Jackson retains title, rematch ordered

***note*** since I'm doing the "fight the guy closest in the rankings" month in () before the record will be their ranking before/after the fight ... remember the club fighters are ranked separately

May 28, 1909

Peter Jackson (21-3) won by a 3rd round disqualification over (#8/6) Billy Myer (24-7-3) for his 10th defense of the LBC Welterweight title. Myer filed a protest after the bout and the LBC agrees that it was stopped too quick but upheld the 4 month suspension. After serving the suspension he will be the mandatory challanger for Jackson.

Jackson caught a thumb in the eye in the first which caused his right eye to almost swell shut immediately. With a sense of urgency he layed into Myer in the second and near the end of the round Myer hit Jackson with an obvious low blow. The referee, Frank Cappacino, stepped in and warned Myer right before the bell.

Myer came out for round 3 and the first punch he threw was low again. Cappacino stepped in and stopped the fight. Afterwards Cappacino said that normally he would have taken a point away but both low blows were obvious and thrown with bad intentions, also the first punch Myer threw after being warned was low again.

Myer had no comment accept to say he would file a complaint. Jackson said "well he put his thumb in my eye in the first and then hit me low twice, seems to be the only way he can stay in the fight with me is to cheat".

On the undercard

FW - William Curley (1/3) (10-6-3) DRAW10 Jimmy Briggs (5/2) (11-10-5) (a loss came off of Briggs' last five while a win came off of Curleys')
LH - Joe Butler (2/2) (28-7-1) SD10 John Flood (16/17) (6-10-1)
WW - Frank Burke (UR) (7-0) UD8 Fighting Kennedy (UR) (5-6) (both fighters at pp for this club fight)
LW - Young Otto (9/12) (8-16-4) DRAW10 Jimmy Britt (11/11) (7-14-4) (club fight)
WW - Jim Judge (7/8) (7-11-1) DQ9 Dick Burge (4/3) (15-19-2) (club fight, no logical explanation for the change in rankings)

Usually I can somewhat explain them but in that case .... Burge had a draw drop off his last 5 and Judge had a loss drop off.

Lets go Jack hopefully he can pick up the Title again espically after some of the heartbreakers he lost in the past.

All 4 of his losses have come by TKO in late rounds in title fights. Even though he is a little older (down an overall point because of being in post-prime stage) he should have more than enough for Baker.

Sweet yeah I was thinking of the Ryan fight where if I remember correctly he was winning easily before getting stopped.

I am going to list the before and after rankings now on the fight cards listed as (before/after) all rankings will be the LBA rankings unless it's a title fight for another organization.

Also this month I have two 4 fight cards before the 11 6 fight cards ... had an odd number of fights (more main than club for some reason this month)

June 1, 1909

HW - John Sullivan (20/13) (29-7) TKO4 Punch Vaughn (UR) (8-5)
HW - Jim Dwyer (44/36) (21-10-1) KO4 Mike Conley (UR) (8-3) (Dwyer had lost 4 of his last 5 before this fight)
MW - Kid Locke (UR) (9-4) TKO5 Mike Donovan (18/17) (21-17-4) (better loss than the one that dropped off his last five)
LW - Danny Duane (17/14) (10-10-2) TKO8 Joe Ellingsworth (UR) (8-2)

June 6, 1909

WW - Wildcat Ferns (UR) (10-3) TKO8 Billy McMillan (UR) (8-1-1) (jinxed McMillan by putting him on the above list before this fight, he was way ahead when he got TKO'd though)

LW - Jack Everhardt (21/17) (11-5-2) SD10 Charley White (15/13) (not a good reason but a worse loss came off of Charley's last 5)

BW - Cockney Cohen (16/16) (8-6-2) TKO8 Casper Leon (18/club) (12-17-5)

HW - Bill Curran (UR) (9-3) KO8 George Perry (UR/46) (7-4-4)

HW - Frank Moran (UR) (8-0) UD8 Mike Brennan (club) (13-18) (Moran fought at pp for this club fight)

HW - Jack Palmer (club) (14-18) TKO8 Jim Miles (club) (7-21-4) (club fight)
