And 'Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink' is one of the greatest names ever.

In college, after giving up playing hockey competitively (i needed to graduate as I wasn't going to play pro and the demands at that level are intense)I started playing club level lacrosse and rugby. I'd have practice for each three times a week and I began to ask myself if it was really easier on me than hockey.

Lacrosse basically ended my sporting career after catching a seam on the turf and tearing three ligaments in my knee, but the rugby team was the best. Most fun I've ever had in sport. The rugby guys actually got me into coaching youth soccer which is what got me into the game.

I think he looks pretty good; all-round forward, can hold it up, take a man on, intelligent, links up, etc. I'd like to see him playing centrally in place of Horseface to see what he looks like there. Might suit Newcastle.

Yeah, he likes to get involved with build up play and work the flanks too, I've been big on him for a while now as an ideal foil for Owen. Bugger.

Ouch, that sounds like a really nasty injury. Rugby really is great fun, especially if you play as a forward. You just get to run around tackling people and bundling into all the rucks and mauls. Great stuff! I still think back row forward is the best position to play, plenty of freedom.

Whatever happened to Andrew Mehrtens? Wasn't he being hyped as being one of the best flyhalves in the world a little while back, then Tony Brown took his place and apart from seeing him on the bench a few times I haven't really noticed him at all for years.

Mehrtens retired a year or so back. Carlos Spencer moved to playin England I think. Our #10 for the last 2 years and recognised as probably the best first-five eigth in the world is Daniel Carter, and all the girlies think he's hot too

Daniel Carter:

Why the girlies like him (homophobes please turn away)

People keep bringing up his crosses/freekicks but he's not the only player who in 90 minutes could eventually land one cross on the head of a 6'7" forward and he's not the only midfielder who knows how to hit a free-kick with pace into the space between the 6 yard box and the penalty spot.

Apart from his lack of pace the biggest problem is his total and utter lack of tactical discipline. It wrecks the midfield every game no matter what shape or system is played as Beckham either plays too deep or wanders where he likes and never moves to make himself available. Just before halftime in the Sweden game the ball went out near Joe Cole on the left wing for a throw-in and Cole looks up to see Beckham about to take the throw in. What the hell was he doing over there?

The solution? Clearly to drop him and play a midfield system which could win the world cup.

Play 5 in midfield with Hargreaves and Carrick holding, giving both the workrate of Hargreaves and passing ability of Carrick, play Lampard central, Gerrard on the right and Joe Cole on the left with Rooney up front.
What do you guys reckon?
