Bracket F - Round Two - Day Two
#1-Jim Thome vs. #8-Joey Votto
Out of all the number one seeds remaining coming in to round two I thought Jim Thome was in the most danger of being eliminated. However, he'll survive while other #1's have fallen after defeating Joey Votto 20-16. #5-Duke Snider vs. #4-Lou Gehrig Duke Snider hits 31 home runs to end Lou Gehrig's tournament run by a score of 31-17. While I have nothing against Snider, I'm sad to see Gehrig eliminated already. |

Bracket C and F
#1 Babe Ruth vs. #5 Johnny Mize - Ruth is going to have to cool off one of these rounds, but I don't think he'll cool off enough for Mize to win. #3 Willie Mays vs #2 Frank Robinson - this should be another great match-up. Last round Mays hit just one more than Robinson. I think Mays will be the one advancing. #1 Jim Thome vs. #5 Duke Snider - Snider hit 4 more home runs in the second round than in the first. Either would have been 7 or more than Thome's highest total. Snider appears to be heating up at the right time, and I'm thinking he could go far, or run into another player heating up next round, Jimmie Foxx #6 Jeff Bagwell vs. #2 Jimmie Foxx - just two players hit more home runs last round than Foxx. I'd be surprised if Bagwell could keep up. |

Round 2 is in the books
We're now down to just the final 32 players as the tournament becomes a little bit more manageable.
5 of the #1 seeds remain including (Barry Bonds, Mike Schmidt, Albert Pujols, Babe Ruth, and Jim Thome). There are also 5 number 2 seeds and 5 number 5 seeds remaining as well. While there are 4 number 3 seeds left, only one 4 seed is left (Willie Stargell). There's still plenty of hope for the underdog though, with 16th seeded Gorman Thomas the ultimate underdog (by seed at last). Ralph Kiner and Willie Horton represent the two remaining 14 seeds. I've been pleased with the results so far, not all of the results, but that's mostly because some of my favorites have bit the dust. The plan right now is to narrow down from 32-16 over the next two days, and begin with the Sweet 16 on Thursday after an off day Wednesday. |

I've been following this for awhile. You're doing a great job, NYY.
Not sure who's going to win, but for right now I'm going to root for Gorman Thomas. I always liked underdogs.

I agree on the underdogs, so I'll be curious how long Thomas can keep this up.

Man, I am really doing terrible at these predictions! I'm sure most of the people I have in the Round of 32 are long gone. I barely have anyone in this tournament left to root for. I was pulling for McGwire, honestly.

Well, if it makes you feel any better some other people aren't going to be happy after this round because a couple more big names will be falling.

Bracket D - Round Three
#8-Yogi Berra vs. #5-Carl Yastrzemski
The match-up between Yogi and Yaz turned out to be a much lower scoring game than I expected. Berra squeaks by into the next round by a score of 16-13 after another big upset by Yogi. #2-Ken Griffey, Jr. vs. #3-Larry Walker Another match-up that was much lower than expected, but Ken Griffey, Jr. narrowly escapes to move to the Sweet 16, knocking off Larry Walker 15-14. |

Bracket A - Round Three
#1-Barry Bonds vs. #5-Harmon Killebrew
This was much closer than I thought it would be, as Barry Bonds had a bad round, but unfortunately Harmon Killebrew wasn't able to take advantage, narrowly losing 26-24. #7 -Ron Santo vs. #14-Ralph Kiner Ralph Kiner continues his run through the tournament, knocking off Ron Santo 22-20 to set-up a match-up against Barry Bonds. |

Bracket H - Round Three
#1-Mike Schmidt vs. #12-Sadaharu Oh
Mike Schmidt advances to the sweet 16 after defeating the Japanese home run king Sadaharu Oh 23-19. #3-Mickey Mantle vs. #2-Hank Aaron Mickey Mantle comes out on top, knocking off Hank Aaron by a score of 26-23 to advance to the Sweet 16. ----------------- Sorry Hankyu Braves, looks like we'll miss out on the Oh vs. Aaron match-up which would have been a lot of fun. |

Man, I was hoping Killebrew might take out Bonds. Three more homers, and he would have had him...

![]() I'll never forgive myself. I knew I should never have mentionned it. Come to think of it... Some good might come out of it. Let's see.... It would be nice if Bonds won the all thing. That should do the trick.

Just caught up reading, some pretty big upsets in Round 2. I am out as Yogi beat my prediction Yaz to start round 3. So now I will have to route for my all-time fav Winfield to win it all... I think I will also root for Gorman Thomas can't go wrong rooting for a #16 seed.

Looks like I am the only one to have been elminated so far. But round 4 will be bringing us a Schmidt vs Aaron match-up so one more may fall...

Babe Ruth continues to run through the tournament unscathed, this time defeating Johnny Mize 34-18. #3-Willie Mays vs. #2-Frank Robinson Willie Mays had a disappointing round of 19, but it was enough to knock off Frank Robinson who only scored 18. |

Bracket F - Round Three
#1-Jim Thome vs.#4-Duke Snider
Jim Thome had his best round yet by hitting 25 home runs. Unfortunately for Thome it wasn't enough, as Duke Snider hit 27 to advance. #6-Jeff Bagwell vs. #2-Jimmie Foxx Jimmie Foxx proved to be too much as he hits 26 home runs to defeat Jeff Bagwell 26-16. |
