Baseketball, with the giant tournament it had. I've also been very against the promotion/relegation thing, but after thinking about it, I think it would be cool to do in a league, maybe even this one, somehow. |

I have been planning on two leagues. One will be a Massachusetts league, with 267 teams for the 267 cities. The other will be a historical replay, but I will put the batters at the max and the pitchers at the minumum for everything.

My baseball world will start in the year 2003. The Major Leagues will be set up as in real life, but with two expansion teams - the New Orleans Creoles and the Carolina Monarchs. The two leagues will be split into four divisions, each having four teams, as follows:
NL NORTH Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Cardinals NL SOUTH Atlanta Braves, Carolina Monarchs, Florida Marlins, Houston Astros NL EAST Montréal Expos, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates NL WEST Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants AL NORTH Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians, Kansas City Royals, Minnesota Twins AL SOUTH Baltimore Orioles, New Orleans Creoles, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Texas Rangers AL EAST Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays AL WEST Anaheim Angels, Colorado Rockies, Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners The playoffs will have 16 teams, 8 in each league; there will be no DH (nor will there be one in any of my leagues), as the Rockies have been relocated to the AL; all moves will take place as they did in real life from 2004 to the start of this 2006 season - the Phillies and Padres moving to new stadiums in 2004 and the Cardinals moving into theirs in 2006; the Expos moving to Washington in 2005 (after which they will flip-flop divisions with the Braves), even the Angels being re-named the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. There will be six minor leagues - Triple A, Double A, Class A Advanced, Class A, Class A Short Season, and Rookie. There will also be eight independent leagues, each with eight teams. As for the rest of the universe, the following foreign countries will have their leagues: NORTH AMERICA Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, El Salvador, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica SOUTH AMERICA Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela EUROPE Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Moldova, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, Yugoslavia ASIA China, Chinese Taipei, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam AFRICA Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe OCEANIA Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea More nations are likely to be added; each nation will have at least two minor league classes

AAA, AA, A and Youth teams...They will mainly play the teams from their major league parent's division, to lessen travel, etc. Majors will play 200 games (120 (4 per team) total vs non division teams in same league, and 80 games vs divisional rivals (16 per team))... AAA will play 160 games (32 games vs other teams in parent division) AA will play 140 games (28 games vs other teams in parent division) A will play 120 games (24 games vs other teams in parent division) Rookie will play 90 games (18 games vs other teams in parent division) Majors playoffs will consist of the Division winners, plus 2 wildcards from the league... first round 5 game series, second round 7 game series, third round 7 game series, and the "real" World Series will be a 9 game series. There will be no Rookie playoffs, but I hope to schedule it so that the A playoffs end right before the AA playoffs begin, which will end right before the AAA playoffs begin, which will end right before the Major's playoffs begin. The thought being that a stud younger player can play his season out in A ball, and then get a taste of AA in their playoffs... same will apply to that AAA guy who can come up and help the team in the Majors come the playoff run. I actually like that we are using the SI soccer thing here... I like the Soccer league developmental system, and hope to make mine as similar to it as I can- meaning no draft, just developmental teams at a local level. Depending on how the game is setup, I may have rules for how many foreigners etc. or, rather- ‘out of region’ers… Because of the sheer number of games (I’m crossing my fingers for double headers as an option), I will have rosters be 30 in the majors, 35 in AAA, 35 in AA, 35 in A, and 40 in Rookie ball. I’m hoping to have it so that in the Majors, out of the 224 games, guys will play about 180-200 of them, if they stay healthy. Some superstars may play 200+, but it will hopefully be rare. I'm also making the ballparks huge. If you are gonna have a right/left field fence closer than 375 feet, the wall must be over 15 feet high. Center field fences must be over 415 feet away. I want to make the DH lumbering dummy's a thing of the past. If you want a home run- either hit a bomb, or leg it out, sonny! I want gap power and speed and defense in the outfield to matter again. You won't be able to hide a Manny/Bonds/Papi anymore. The 1B/DH spot will be the only place to hide those guys. And with the bigger ballparks, HR's will go down, but singles and doubles will most likely go up. Hit and runs will make more sense (outfielders will be playing deeper, so what might have been caught by a charging outfielder will fall in now, making it more likely to get a hit on the hit and run call). OK- that's about all I can remember- I've got it all planned out. I can't wait. |

I havent gotton to much into my league structure yet since I wont really know how it all lays out in game until I get my hands on it. Im spending most my time now working on my logos, photo packs for all the various leagues I want to have since that always seems to be the most time consuming part, for me anyway. Some interesting ideas in this thread though.

keeping it simple
Confederacy of Fantasy Baseball - Colonial and Frontier Leagues -> 8 teams each... each with an AAA, AA, A and Rookie affiliate ...
Doubleday League - better than AAA but less than the CFB -> 6 - 8 teams, each with an A affiliate, as well as an AA affiliate intermingled within the CFB's AA leagues (if that will work) Caribbean League - 6 - 8 teams, plays in the winter... roughly AA level, each with a A level minor league affiliate Some non-affiliated AAA, AA and A level teams to soak up some of the extra free agents and provide an extra pool Maybe maybe one other independant league similar to the Doubleday league... though i tend to lose track of players after awhile if there are that many I'm trying to think thru how the game might work in terms of initial player creation... how many... initial draft size... annual fantasy draft size, etc so as to keep a steady pipeline of players without drowning in free agents. Any thoughts? |

I forgot to add the following countries/areas to my previous thread:
AFRICA - Algeria, Senegal and Tanzania ASIA - Armenia, Hong Kong, Iran, Israel, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan EUROPE - Belarus, Estonia and Latvia NORTH AMERICA Puerto Rico Also, for my MLB minor/independent league teams, I've created an interesting rule - no city can have more than one. If a team has to be relocated, its new home must not already have a team.

I'll be keeping it pretty simple:
An MLB or MLB-like setup with full minors. Running parallel to that will be a Canadian League with a similar structure, AAA, AA, A, Rookie minors. Players will be able to move freely between leagues. I'll set the talent level of the Canadian Leagues to be about 60% of their US counterparts to start, and ramp it up to 75% over ten years (if changing the equivalencies in mind-game is possible.) Financials will be such that the best Candian teams will have a payroll of about $15 million. So, the very best Candian League Players will sometimes get poached by MLB, but the Canadian Leagues might be able to pick up some over-the-hill US players. I will start the Canadian League with only players under 26 (a la "Fill minors with fictional players".) I will simulate ten seasons before I take control of any team. The challenge will be as follows: Start out in the Canadian Minors (A or Rookie somewhere.) By managing only Canadian Teams (ie teams in the Canadian League, Canadian Teams in the US minors, or the Jays,) work my way up to whatever I can get to. That's basically it. I already have my cities and team names set up for all levels of the Canadian Leagues, using 2001 census data to distribute teams according to population. I'm now working on finding/creating all of those logos. Bah. |

USA: 40 teams, based very closely on MLB, 4 divs per league, 4 playoff teams per league, NO wildcard...no free rides. Only teams that win their division get a shot at the brass ring (anyone remember that quaint practice?)
AL East New York Boston Baltimore Buffalo Virginia Central Chicago Cleveland Minnesota Detroit Kansas City South New Orleans (or Louisville or Nashville...haven't decided yet) Tampa Bay Texas Memphis Charlotte West LA Angels Oakland Las Vegas Portland Seattle NL East New York Philadelphia Washington Pittsburgh Brooklyn Central Chicago Cincinnati Milwaukee St. Louis Indianapolis South Miami Atlanta Houston San Antonio Jacksonville West LA Dodgers San Francisco San Diego Colorado Arizona Other Nations: Canada - 12 teams...sister league to MLB...top quality....MLB equivalent. Europe: England, Scotland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, Netherlands, Ireland, Greece, Russia, Sweden Latin America: Mexico, Venezuela (US winter league), DR (US winter league), Cuba, Columbia, Argentina, Brazil, Chile. Africa: South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Congo (these & the inclusion of additional nations will be contingent on name files available). Asia: Japan, China, Taiwan, S. Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Turkey, & maybe Syria, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, etc. Oceania: Australia, New Zealand. Whew!

My league is probably going to be very similar to real-life MLB but with a few expansion teams and division moves to make each league have three divisions of six teams (current playoff format). There will also be 6 minor league level affiliates (AAA, AA, High A, Low A, Rookie, SS) and a few foreign leagues.
AL West: 1. Anaheim Angels 2. Las Vegas Storm 3. Oakland Athletics 4. Portland Cavaliers 5. Seattle Mariners 6. Utah Blazers AL Central: 1. Chicago White Sox 2. Cleveland Indians 3. Detroit Tigers 4. Kansas City Royals 5. Minnesota Twins 6. Texas Rangers AL East: 1. Baltimore Orioles 2. Boston Red Sox 3. Charlotte Raiders 4. New York Yankees 5. Tampa Bay Devil Rays 6. Foreign leagues will consist of the following (most of the cities included in these leagues are the actual ones used by these leagues, but many nicknames have been changed and a few of the cities have also been relocated to better fit my liking... the European League is completely fictional though): Mexican Baseball League NORTH: 1. Chihuahua Miners 2. Juarez City Indians 3. Mazatlan Oilers 4. Monclova Steelers 5. Monterrey Sultans 6. Reynosa Tigers 7. San Lucas Cowboys 8. Tijuana Colts SOUTH: 1. Acapulco Parrots 2. British Isles Baseball
Wow. I am planning an online league to run with friends. I never even considered the scale that most of you have brought up. I am planning on creating the British Isles Baseball League or BIBL as I like to call it. My idea is that WW II shut down baseball in the US and the war lasted for much longer, until 1949. And baseball in the US wasn't even attempted to restart until 1951. But after 10 years of being gone the fans had moved on to Football as their sport of choice and the MLB died a quiet death. Meanwhile in Englad, the British are suffering after five years trapped under Nazi rule (They invaded Englad in 1942-1943) And their cities are still largely ruined. A man emerges from the midst of all this and gets government backing to create something to give interest to the British people and spur a renewal of national and regional pride. The BIBL is formed with 4 teams in England, 4 in Scotland, 4 in Ireland and 4 in Wales. I plan to use a regular farm system setup with AAA, AA, A and rookie league. I will start the league in 1953 and I will add some veteran players from the US and over time I will add some real life US players as well. Plus I will take my British name pack out for a spin and smile at all the scottish, irish and welsh names.

I'm not to sure yet as to how I'll set my league up, I'm currently working on 16 leagues, 8 similar to MLB set-up with 'World Series' & full minors, then 8 lesser leagues. Depending on freedom to create my own fixtures I may create my own Cup(s) to give teams something extra to fight for, if the games will be counted as friendlies & records/averages not saved I'll create my own database using excel or something to keep an history of what happened & all the averages.
By time I get the game at the end of next month I'll probably end up with a completely different universe. So until I'm sure of what I want, I wont be creating logos, names or anything. |
