2031 SEASON WEEK 2 and a great career comes to a distinguished close.
2031 SEASON WEEK 2
RECORD: 3-3 OVERALL: 5-7 2 GB RUNS SCORED: 50 (28) 10th RUNS AGAINST: 53 (27) t-8th OWNER/FANS: Happy 50/100 (they were unhappy with a trade you'll read about) SCHEDULE: 1 @ Los Angeles/Off Day/3 @ Sacramento/2 vs Houston 4/7 SAN 3 LA 2 W-Green (1-1) L-Brown (0-2) S-Davenport (2) HR SAN-Perez (1) LA-Concepcion (2) Green 8 IP 5 H 2 ER 6 K's Brown (LA) 8 IP 7 H 3 ER 6 K We cannot draw walks. We won today, despite walking zero times. Heeren (2-4 GW RBI) singled in Santos in the 8th to win it. Bullock 2-4 2B (1). 4/8 Off Day I managed to convince a former player to return, and have signed IF Kevin Vaughn to a 3 year 4.2M dollar contract. He's an outstanding defender who switch hits, plays 2B/SS and 3B as well as CF, and does them well to excellent. He's an above average to very good hitter vs LHP and can handle his own vs RHP as well. 31 year old backup IF Duane Akers is designated for assigment to make room on the 25 man, as Akers is out of options. I traded for him while in Chicago, getting him from the Yankees in 2022 in a deal that sent Massimiliano Lorenzelli to Staten Island. I then acquired him, along with prospect (at the time) Enreecko Obispo, while in Alaska (in 2026) where he spent 2 productive seasons. I dealt him to Brooklyn in 2028 for RP Hunter Moore and IF prospect (and now starting SS) Ken Sexton. He's a career .285/.333/.398 hitter with 49 HR's in 697 games. He's been a part of 2 world champion runs, 2023 and 2025 with Chicago. 4/9 SAC 4 SAN 3 W-Kelley (2-0) L-Martinez (0-2) S-Uribe (2) HR SAN-Cook (2) SAC-Soto (1) Schneider (2) Martinez 7+ IP 11 H 4 ER gave up Soto HR in the 8th to lose it. Offense beats up Angelo Esparza for 9 H's 6 R's (2 earned) in 4.2 IP. Sanders gets his first IBL win with 2 hitless innings. Heeren 2-6 2B (1) 3 Runs Cook 3-6 2B (2). LINEUP NEWS-Stan Park is off to a horrid start. Through 10 games he's got a slash of .143/.217/.143 and is just 6-42, with all 6 being singles. The upside is we're just 4-6. Going to give it through mid next week to see if things improve, if not it'll be time to sit down with the manager and talk about some tweaks to the lineup. MINORS NEWS-21 year old Black Sox P prospect Matt McCready tossed a perfect game against the New Haven Mountaineers. The former 2nd rounder out of Florida (2030) is 1-1 2.33. He struck out 6. 4/12 SAN 7 HOU 5 W-Jorgensen (1-1) L-Gomez (0-3) S-Kijani (1) HR HOU-Soto (1) Lopez (1) Soriano (1) SAN-Bullock 2 (5) Miller 4.2 IP 9 K's 4 H 98 pitches, he must have tired, and had to come out. Our pen is being crushed right now (more on that in a minute) Parl 2-4 2 R 2 RBI's (4) (must have known the backroom chatter was going on...) Bullock 3-3 2 HR's 3 RBI's (9) NEWS-After the game I inform OF Jesus Gallo he's headed to Hawaii, and he doesn't seem all that upset. I need a solid arm for a depleted pen and Valdez is a 26 year old LH with power stuff. A starter by trade we'll send him down to the pen and see what shakes out. I made a smaller under the radar deal 3 days ago as well, swapping an arm for an arm with Larson being a guy that was AAA bound for life here. Carrasco is a decent pen arm in a pinch, and went to Wilmington to get his work in. CAREER NEWS-One of the coolest storylines I've ever seen, and it happened to a player I've followed for his entire career. I drafted him in 2014 out of UCLA and he got off to a nice start. In what I still consider my worst trade ever, I sent him to Tulsa for INF John Overhill. The very next month he tossed a no-hitter in AAA and a month after that threw his first of 12 regular season shutouts vs the Dallas Texans. Had 12 15+ strikeout games and at the time set the IBL single game record with 20 vs San Jose in 2029. He tossed his 1st, and only, no-hitter vs Dallas last April. He retires 2nd all time in strike outs in IBL history, his 3388 trailing Jesus Romano's (NY) 3632 and 326 ahead of Mike Lewis (EDM). His 174 wins place him 12th all time, 1 behind LA's Andy Morgan and 1 ahead of Clipper great Mike Jones. He won 12 or more every full season of his career except 1 (2029) and won 15 or more 6 times, including 5 straight seasons ('19-'23). He never won fewer than 10 games in a full season in his 12+ year career. 3000 K CLUB Mike Lewis (EDM) 8/28/30 (34 years 205 days) Also won his 200th game that day Jesus Romano (NY) 6/11/28 (35 years 105 days) Bryant Thomas (FRE) 7/7/29 (36 years 198 days) He was a 2 time all star ('19 and '22) and a 1 time world champion (2020) with the Tulsa Drillers. His HoF credentials are on the fence, though his 3388 K's are going to be a big help, as is his 11-4 post season record. 4/13 HOU 2 SAN 1 W-Figuera (1-1) L-Green (1-2) S-Canales (1) HR HOU-Brady (2) SAN-Irwin (1) Green 8.1 IP 2 ER 6 K's, leaves 2 on in the 9th and 1 scores, making him the loser. Figuera (HOU) 8 IP 1 ER 6 H (W) Irwin 2-5 HR RBI (1) Park 2-4 (now hitting an even .200) INJURY NEWS-Buffalo has lost ace Russell Wright (15-8 3.94 last year) for at least 4 months after he underwent exploratory shoulder surgery today. The Bisons are off to a 4-8 start. PLAYERS OF THE WEEK FL POTW-Domingo Casillas (AZ) 15-26 3 HR's 5 RBI's (.490-4-7) Won't be his last. Monster talent, just 20. CL POTW-Lorenzo Bermudez (FRE) 10-23 4 HR's 9 RBI's (.375-5-13) POWER RANKINGS 1) Alaska (1) 2) Tulsa (-) 3) Dayton (3) 4) New Hampshire (5) 5) Arizona (-) OUT Boston (16) Dallas (13) 22) San Antonio (27) Highest I've been since taking this job. IN ALASKA-They went 5-1 this week, outscoring opponents 53-31 (78-47). RJ is 2-0 0.56 and has thrown 16 IP with 21 K's and given up just 3 hits. Ricciardo Vasario has 14 RBI's, they are 9-2, 1.5 up on 8-4 Arizona. Gabriel Guerra is out 5-6 weeks, Raul Aguilar, their leading hitter (.387) is out another week. NEWS/NOTES MINORS NEWS-Top pick Jake Scott is 2-1 1.66 through 3 starts in AA Louisville. His line, 21.2 IP 15 H 8 BB 17 K's. Teammate Skip Bascombe is 1-0 0.00 through his 1st 2 starts, going 13.1 IP 3 H with 15 K's and 7 BB's.

STANDINGS LEADERS APRIL 14th
Like to think I helped Woolridge to his insane start. How about the 'Kid', hitting .490.

2031 Draft list is out
A look at the top players in this years draft. Right now I am picking 4th, 41st, 72nd and 106th.
I am in no position to be picky, I will take the best available player based on my scouts, and demands. I have 8.5M + a lot of money in the budget.

Edmonton learned SS Bob Ford will need another 4 days before coming back from his sore shoulder and they also lost OF Leroy Balfour (.312-27-84 last year) for 5 weeks with a jammed shoulder. STUFF-This is starting to get to an uncomfortable place. 11 losses in a row, just 16 runs in those 11 games. It's not one hitter either, it's the group. You can't fire the players..... MINORS NEWS-Check out these Clippers. Ben Beard of West Fargo has the AAA and all time professional record in IBL play at 44 games. TUTTLE RETIRES-He was a 22nd rounder in the IBL's inaugural draft by New Hampshire. A solid rubber armed reliever who had back to back 1.94 and 1.73 ERA seasons in 2013 and '14, and saved 32 games in that 14 season as well. He was the 1st pitcher in IBL history to surpass 1000 games, and he retires the all time leader with 1031. Nice to finally get that W out of the way. MINORS-Chavez (Sunrise Manor) had his 33 game hitting streak end today. INJURY NEWS-HUGE injury news out of Houston. Houston will revert to Cristian Campos as their closer now. Campos has been with the Roughriders since 2024. He came up a starter, and after a 9-15 5.27 '25 season moved into the bullpen. He closed in '27 and '28, saving 37 (2.72 ERA) and 31 (2.50 ERA), making the '27 All Star team. Since being recalled from AA he's hitting .370-1-4. AA OF Pat Joyce hit for the cycle today, he's hitting .356/.411/.545 in 24 games. ROSTER NEWS-Alfredo Sanchez, the utility IF I signed 2 weeks ago is doing well in AAA. Irwin in or out?
While I wasn't ready for this to go public, I can't say I am surprised. He wants to leave, and who wouldn't. I actually am not offended, he's a good player, we stink, he's not playing. That will change. He's moving into the starting lineup, giving Perez a blow (.225/.266/.461) but at the same time I will entertain offers.

April Recap
RJ allows 21 hits, 21 walks in his 47.2 IP. A BABIP of .200 and WHIP of 0.88 and all that to beat his teammate out for POTM. Hall went 5-0 2.42 in 52 IP setting a new April record for K's with 66. RJ tied the old record of 61.
I don't think this is the last time this year Casillas will win both. Oswalt goes 5-1 1.53 and his only loss is to us, the worst team, record wise, in the IBL in April. GM Curt Schilling “Lutz and I have spoken and it was clear this was not working for him. We know we aren't winning it all this year, but we do need players that want to be here, and are young enough to be a part of something special over the next few years, and Sancho is exactly that. He will be added to the 40 man, recalled and be in the lineup tomorrow.” This was a risky deal, any time you give up pitching, especially young pitching, you worry. But I think we have enough depth to handle moving Barnes. Dustin Glenn will be called off his rehab to replace Lutz in the rotation. Ramirez will move into the lineup and play, he can comfortably play all around the IF. Standings Leaders May 16th
Probably not a stretch to say Alaska is likely to destroy every possible team record this year.
Storylines? It appears the Midwest is starting to balance itself out, Chicago no longer with the stranglehold. Michigan? Seriously? Has to be hard to show up there. Lots of good battles in the CL, except for my division which looks like Vegas is going to run away with. Look at the kid, 20 years old and tearing it up in Arizona. Cole Martin having a 1st half for the ages.

2031 May Recap
It feels like Stan Hall and Randy Johnson are making this league their own personal playground. A combined 21-1 with a sub 2 ERA and 250 K's between them.
Nick Curran is aiming for his 4th straight 17+ win season, and he's just 24. Leeds and Romo are part of a bumper crop of young players, led by 20 year old Domingo Casillas. Cole Martin's pace is eliciting talk about Ramon Castro's 205 RBI record. Right now his pace is 208. Look at Alaska, 50-6! And to make matters worse their minor league players are winning awards left and right. The Vasario signing may go down as one of the better FA moves in the IBL. Las Vegas isn't far behind, with 'twice' as many losses. This is as late in the year, in about a decade or more, Chicago has been at .500 or below. First time this year I think, we haven't had the leagues worst record. Every division but ours, and the FL West, appears to have a potential race.

I'd announce the move, but there's something else to announce that will impact what we do next... DAYTON, SAN ANTONIO IN A BLOCKBUSTER 2 days after driving in 8 runs 35 year old Jesus Becerra is headed from 2nd place to last. The 1B was part of an 8 player 2 pick trade between San Antonio and Dayton. The Silver Stars unloaded 2 disgruntled veterans who in recent days had openly lobbied to be dealt from the last place club. Closer Gerald Davenport and IF Kevin Vaughn are heading to the Dragons, along with OF Floyd Banks SP Jorge Martinez and prized OF prospect 19 year old Luis Vasquez, as well as the Silver Stars 5th round draft choice. In return they receive Becerra, Closer Roberto Hidalgo and top IF prospect 22 year old Dave Peterson, as well as Daytons 4th round draft choice this year. “We don't want players here that do not want to be here, or be a part of what we're trying to do. I've seen that blow up too many times” GM Curt Schilling said. “We were able to basically exchange closers, acquire an elite prospect in Dave, and Jesus, who's been a star for many years in this league. He's 35, and he wants to win, and to that end we spoke at length before making this trade, letting him know we will do whatever we can to find him a home with a winning team before the deadline. I hate trading young talent too, but Luis is 19, and in ours scouts eyes he's 4-5 years from being ready to play here, Dave is ready now.” In a flurry of moves post game, Sancho Ramirez was placed on the 13 day DL, Becerra and Hidalgo were added to the roster, as was Peterson. Jose Cruz was recalled from AAA and Dustin Glenn was recalled to replace Martinez in the rotation, ready or not he'll learn on the job. Jake Scott and Randy Kirk are doing well at AAA, Kirk is DH'ing on non-starting days, but both could use more innings there. 21 year old Julio Garcia, a very good SP prospect, was moved from AA to AAA. Peterson will play SS/2B and Becerra will do some DH'ing. 5/29 SAN 11 TUL 3 W-Miller (4-4) L-Caine (2-6) HR SAN-Cruz GS (1) Bullock (15) Sanchez (3) Becerra 2 (13) The 'new' team likes themselves! 2031 SEASON WEEK 10 and another blockbuster!
2031 SEASON WEEK 10
RECORD: 5-2 (back to back 5-2 weeks) OVERALL: 28-35 18.5 GB (Las Vegas 47-17) RUNS SCORED: 269 (47) t-12th (46 runs last week, 2 highest weeks of the year) RUNS AGAINST: 301 (38) t-9th OWNER/FANS: Happy 54/100 (see below) SCHEDULE: 1 @ New Orleans/4 vs Dallas/2 @ Michigan Draft is 2 weeks ago, as of today I have picks 4, 42, 72 and 112 in the first 4 rounds (134 picks) As of today I am thinking about 6'5” righty James Bryant out of the “U” or lefty Javier Valle out of the University of Texas. Both are top of the rotation arms, both 21, but Bryant has an ace body, and is asking 1.5M less. That's if I go pitcher. Position players are CF Turner Harmon out of Georgia Tech, a supreme defender, LHH, outstanding runner who has huge pop. He turned down the Rattlers money at the #6 pick last year. Has good intangibles, only concern is he's already 22. HS SS Pedro Mendoza is interesting. 40+ HR pop and a .400 OBP eye. Concern around his ability to hit for average but extreme tools that project him as a huge defensive player in the middle of the diamond. 18 years old. Scouts say he's a baseball rat. Some other names on the list, Ron Barnett (Dallas Baptist) along with Joe Carpenter (Oregon St) are the drafts hardest throwers both RH starting pitchers. Carpenter is looking for 7.5 Barnett 4.4. Both are outstanding workers, Carpenter played against much better competition. Guys our scouts rate as “blue” power (extreme 40+ HR potential) are Harmon and Mendoza (who with Tim Donaldson, Catcher out of Mt Clemens HS in Michigan have the highest rated power) OF Rob Coates out of VCU and 1B Denny Collins out of Bret Harte HS, Angels Camp, CA. TRADE NEWS-Word out of New Orleans is that the Voodoo are extending an offer for 1B Jesus Becerra. Said to be dangling 25 year old OF Jarne Weijers, a LH hitting corner OF who can play center if needed. He won the GG in LF in 2029, has 104 career SB's and 88 HR's. Word is the Voodoo are asking for a 2nd player as San Antonio is asking for their 2nd round pick in the upcoming draft (51st overall) in the deal. 6/2 SAN 5 NO 2 W-Williams (4-4) L-Lower (4-3) S-Hidalgo (8) HR SAN-Craig (11) Becerra (16) Williams 8 IP 5 H 2 ER 3 BB 2 K's Lower (NO) 7 IP 3 H 5 BB 5 ER Becerra is certainly making this trade thing easier. Becerra had a monster 6 days and I don't doubt for a second it helped get this deal done. We grab another early pick, which is huge, but even better we grab a cornerstone bat, and defender in Weijers. He's arbitration eligible 1 more year before free agency. We have the money to get him signed now, and will make every effort to do that. The work I did in the FA market for minor leaguers is going to pay off as I will add Jeff Buck to the 40 man and recall him (SS) and 1B Bryant Mathews will be called back up. Weijers will move into the leadoff spot, Park down to 2nd with Heeren now hitting 3rd. 6/4 DAL 8 SAN 7 W-Marcilla (1-2) L-Green (4-7) S-Fong (9) HR DAL-Manuel (10) SAN-Weijers (11) Perez (7) Green 4.1 IP 10 H 6 ER Weijers 4-5 HR SB (10) 2 Runs 3 RBI's (33) Heeren 3-5 Bullock 3-5 2 2B's (12) RBI (35) Perez 3 RBI's (21) Manuel (DAL) 4-5 2B (5) HR 3 Runs 3 RBI's (28) Williams (DAL) 4-5 RBI (28) (This is the kid they put on the trading block) 6/5 SAN 8 DAL 6 W-Kijani (2-0) L-Garcia (0-2) S-Hidalgo (9) HR DAL-Woolridge (19) A. 2031 amateur draft
2031 AMATEUR DRAFT
A look back at what will hopefully be a cornerstone draft last year. I had picks 1, 12, 19 in the 1st round, 1 (26th) in the Supplemental, 1 (45th) in the 2nd, 12 (56th) in the 2nd and then I don’t get to pick again until the 1st pick in the 6th, pick 175. These 5 picks have to be big time impact players. Here’s a look at those players today PICK (#) Overall pick 1) 1st Round (1)-Jake Scott RHP-The 5’9” frame was the ONLY physical concern. A triple digit arm and stamina for days. Rough start last year, went 0-4 7.32 in 6 AA starts before being sent back to (A) Allentown where he went 1-3 5.32 in 8 starts. Red flags abound. However, he started in AA this year, went 2-2 2.95 in 6 starts before being called up to AAA, where he is now, and is 2-2 3.97 in 7 starts. Walking too many hitters, but it’s coming. He’s 23, and likely in line for a September call up (Entered the year ranked as the 22nd best prospect) 2) 1st Round (12)-Shane Finnin RHP-6-5 4.02 in 12 Rookie ball starts. 62.2 IP 70 H 59 K’s but 49 walks. Gave up just 4 HR’s. He’s a week away from turning 20, and will start in Columbus again this year. (Entered the year as the #12 prospect) 3) 1st Round (19)-Tony Booth INF-Hit .228/.342/.295 in 64 Rookie league games with a HR and 30 RBI’s, stole 16 bases. Ended the year in Short Season St Louis where, in 8 games he hit .219/.306/.281. Had a good winter and was promoted to Class A Allentown this year. Off to a great start. Hitting .300/.350/.395 in 61 games with 11 2B’s 5 3B’s 11 SB’s and 33 RBI’s. Looking like he’ll play 2B, or SS, or both. Being a switch hitter with no real weak side and top of the lineup speed he’s going to be a good player. 4) Supplemental Round 1st pick (26)-Greg Jones OF-Left handed bomber. The power is coming, at 19 he’s got a ways to go. Hit a combined .253/.358/.367 with 4 HR’s 19 RBI’s in 49 rookie league games last year. Started in Short Season and struggled (.173/.253/.200) but a hole in the Allentown roster and he got a peek in A ball, where he is now. Hitting .250/.331/.377 in 64 games with 17 2B’s 4 HR’s and 28 RBI’s in 64 games. (Entered the year the IBL’s #99 prospect) 5) 2nd Round (45)-Homer Decker RHP-Went 4-3 2.29 in 12 Rookie league starts before being promoted to short season for his final 2. Was 1-1 8.00 in those. Started the season in Class A Plano, and is 6-6 4.52 in 13 starts. Was on the DL with a rib cage pull a few weeks back. He’s 21 and making progress. 6) 2nd Round (56)-Pablo Gonzalez 1B-Struggled mightily in his first pro season. Hit just .198 but did have a .351 IBP, showing the eye we thought he had. Just 3 HR’s in 53 games, which was concerning. He’s 19 though, and will start this year at Short Season St Louis. As of now it’s hard to tell. Clearly there’s potential there, and I think the pitchers are all good enough to at least get a shot. Jones, I think, will come around. I don’t know if Gonzalez is the player we thought he was. With the exception of Scott their all young enough to be impact guys in the next few years if the talent comes around. Here’s my take 2 weeks ago As of today I am thinking about 6'5” righty James Bryant out of the “U” or lefty Javier Valle out of the University of Texas. I’ll follow the 1st round until the top 10 prospects are gone. I have picks 4, 42, 51, 72, 112 in the 1st 4 rounds. 1st ROUND 1) Edmonton Trappers-Javier Valle LHP (21) U. Of Texas 6’1” 190-Power lefty with 4 pitches. Works 91-93 right now with outstanding command. Cannot run on him, hard worker determined to be a HoF players. Asking 8.5 2) Michigan Wolverines-Turner Harmon L/L CF (22) Georgia Tech 6’1” 190-Complete player. Can hit, hit for power, 40+ steal speed and an elite defender across the outfield. A 3-4 hitter who gives it all every single day. Asking 4M 3) Arizona Rattlers-Pedro Mendoza S/R SS (18) Agricultural Science HS, Chicago, IL 6’4” 180-A Cal Ripken type physique. Huge power, .400 OBP discipline. Runs above average for a guy this tall. Switch hits and is a bit stronger from the right side. The OSA’s top overall prospect coming into the draft. Just 18 years old. Asking 3.6M (1) 4) San Antonio Silver Stars-James Bryant RHP (21) U. of Miami 6’5” 225-1 of the 4-5 kids we had initially targeted, and thankfully it was made easy by the other guys being picked 1-3. An upper 90’s horse, very coachable with a great work ethic. He’s a beast physically. Will likely be a 235+ innings guy. Outstanding control, A ball ready at a minimum now. From La Feria, Texas. (6) 5) West Michigan White Caps-Joe Woodward RHP (18) Lutheran HS, Orange, CA 5’9” 165-Big arm on a little body. 91-93 with an outstanding curve ball and a very good split. Stops the running game but lots of physical concerns on our end. Student of the game, outstanding worker. Asking 6.5M (2) 6) Corpus Christi Hooks-Rob Coates L/L OF (21) VCU 5’11” 180-Very good defender, decent runner with monster power. Will likely hit 4 or 5 in the lineup. Turned down big money last year from Michigan (11th overall pick) and it may have paid off. 7) Arizona Rattlers-Tom Donelson R/R C (18) Mt Clemens HS, MI 6’3” 205-A beast of a high school kid. Will become a good catcher, decent runner but his light tower power is his calling card. Huge pop. Arizona grabs two huge bats in the first 7 picks, taking the 1st and 3rd rated prospects. Asking 3M (3) 8) Boston Bombers-Whit Hampton LHP (18) McNeil HS, Austin, TX-With Boston’s track record of pitching and the draft it’s hard to not love this pick. A behemoth, standing 6’5” 210 pds at 18. He works 90-92 with a ++ changup and cutter. Working on a knuckle curve as his 4th pitch. Another HS kid that stops running games. Works as hard as anyone, but has little to no baseball IQ. Asking 7.5 (10) 9) Brooklyn Cyclones-Marcos Zamora R/R INF/OF (20) Vanderbilt 6’2” 185-Off the charts runner who plays 2B, SS, 3B, LF and CF. His arm says 2B or LF, but he’s going to be good to great at any of them. Will leadoff or hit 2nd. Leader. Asking 4.2 (5) 10) Fresno Grizzlies-Joe Carpenter RHP (21) Oregon State 6’1” 195-Top of the draft velocity. Works consistently 97-99. Big change and split. Problem is he’s a smartass who’s apparently not a great teammate. Asking 7M 11) Dayton Dragons-Ron Barnett RHP (20) Dallas Baptist, TX 6’3” 205-With Carpenter the drafts two hardest throwers. RHP with a rare assortment of off speed. Throws a Change, Split and Forkball (you never see them both). Holds runners outstandingly well for a righty. Quiet kid. Asking 4.4 M (8) 12) Michigan Wolverines-Butch Cox R/R SS/3B (20) Otero JC, La Junta, CO 5’10” 165-Michigan gets two bats with its picks. Cox is a big time OBP guy. OSA has him as an above average hitter across the board. Our guys don’t. Runs well. Tools wise he’ll have a chance to be an elite defender, big arm. 2.8M (4) 13) Hawaii Warriors-Tom Tyler L/L 1B/OF (19) Bellarmine Prep, San Jose, CA 6’ 165-Influential clubhouse kid. Big power, above average runner with great instincts. Will hit 3rd or 4th. 2.6 (9) 14) El Paso Diablos-Michael Carlson LHP (22) U. of Texas 6’1” 195-Teammate of top overall pick and member of the 2031 NCAA Champion Longhorns. Mid 90’s arm with ++ Fastball and Cutter. Turned down big money with the Roughriders to re-enter the draft, picked 11 slots higher this year. A horse, 240 IP top of the rotation guy who stifles runners as well. 2.4M 15) Philadelphia Patriots-Rodney Lester RHP(20) Long Beach State 6’2” 190-Last of the top 10 prospects. Seeming steal at this spot. Very much a command guy, good slider, better forkball. Another innings horse. 1.9M (7) Round 2) Jim Gordon R/R OF (18) Chaparral HS, Scottsdale, AZ 6’ 175-Rock solid outfielder who can fly, and projects to be a 3 hole hitter with big power and a good eye, that doesn’t swing and miss much. (SLOT) 2) Bernard Norris R/R OF (18) Denver South HS, Denver CO 5’9” 160-Elite runner with a contact bat who has immense OF tools and will play all 3 spots. (SLOT) Hoping for 2 guys to still be around. Eli Key is a 20 year old OF from LSU, decent bat, HUGE legs and a supreme bunter. Gold Glover with insane work ethic. Two closing prospects. Frank Wentzell (20) and Jose Vargas (21). Vargas was who our scouts were leaning towards with this last pick. Too early to take a pen arm given the bats left imo. Vargas goes 2 picks later to Pittsburgh. Wentzell 3 picks after that to LA. 3) Eli Key R/R OF (20) LSU 6’3” 195-Could start in CF for any IBL team today. Elite defender across the OF, near perfect range and a bear trap for a glove. Arm is average at best. Bat projects to be good, but his weapon is his legs, and his ability to bunt. Our scouts have him as a 17 (out of 20) bunter today. He can fly but is not a great base stealer. Student of the game who puts huge effort into getting better. Scouts were clamoring for Edmond Horne, a guy they love who other teams might not know about or feel the same way about. I am holding out hope he sticks around. He’s a 6’5” 225 pound potential slammer. Hits lefty, plays an all star 1B and is a very good corner outfielder. The Hooks took Horne 2 picks later. Now I am looking at my last pick before I go without for a few rounds. It’s 40 away so my bet is none of the guys I want will be around, but here’s a wish list. Carlton Harris, a HS SS from Houston, Texas. Great wheels, outstanding glove and tools for SS, and decent gap power with great wheels who could bunt a .300 average. Howard Nelson, and 18 year old Catcher with potential for big pop. Work ethic concerns. In this order, Kevin Baldwin, SP (20) Enrique Mota RP (20) Adrian Rojas SP (18) Conan Weston LHP (21). Love it if 2B/OF Ken Wallace was around, but I don’t see that. Nelson went to Fresno with the 11th pick in the 3rd. Mota went to Houston with the 33rd pick in the 3rd 4) Kevin Baldwin RHP (20) UMKC 6’1” 195-Could be a sleeper pick. Righty finesse guy, words that don’t generally go together but he’s a 4 pitch kid with a hall of fame change already. Great build, and a baseball animal. Enormous work ethic. Safe pick with HUGE upside. Durable as hell and an innings hog. We don’t pick again until the 8th round. No hoping anyone’s left, we’ll go with the scouts. ROUND 8) Ray Lawrence R/R IF (22) U. of North Carolina 5’10” 180-Actually a big time steal in our scouts minds. Outstanding 2B already, can play an above average 3B and SS. Won’t walk much, no power, great 2 hole bat and an elite bunter with ++ speed. Follow this kid. 9) Orlando Arevalo RHP (19) Oley Valley HS, PA 10) Dave Craig RHP (23) Oklahoma State 11) Tyler Maxwell OF (18) Salmen HS, LA 12) Millard Hayes IF/OF (21) U. of Mississippi 13) Stan Hanson RHP (21) Pasadena City College 14) Corey Davis 2B (22) Florida State 15) Ivan Ortega LHP (21) Radford College, VA 16) Robby Melton RHP (18) Randolph-Clay HS, GA 17) Joe Gardner SS (18) Assumption HS, IA 18) David Hebert IF (17) Forest Lake HS, MN 19) Pat Greer 1B (19) Hillel HS, FL 20) Ernest Blanton RHP (21) Buffalo College, NY 21) Emory Rawlins LHP (19) Monsignor Donovan HS, NJ 22) Willie White RHP (19) Victory Christian Academy, NM (6’7” draft and follow, asking 2.1M) 23) Bob Adams LHP (19) Windsor Academy, GA (6’5” draft and follow, asking 2.4M) 24) Alfonso Ortiz 1B (22) Puerto Rico-Utuado College 25) Bob Scott SS (18) Trinity HS, NY 26) Tom Edwards C (20) Akron College, OH 27) Jerry Wright LHP (20) Florida International, FL 28) Weldon Smith RHP (18) Sagemont HS, FL (Draft and follow, asking 2.6M) 29) Lennell Smith RHP (18) Cony HS, ME (6’7” Draft and follow, asking 2.4M) 30) Garth Davenport RHP (17) Magic Valley Christian HS, ID (6’7” Draft and follow, asking 2.2M)

2031 SEASON WEEK 12, a trade, a new milestone and a great week

But not before El Paso GM John Gibson rings. He's interested, and I signed Park for just this potential opportunity. The Diablos are 38-35, 2 games up in the Lone Star and Park is a fit. I'm quite surprised, trying not to show it, when he gives me a list of names and on that list are 21 year old CF Jason McKnight and 22 year old fireballer Milovan Opacic. I tell him I'll get back to him. Spend 2 hours on the treadmill, and call him back. He can have Park, as long as he takes the full contract (4.28 this year, 5.28 next and a 5.28 player option). I'm expecting push back, I get none, I say “Well ok, let's see if we can get this done.” Veteran readers my remember Park as the Diablos Supplemental pick in 2020 (35th overall) where ended up spending the 1st 7 seasons of his IBL career. He's won 2 gold gloves, been an all star, led the league in hits twice and won a batting title while in El Paso. I'd hoped when I signed him they'd contend, I knew there'd be interest on a much higher level if they did. Our fans are pissed, understandably (interest dropped to 50), but they will love this move a year from now. The move means Cruz will now remain on the club, as he's certainly hit his way there, Weijers will slide over to center field, not his strongest position but it should work for now. McKnight is sent to Short Season, Opacic will close in AAA. 6/19 SAN 4 BAL 1 W-Williams (5-5) L-Espinoza (3-5) S-Hidalgo (13) HR SAN-Bullock (22) Williams 8 IP 6 H 1 ER Bullock 3-4 2B (15) HR RBI (47) Cruz 3-3 2 2B's (5) RBI (19) 6/20 BAL 4 SAN 3 (10) W-Warner (2-2) L-Valdez (2-1) HR SAN-Heeren (14) Miller 6.2 IP 7 H 2 ER 6 K's (ND) Woodroffe (BAL) 8 IP 12 H 3 ER (ND) Poole (BAL) 3-5 2B (18) Heeren 2-5 HR 2 RBI's (43) Bullock 3-5 (.320-22-47 in 73 games) NEWS-I had been working on this on the side. I signed him when I was in Chicago as a FA out of Puerto Rico. Always loved the arm, thought about pursuing him this winter. He likes it here and losing games late is not good for a clubs psyche. This allows Sanders to ease into the closers role over the next year or two while solidifying our pen, and at a price that makes him a trade piece should it come to that.
