Runners on second and third, one out. Fly out to right fielder, runner tags up, throw to home is wild, lead runner scores and trailing runner goes to third.

The game scored it this way: fly out on the batter, error on the right fielder, unearned run.

In reality this would be scored as follows: sacrifice fly for the batter, error on the right fielder, earned run.

Plays where a runner tries to score from third are considered a difficult play and an outfielder will never be penalized for failing to throw someone out at home, even if he airmails the throw. Here the error is appropriate because it allowed the other runner to advance a base. However, if the runner on third was the only man on, there could never be an error on such a play. Similarly, that runner scoring from third will be an earned run (and the batter will be credited with a sacrifice fly) regardless of what happens with the throw from the outfield.

I've said this for several versions of OOTP now, and I'll say it again: there needs to be someone on the beta team who is an expert on scoring games. These sorts of errors are all too common in the game, and they have been for a long, long time. I may keep mentioning some of them from time to time, but trust me - for every one of these I mention, I notice and don't mention maybe 50 of them.

Free agents leaving league illegally"

Hello all.
I have a world where there are 5 leagues; 4 belong to an association, 1 does not.
All 5 allow free agency, but the 1 has both of the following boxes unchecked:
"Allow Free Agents from Other Leagues"
"Allow Free Agents to Leave League"
while the other 4 share their free agents.
And yet, I still find free agents from the 1 league signing with teams in the other 4 leagues.

Along the same lines: runner on first steals second, throw into outfield runner advances to third. Next batter hits a 2 run home run, pitcher is, incorrectly, only charged with 1 earned run.

Dominican Republic - $80,000 vs $800,000

When setting International Scouting budgets, I selected Dominican Republic, but it only added $80,000 to my scouting budget. I checked all of the other $800,000 countries and they worked fine - just the Dominican seems to have a problem.

Season is gone

I've just clicked "Continue Game" which should have loaded my season - but the Managers Home screen came up and said I was at the top of the league with 2 wins and 0 losses...

I'm 100% certain I had played many, many more games than that. In the region of 17 16 or something similar.

I noticed when the game started it seemed to update - has an update been released that's reset my season? Even if it had - why in gods name would it set me to 2 wins and 0 losses??

I suppose I could be wrong - but I was sure I was up at the start of the draft - and the reason I think that is because I decided to stop and read about the draft as I know nothing about it.

Having said all that, I also have it installed on my laptop and it updated and ran fine, loading my NYY game with 7 and 8...so I don't know - but I was sure I had taken my LAA much, much farther than 2 and 0!

Reported this with last version and it's still a bug now. Whenever viewing any screen other than the player's stats screen, the players career WAR is not showing up correctly. The last season's WAR is showing.

Was in the middle of my draft and saw a player whose HS stats were 17 games. In those 17 games he had 2 wins, 1 loss and 16 saves. That isn't possible.

Exclamation Clerical accuracy in financials screen

Several totals in my financials screen don't foot/sum correctly. Specifically, the starting balance - cash (upper right section of the screen) doesn't sum correctly, and I have no idea why. Also, both the expenses subtotal in the lower right section of the screen and the projected budget room in the upper middle section of the screen appear to double count draft expenses. I have a screen shot, but it's in a document too large to attach here, so I can e-mail to anyone interested in taking a look. As an example of the footing problem, my expenses to date are as follows:

11,654,774 Player Expenses
..4,034,428 Staff Espenses
12,000,000 Scouting Expenses
13,540,000 Draft Expenses
12,000,000 Player Development Exp.
66,769,202 Expenses Subtotal

This doesn't add up, by the exact amount of the draft expenses. Same problem with the projected budget room (as I suspect it's pulling this expenses subtotal value). For reference, I'm playing version 13.3 Build 9 (Windows).

My Offseason central has turned into a page that everything south of the top bar is unclickable. I can get off the page and sign free agents on the regular free agent page, but cannot use the offseason center page to look at players bios or sign players at all.

Rehab while still on the DL

Seems to me that players fully recovered and able to play, yet still with time remaining on their DL designation, should be able to begin their Minor League rehab immediately, not have to wait for their DL time to end?

Certainly works this way IRL.

Draft pool too young

I realize this is not a bug but i posted this question on the forum and had about 55 views and not 1 reply.

i just looked at my 1st season draft and noticed that 95% of the players were 17 yrs old. i set it up (i thought) so that players coming into the league would be 17-23 and thought there might be somewhat of a equal distribution- there was not.

How do i setupthe league so that players will come into the draft at older ages w/o eliminating the 17 yr old players.

Sorry if this has already been discussed.
I like to sim a week at a time. Very often in the middle of the sim it freezes and I get the 'not responding' message. I do not have to shut the program down but this will last sometimes several minutes before the sim continues. Anything I can do to fix this?

There really isn't anything to "fix". The game isn't really "freezing". It's just going thru the other processes it needs to do other than simming the actual games.

Sounds like you have all the minor leagues turned on. That's just a lot of games to sim during the season. I would suspect you will see it run much faster in September and October when the minor leagues are done playing.

Are you trying to click on something while it's simming, thinking that it's done, but it really isn't yet?

Thanks for the reply. It's not the end of the world. Just wanted to make sure it was normal and not a problem. I do have all the minors turned on and your explanation makes sense.
Thanks.

Another scoring bug:

Single, single, passed ball, so there are runners on second and third. The next hitter singles, scoring both runners.

The way this would actually be scored in MLB: one earned run for certain (the guy on third who would have scored from second), possibly more depending on how the rest of the inning played out.

The way OOTP scored it: no earned runs, since the players advanced at least one base due to an error/passed ball. I know from experience that it would be the same if they'd scored on a home run, which is completely silly.

When I brought up the fact that earned runs are not calculated at the moment the runs score in MLB (with OOTP 11 or 12 - I can't remember), I was told "it's too difficult" to fix. I'm not happy with that answer, but I assume it's still operative now. Thus, here's my temporary stopgap solution:

The game needs to at least get the scoring right at the moment the runs cross the plate. Right now, it's not even doing that, or one of those two runs would have been earned.

Thanks.

You could try turning some things off, like the saving of boxscores for minor leagues. Or turning down the stat keeping of the minor leagues.

One out, runner on third. Ground ball to the middle infield, runner heading home, throw is to first, throw goes wild.

In reality, while there is some discretion here for the official scorer, no scorer would give an unearned run when the throw wasn't even trying to get the runner at home. The scorer's job is to try to recreate what would have happened without the error and designate the run accordingly. Here the run would certainly have scored either way, so it should be an earned run.

OOTP scores this as an unearned run, as it does in all cases when a runner was on base or at bat when an error or passed ball occurs.

When showing ballparks in Google Earth, an ampersand in the park name causes Google Earth to throw the following error message:

Quote:
Open of file "blah\blah\blah\Park Name & Field.kml failed: Parse error at line 1, column 130:

not well-formed (invalid token)
Manually changing the ampersand to the word "and" works, but it'd be nice if that just happened automagically.
