Quick questions thread

I updated the game 2.2.9. I started my saved game and quickly got an error. I hit the back page button on my mouse and the game sort of crashed. It still ran but I lost all menus at the top and couldn't move.
So I decided to delete my game and start over because my download was interrupted the first time and I used wget to finish it. It is possible my file was corrupted.
I unlicensed my game, uninstalled and re-downloaded the 2.2.9 file. Installed and now I can't licence the game. Am I missing something?

Staff with expiring contracts start to approach you for extensions sometime in June via the news screen

We have a few individuals in our online league who are using Mac's. I am not familiar with Mac's at all, what must they be doing to get the game files to load up in they're game, and make the changes they so desire ?

The files are on they're desktops, but they both are having problems getting it to where it needs to go without errors and such.. In the meantime we don't have anyone with PC's having issues as I have already made the changes I wanted and have already uploaded the teamfile to the commish.

Yeah, adding the ability to hire staff for a position other than the one they're currently displayed as is fairly high on the wish-list priorities right now.

The auto-hiring is a legacy from before we added GM-only mode, the owner always wants to immediately fill the position. I'll see if we can switch that to interrupting play until you hire one yourself, so it doesn't grab someone unwanted.

You'll get a message in your mail from them asking to negotiate a new contract when they're about 3 weeks from expiry, responding to that lets you re-sign them. But we probably should make that a little easier by putting an "offer extension" option on their action button/right-click menu.

It sounds like your installations may have been used up. We can get that reset for you so you can reinstall., just send me a PM with your order number.

Tactical Choices in game keep changing back when I start "watching the ice" again. Everything is set to manual in the options screen. What gives? Its annoying to keep changing the tactics back to what I want over and over.

Any help is appreciated.

A few questions I came across today:

1) What does the (TB) stand for after a player's name in the roster/lines screen? It's listed similar to how (C) and (A) are. I'm not Tampa Bay either!

2) Is scouting not working a known issue? Maybe it's something that works in new leagues now? I have mine set to auto, and nothing is happening. I have the latest patch, but the game was created with patch 1.
Actually, I see this working now just before the start of the regular season? Does it take some time to register or?

3) How do I access my shortlist? I can add guys to it, but am not sure where this is.

Thanks Jeff. I went all thru the troubleshooting section and nothing worked. Then I was filling out the support ticket and tried one last time, so I could type exactly what was said when I try and it worked this time. LOL

How does the game (or does the game) handle the pressures for teenagers in the NHL?

Is there a way you can help, or hurt, a prospects development by rushing them to the NHL?

Other than looking at their performance and game rating in pre-season games, is there any way (other than the star rating) to determine if a teenage prospect is "ready" for the NHL?

I'm just beginning my second season running an Expansion Team, and I have my first drafted prospects. I have a winger, drafted fourth overall and a defenseman, drafted in the second round, that, based on their ratings are good enough to play for my NHL team.

Does the game take into an account what is done with these prospects? Is there a risk not sending them back to Junior that their development could be hurt?

Prospect development will generally only be hurt by level of play if it's seriously inappropriate for their current skill level - either not good enough, or too good. If a guy is at 3 stars or below in his current league, you're getting into a risky zone where he's in above his head. Not having good enough competition is a little harder to gauge, since you can't see his star level relative to his current league, but if his numbers are head and shoulders above his teammates, that should be concerning.

That's only a general rule, and the player's hidden mental ratings (particularly coachability) will also play a big role in development. As will playing time - if you're only going to give a prospect 4th-line time, he's probably better off in the minors or junior, where he can play regularly.

Trading Block, the team is looking to trade the player.

Yes, the scouts won't start working at full-speed until the season is underway - I think it's set to the beginning of September.

3) How do I access my shortlist? I can add guys to it, but am not sure where this is.

Via your roster screen - it's on the list of roster tabs just under your top menu, at the far right, beside the trading block screen.

Is there anything set in the Gameplan section? That'll override your changes. If not, it sounds like the game is reverting to the options for the chosen default tactic, which isn't intended and we'll have to see what's going on there. In the meantime, what may work for you is creating your tactics in the Templates editor, then saving them and assigning them on the main tactics screen via Load Template. That should get the AI to stick with what you want.

However, my second rounder, a Czech National named Simon Stransky who played for the Prince Albert Raiders, doesn't have an option to assign him back to Junior.

Assuming this is in 2016-17, yeah, it may be. Everything appears to be set correctly for him in the database, I don't see anything that'd mess up his junior rights. There's nothing in his transaction history about him leaving Prince Albert in his previous season, is there?

Yes, it's the 2016-17 season, the first following his draft. There's nothing in his history about him leaving Prince Albert.

Ultimately I had to go in and edit him to switch him back to Prince Albert, cause not only could I not re-assign him to Junior, but I couldn't "send him down" either (which I shouldn't be able to do, cause of his age)

Strange, my first guess is something's going wrong because of his nationality, or, alternately, there's some oddity that's erasing his WHL rights. We'll take a look at it.

When I went in to edit him, and send him back to Prince Albert, I noticed he still had his Junior Rights assigned to Prince Albert, so it's not that.
