Could someone give an explanation on how to use these star ratings on the unit tactics tab? Is this explained in an older FHM manual or somewhere else on the site?

It's only a quick reference of the attributes of a specific line (combined), there's no direct relation between it and the tactics. Maybe it helps in setting some sliders for the tactical tendencies, i.e. high offence low defense, you would set the attacking towards intense. High toughness could have you set aggressiveness and hitting towards intense/often). The tactical settings are more dependent of a specific position within the line.

Do you mean RFAs will never want to restart negotiations until the next July 1st, and that the behavior is different for an upcoming UFA where negotiations for a contract renewal failed ? In the case of RFAs, they also annoyingly sign with lower league teams for so much less money than you offered that made them upset, because it wasn't enough money, which is contradictory. If they sign with the KHL, that player is also not available for a number of years ...

But also be sure to tick that box in the upper-right if you want to set the sliders and tactics for this specific line vs. your global tactics. For the sliders, they each individually have a box to tick. For the tactics below the star-ratings, I decide which one to use in part by the players I have on the line and these star ratings. If I am a five star in skill line, then I may have some particular tactics that work for my line that may not for a two-star skill line.

One of the strengths of OOTP is the way that ALL the major events in the calendar are defined, they are events that stop the game continuing and they are news items. Now maybe I'm missing something but that doesn't seem the case with FHM. For example I've just completed my first season and had no idea that I was coming up to free agency (hey, i'm new to hockey) so I didn't get qualifying offers in for the guys that qualified. So, have I missed a setting somewhere that would have helped me through this?

Photos overwritten by Facegen
I am playing a standard league and have all the NHL players with cutout mugshot photos, and everyone else has a facegen generated photo. I have noticed when playing games - for the away team, they don’t have photos, but are overwritten by facegens in away uniforms (home teams still have photos). Once the game is done, the main picture of any player that has shown up in an away facegen uniform ends up overwriting the photo on the roster page with a new facegen one.
Is there any way to stop this from occurring? If I went to a single jersey instead of home/away would that solve the problem? It’s just a pain to have to manually reset photos after each game. Thanks |

2) Renew contract, then it will say in the text what the minimum offer has to be for you to ''qualify'' the player, so that you maintain the player's rights. The current problem and one of my biggest complaint right now is that these RFA, after being qualified, may end up signing elsewhere in some minor leagues if you anger them during negotiation by not offering them the money they want. They then sign elsewhere for a fraction of what you offered, which makes no sense. If they sign with the KHL, you just lost that player for whatever number of years (length of their KHL contract). So even if you qualify them, you need to hurry to get them signed after July 1st, if it's a key player and part of your main roster. Last edited by KevT90; 06-17-2020 at 09:50 PM. |

More questions.
So I'm Vegas. I've just traded for Connor Hellebuyck. So now have him and Fleury. They both have roles of 'starting goalie'. Will this matter, will I need to change one (Fleury) and will this annoy him? Also. I won the draft lottery, so you'll be surprised to hear that I picked Lafreniere. Anyway, he's rated 2.5 stars already, should I be putting straight into the NHL or give him a year in the AHL? He's equally rated with my 2nd best C, so I figure he's good to go already? |

If you roughly balance the goalies' starts, they'll be OK. There is a morale penalty if they have the starting goalie role and aren't starting regularly, but it shouldn't be noticeable unless one of them is only starting a small fraction of the time. The bigger problem from a strategic point of view is their cap hits - for each of them, you're spending the same amount as a first-line skater who'd be playing every game, but you can only use one goalie at a time. |

Is two top tier goalies not common in NHL? Although maybe you could argue Fleury isn't quite top tier? I have some suggestions for future releases, is there a place to put those, or just in here? Great game by the way! |

Another question
Game Rating - whats a good number, whats a bad number, how should I use this to assess players in a game but also over a season? |

The scale is 1 to 100 for Game Rating. 100 being best. Game Rating should be used quite a bit to know if you Players are fitting your system well enough.

Offensive/Defensive GR will be a bit more extreme in both directions, but hopefully no more than about 5-10 points (for the average) at each end. (That's copied-and-pasted from some old notes; I think the numbers may have moved slightly since then; the colour-coding on the roster screen is a little more up-to-date.) |

Major Roles/ Tacticl Roles/ Player Templates
Hello, I am completely new to the franchise hockey manager game series.
I have spent the last few days looking around in commissioner mode (July 1st) to understand the game a bit. I have read the manual and made some small adjustments to the database. I have noticed that many players have major roles, player templates and the tactical roles (with high ratings)they do not match. I have not changed this. Now i ask myself these questions: how important is it that the major roles and the player templates match? how important is it that the major roles and the tactical roles match? How important is it that the player templates and tactical roles match? Especially regarding the development and the game ratings. I have another question can I adjust the team budgets of the german league and german league 2 to the right budgets or do I have a problem one year later that you have less money because of the ticket prices and the size of the stadiums? And I have another question. how many u13 and u14 league´s are there in germany and how many players are generated each year by the system. I am from Germany and hope my english is understandable. Thanks for helping! Last edited by evildad61; 06-19-2020 at 05:57 AM. |
