Fine, fine. Let's stick to relievers. You want Danny Kolb? I will personally drive to Atlanta, kidnap him, and drive him to Chicago. You don't even have to give us anything back in return.

Derrek Lee for Danny Kolb sounds very fair
If you want.. we could also pay for Lee's contract for the rest of his career

If this Howry signing goes down, expect some young relievers to get traded for an OF. BTW I don't think Giles is headed to the Windy city.

ESPN Radio is yet again announcing y'all have a done deal for Pierre. This time, though, they're actually naming a name.... Pinto.

Don't the Cubs already have a speedy centerfielder who can't hit?

Yeah..

Patterson 2005 OPS: .602 (Patterson did have less PA in 2005 though since he was sent down to AAA for awhile)
Pierre 2005 OPS: .688

not that much of an improvement Hendry

It's the third time in a week ESPN Radio has said this deal (Pierre, I mean... they haven't mentioned who for the other two times) was done and would be announced within 24 hours. So there's a good chance it's not.

Pierre for Pinto? Ouch. Renyel Pinto is my pick for ROY if the Marlins give him a shot. Look at his minor league numbers (mostly AA and a few awful AAA starts), the fact that he is a lefty, minus the goofy wind-up... and presto! You have another Dontrelle Willis. I hate to compare a Pinto to Willis, but at the time Dontrelle was traded, who had ever heard of him. Besides I'm tired of the Cubs trading guys like Jon Garland for the Matt Karchner's of the world.
Atleast the Cubs got one good year out of Alfonseca and a few out of Clement for Willis. I'm not banking on Pierre though.

Do you really think that Pierre will repeat the worst season of his career? He is likely to be a decent lead off man. Nothing special, but much better that Patterson, who couldn't even post a .300 OBP last year.

Seeing that cheers me up a bit

Seriously though, if Hendry pulls this deal off, I will really begin to doubt him. I've already doubted the Chicago Tribune for a long time. Maybe that's not saying much, but damn, Hendry made many questionable moves during his tenure (Stating the obvious?)

I mean, I don't know if I'd want him fired yet, but if he pulled the trigger on the deal for Pierre and actually depend on him to produce in a lineup, I will begin to doubt him.

Still, Pierre never had an OPS that touched .800. His career OPS is .730. Not exactly great.

Eh, to be fair to the guy, you can probably expect him to put up an OBP over .360. That's a somewhat above average leadoff hitter these days, I think. Power ain't everything. Also, Patterson's played his home games in a more hitter friendly environment.

Still, from the outside looking in, it doesn't look to me as if this deal solves any of y'all's problems.

I looked up Pinto, he appeared to have gotten shelled each time he stepped up to AAA. Was he considered one of the Cubs top pitching prospects or is he basically a placeholder?

Well, it partially solves the OF problem. The Cubs need at least two new outfielders unless they want to use Corey Patterson again.

Pinto was the top lefty starter in the minors for the Cubs. I beleive he led the Cubs' minor leaguers in strikeouts this past season and he was going to get a long look during spring training this year, especially if Wood coming off of surgery.

They also say that he's Hendry's backup plan if the Pierre deal falls through..... so Pierre is y'all's first choice.
