I ran a test league through today with 6.5b and then ran CATO afterwords.

I still had to add a hard break after the trade transactions and I also had to do a find and replace href=r to href=p.

I didn't find any problems though with retired players signing with another team, so that seems to be working fine.

As for the "r" and "p" bit. When a player retires his player number changes from a pxxx to rxxx and this has to happen for the game to recognize the player as retired. The reason we didn't have this problem with earlier versions of the game is because mid season retirements didn't happen. Players who retire at seasons end didn't seem to effect CATO, but mid season retirements do.

Bottom line here is, if you want to run CATO, you're going to have to do the "find and replace" part. Of course that only takes a matter of seconds. As for the hard break after each trade, that doesn't really take much time either.

For me personally, I'll keep doing ti manually when I run CATO. This is only going to last about another 6 months anyway, then OOTP2006 will be out and I think it's highly unlikely CATO in its current form will work with that at all. Most likely we'll see someone develop something new, or if we're real lucky, OOTP2006 will come complete with a CATO like feature.

Oh and I just used the regular "ltrans" file in my test. I didn't try changing things in the "lalltrans" file and renaming it to "ltrans" afterwords. I may try that tonight if I get time between all the games on today, if not I'll definitely do it tomorrow.

Will changing the r to p screw anything up in the game though - as far as the in-game almanac or anything else? Thanks.

Just tried to run Cato with the updated beta patch.

As soon as I imported the league I got the "type mismatch" error while reading the ltrans.txt file. So that problem has definitely not been solved.

Retested. Ran CATO on the same league, this time using Catofix, replacing the ltrans and lalltrans files. Got the same type mismatch error during import. It would appear that the updated beta patch solves nothing in this regard.

No this won't mess anything up in the game. The season is over, all the data the game requires from that season is written to the game/season database. If you are worried about messing anything up, which you shouldn't worry about, then make a copy of the ltrans file and tuck it away. Make the changes and run CATO. Once you're done CATO retore the copy of the ltrans.

The thing we have to understand here is that the problem is not with OOTP. It's with CATO.

CATO was developed long before 6.5 was ever heard of. Since the program is no longer updated by Jeff Cato, it can't be expected to adapt to every version of OOTP that comes out. As much as we'd like it to, we just have to accept that the game is going to continue to advance while CATO is not.

CATO is a great utility, but OOTP is beginning to pass it by. Sad but true. We can't expect Markus to stop making advances in the game just so a utility will continue to work.

This is the age of advancement. New advances are made in technology everyday. If some part of technology (in this case CATO) doesn't keep up with the advances, we can't expect the rest of technology to slow down and stop so the older, non advancing technology will keep working with it.

I understand the frustrations people are having, but I honestly believe it's time to accept the fact that CATO isn't going to work with OOTP much longer. As I said before, I'll be completely surprised if the CATO works at all with OOTP2006. New technology will have to be developed, as in someone who's good at programming will have to develop a new CATO. Unless of course Markus includes a CATO type ability in OOTP2006.

Ok, we are back to page one.

Since it is a simple search and replace, I will re-do catofix.

But, I need someone to tell me EXACTLY what to do.

"I still had to add a hard break after the trade transactions and I also had to do a find and replace href=r to href=p."

I think that is what the original catofix did.

So, correct me if i am wrong.

1. search and replace href=r to href=p
2. add a blank line AFTER the trade
3. Make a copy of the original lalltrans.txt file calling it original.lalltrans.txt
4. save the new file as lalltrans.txt

Is that all?

Assuming your program targets the lalltrans file, and that step 3 is actually done first. What you want is a modified lalltrans.txt eventually renamed ltrans.txt. What happens to the original ltrans doesn't matter to me. I don't think it's imperative to keep it, but for someone else it might be important.

I bolded the change. I do believe that sums it up, but give others a bit of time to review who are probably more knowledgeable. Cato goes to ltrans to gather the data, the primary reason we go to lalltrans to convert it is due to the fact the AI releases are in there. On that note, wasn't it determined that a hard break was at least recommended after releases or was it just suggested as a "just in case." Now I'll have to review myself, but I am confident of the note above.

Those more qualifed please double check my info. Thanks in advance.

OK, that was easier than beating the Houston Texans.

www.sim2005.com/newCatoFix.zip

Unzip it to the C:\Program Files\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP 6.5\1940.lg\LEAGUE_NEWS_BOX folder and run it.

It will do the search and replace and add a blank line after the trade.

It will save it as ltrans.txt.

The original alltrans.txt file is untouched, you may delete it if desired.

If you feel skirmish, or want to be extra careful, make a copy of the original ltrans.txt file.

NOTE FOR ALL CATO FILE USERS: When you are testing this, make sure that the alltrans.txt file was created by the NEW patch and not the old. Just installing the new patch does not replace the funky trans file. I am not actually sure when that is saved, when you save a league? I don't know.

Try switching around the words new and cato, so it is like this:

Can anyone please confirm if this new fix is indeed "the end all" fix for CATO? I have yet been able to test it as I work 12hr nights (for now )

Thanks.

You're going to just have to get your feet wet sooner or later. While I'm certain the verdict's still out for some, suitable for others, ultimately -- considering there are SO many other variables at play -- you have to find out whether it works for YOU. If it does, great. If it doesn't, tell us why and someone will try and work it out with/for you. But don't kid yourself thinking that even if 20 people post here saying yes, this is it! that it will positively, no doubt, without any reservation, put it to the test, work for you. YOU have to bite the bullet. There are no guarantees.

Like most cases around here, we cross the bridge when we come to it (pardon the cliche)....but you have to get to the bridge first. Get there and then tell us what you find. Or wait until an announcement. But even then...... there'll be questions. They never really end. Plunge Max, plunge.

How do I get the game to create a new alltrans.txt?

Anybody feel like looking at an ltrans.txt?

I keep getting a type mismatch, and then a "Run-time error '-2147467259 (80004005)'

I know I've seen this before, but the search function on the Boards isn't working.

If someone's feeling generous, please email me (gordy AT gordyhulten DOT com). I'm trying to fix CatoBase for my online league.

Thanks,

I just did some tests and you can't, that I can see. It looks like this is created and added to during the season.

I removed it from the folder and then went into the game and played a day. Exited and went in and looked and there was a new one. Showing the trade that took place that day. That was it. Nothing else. Same with the alltrans.txt file.

Which means, you will NOT know if the latest patch fix has solved the problem until you completely sim another season and proceed to the next season.

The file is NOT erased and then put back together at the end of each day.

My ltrans.txt has zero instances of "=r" or "r=" and I'm still getting a "type mismatch."
