Playing out the games rather than simming keeps the AI from making some poor decisions... I do all of the substitutions and pitching changes... and sometimes I make poor decisions... I can feel the AI grinning and perhaps saying, "I told you so".

I really hate how Clayton Kershaw took a perfect game into the 7th inning earlier this season and they took him out after only 80 pitches. Seems like pitchers these days are overly protected, yet they get injured frequently, regardless of the stringent pitch count limits. Last edited by jg2977; 05-19-2022 at 02:45 PM. |

MY LIFE IN !958
EC's Hopin' It's Great in '58 It's time to cover all of the major sports in the year 1958... so away we go with the National Basketball Association. EC's favorite basketball players of all-time are Bob Pettit and Jerry West... Petit had a great season in 1958 leading the St. Louis Hawks to the NBA title... sadly he played in the shadow of the greatest team ever - the Boston Celtics - and only won one championship... and to be totally honest, that was tainted... the greatest basketball player that ever lived was Bill Russell... he hurt his ankle in the second game of the series... we don't know for sure, but if he is healthy, the Celtics would probably have won... Russell missed 2 games in the series... Jerry West also played in the shadow of the Boston Celtics, too, during his era... darn those Celts!... yep, darn those Celts. However, this year the Hawks prevailed in 6 games, winning 4 games to 2. When St. Louis and Boston split the first two games in Boston, it seemed another classic series was in the offing... but Bill Russell’s sprained ankle in Game 3 turned the series in the Hawks’ favor... Boston showed gritty determination, tying the series with a win in Game 4 without Russell... but St. Louis won Game 5 in Boston by two points and Hawks forward Bob Pettit exploded for 50 points in Game 6 to give St. Louis its only league title. Monday, May 5, 1958 MERAUX ON TOP IN SUPREME LEAGUE, ONLY UNBEATEN TEAM; JACKSON JOLTS ANDERSON OUT OF 1ST PLACE The Meraux Tigers rocked and rolled the their 5th successive win and to the top of the South Island Secondary League... the Tigers gained first place when the Jackson Jackalopes jolted Anderson out of the ranks of the unbeaten... Meraux slammed St. Pete 8-5, while the Anderson Ravens were being upended 4-0 by Jackson... the Bar Harbor Acadians are running second in the league... they drubbed the Moon Valley Dreamers 8-2 this past weekend... the Kofa Kings had a good game in edging the Delta Stars 2-1 in a pairing of two of the better teams... Mystic doubled the score on St. Luke's Place 10-5... and St. Dominic skimmed by the Zebulon Zips 4-3. South Island Supreme League Stars of the Week |

MY LIFE IN 1958
EC's Life Still Not Great in '58 EC's real life was mundane and going nowhere, but my fantasy life was going great in '58... in the world of sports was The Greatest Game Ever Played -- the 1958 NFL Championship Game... the Baltimore Colts and Johnny Unitas whipped the New York Giants and Charley Conerly 23-17 in overtime before 64,000 at Yankee Stadium. The Giants had to defeat Cleveland twice to make the title game... they won 13-10 in the final game of the season to tie the Browns for first place in the Eastern Conference... then whipped them 10-0 in the playoff game for the conference crown. Jim Brown of the Cleveland Browns, in EC's opinion, the greatest running back in NFL history, was the league's Most Valuable Player, Weeb Eubank of the Baltimore Colts was the Coach of the Year and receiver Jimmy Orr of Pittsburgh copped the Rookie of the Year Award. EC's favorite NFL team was still the Los Angeles Rams under the finest offensive mind ever -- Sid Gillman... but the Rams couldn't beat Y.A. Tittle and the San Francisco 49'ers... they lost twice 23-3 and 27-7... the Rams finished 8-4... they split with Baltimore, dropping the first game 34-7, but winning the last one 30-28... there was lot of parity in the NFL at the time. Monday, May 5, 1958 UNBEATEN YANKS NAB 5TH STRAIGHT IN SECONDARY LEAGUE... STOUTS AND CUBS NIPPING AT THEIR HEELS, 1 GAME BEHIND The unbeaten New Yerby Yankees rang up their 5th straight victory, but the Cherrywood Stouts and Delacroix Cubs kept a close one-game behind in the runner-up spot... the Yanks downed Columbia 7-1... the Stouts trimmed the Parkland Perfectos 7-2... and the Cubs trimmed the Pelham Oaks 3-0... in other league action Gull Lake slammed the Billings Rams 10-6... Littleton took care of the Grin Hill Smileys 5-1 and in a battle of winless teams, Guedon triumphed over the Braxton Bruins 3-2. Secondary League Stars of the Week |

MY LIFE IN 1958
EC's Hopin' It's Great in '58 And now for all you hockey fans, here's a quick review of the 1957-58 National Hockey League... this season saw the Montreal Canadiens regain first place overall, while the previous season's leader, the Detroit Red Wings, slipped to third... it was the Canadiens' third straight Stanley Cup title... Montreal's Maurice "Rocket" Richard became the first NHL player to score 500 career goals, Jacques Plante won his third straight Vezina Trophy and Doug Harvey his fourth straight Norris Trophy. This season also saw the first player of African descent play in the league. Willie O'Ree suited up with the Boston Bruins on January 18, 1958, in a game against the Canadiens in Montreal.
