The Orioles have started this 1880 season in far better form than they finished the last. This has put a smile back onto the fans faces. The team picked up 8 wins from the 13 games they played in April. This record has put them in joint first place in the AL table alongside last season's pennant winners the Cleveland Blues.



The batting started the season in good form as they scored 65 runs in April. The player to produce the goods in April was Left Fielder Dan Brouthers. Brouthers started all 13 games and had 50 at bats. He picked up 17 hits from these at bats to produce 6 runs and 10 RBI's for an average of .340. The voters in the AL decided that these figures were good enough to earn the AL Batter of the Month award.

The pitching during the month was a mixed bag as the team changed the starters they were to go with. The best of the pitching came from Rookie starter Stump Wiedman. Wiedman started 7 games and picked up 4 wins from the 61 innings pitched. He gave up 46 hits and 9 earned runs for an ERA of 1.33. The team gave up 48 runs during the month.

The team made some more movements in the player market during April that the fans seemed to like. Firstly they allowed 2 of their rule 5 draft players to return to their originating clubs. He players leaving were Catcher Bill Holbert and Catcher Doc Bushong.

The team then went and acquired some solid pitching in the form of Cy Bentley by claiming him of waivers from Cleveland. They also acquired Short Stop U Quinn from Chicago through the waivers market.

This has left them in joint second place in the NL table alongside the Cincinnati Reds and 3 games behind the leading Chicago White Stockings.



The batting was steady during the month as they picked up 58 runs. The star with the bat was Left Fielder Charley Jones. Jones started all 13 games and made 55 plate appearances. The fans of the Brooklyn Atlantics are steeling themselves for another tough season as they saw their favourites have a below average start to the season. The team went through April with a 5-8 record. This has left the team at the bottom of the NL table 4 games behind the leading White Stockings.



The Atlantics had a tough time with the bat in April, scoring 57 runs. Centre Fielder Hardy Richardson was the batter to make the best use of his tools in April. He started all 13 games to record an average of .315. He managed this with 17 hits from 54 at bats along with 5 runs and 5 RBI's.

The fans of the White Stockings are still on a high after last seasons championship win and their favourite stars seem to be picking up on the good mood to play well. The form of the team has continued to be good as they went 9-4 for April. This has seen them move out to an early 3 game lead in the NL table.



What do you do when you are a rookie starting pitcher who wants to get seen on the mound. You only go and try to out pitch the leagues superstar. That is exactly what Bill McGunnigle tried to do successfully in April. He started 6 games and pitched 58 innings for 5 wins. He gave up 47 hits and 6 earned runs for an ERA of 0.93. These figures saw him pick up both the NL Pitcher of the Month award and also the NL Rookie of the Month award. The pitching staff gave up only 40 runs during the month.

After last seasons near miss the fans are a little disappointed with the way their team has started this year. They are hoping the team can find more than the 6-7 record they picked up in April to push forward again. The team sit joint second in the NL 3 games behind the leading White Stockings.



The Reds batting was up and down during the month on its way to 57 runs. Short Stop Arthur Irwin put up the best performance during the month. He had 50 at bats from his 13 game starts. This saw him hit the ball 15 times to score 6 runs and 7 RBI's for an average of .300

After last season's heroics to win the AL pennant the fans were hoping to see more of the good form this year. After April it seems that they might as the team went 8-5 in April. This has left them joint top of the AL table alongside the Baltimore Orioles.



The batting had a hit and miss month as they scored 56 runs. The best was Catcher Charlie Bennett. Bennett started all 13 games and faced the pitching 56 times for 17 hits. He scored 8 runs and 3 RBI's for an average of .304

The pitching unit took a major blow mid month as Will White went down with injury. He will be missing for 5 months after fracturing his elbow. The best pitcher during the month was replacement starter Lee Richmond. Richmond picked up 3 wins from 4 starts in 7 games played. He pitched 40 innings and gave up 32 hits and 7 earned runs for an ERA of 1.58. The team gave up a total of 51 runs.

The White Stockings continue to put smiles on the faces of their fans as they continue to produce good form during this season. The team won 9 of the 14 games they played in May. This continues to see them in 1st place in the NL but with a slightly reduced lead of 2 games over the Cincinnati Reds.



The batting had a solid month in June to score 80 runs. The best was the Catcher Ned Williamson. Williamson started 14 games and had 56 at bats in those games. He clipped the ball into space 20 times to score 11 runs and 10 RBI's for an average of .357.

The reds found the form that they had through most of last season. This has given the fans hope of the team pushing on to take the NL pennant from the White Stockings. The team picked up 10 wins from the 14 games to move to within 2 games of the top spot in the NL table.



Starting Pitcher Monte Ward had another excellent month in Mya. He started 7 games and picked up 6 wins from the 63 innings he pitched. He gave up 45 hits and 12 earned runs for an ERA of 1.71. This was enough to see him voted the the NL Pitcher of the Month. The team gave up only 51 runs during the month.

The batting went on a spree during the month to collect 80 runs. The best of these was Catcher John Clapp. Clapp started 12 of the 14 games for 55 at bats. He managed to produce 20 hits from these at bats for 12 runs and 6 RBI's. His average was .364 for the month.

Fred Dunlap picked up the NL Rookie of the Month award for his .286 average from 14 starts.

The Blues managed to keep the Blues fans smiling in May as they moved clear at the top of the AL table. The team picked up 9 wins from the 15 games played during the month. They now sit 1 game clear of the Baltimore Orioles at the top of the AL table.



The pitching was a little up and down as the 2 starters had very different months on the mound. While both managed 4 wins their ERA was wildly different. The starter with the better ERA was Jim McCormick. McCormick started 7 games and picked up 4 wins from 60 innings pitched. He gave up 45 hits and 11 earned runs for an ERA of 1.65. This earned him the AL Pitcher of the Month award. The team gave up 58 runs in total.

The batting picked up 64 runs as they did enough to win most of the games played. The batter wiith the best record in May was Second Baseman John Dailey.
