And with that the first half of round two is complete, and definitely easier to update with fewer players. The second half of the round is coming up tomorrow.
The linked brackets are now up to date. |

Bracket A - Round Two - Day Two
#11-Chuck Klein vs. #14-Ralph Kiner
Ralph Kiner may have come from the play-in round, but he's proving that he could be a force to be reckoned with after winning 26-13 to knock Chuck Klein from the competition. #7-Ron Santo vs. #2-Jim Edmonds Jim Edmonds becomes the first number 2 seed to fall in the tournament after Ron Santo knocks him off by a score of 26-21. |

Bracket H - Round Two - Day Two
#11 -Charlie High vs. #3-Mickey Mantle
This one was much closer than I expected, as Charlie High increased his total from 16 in round one to 25 in round two, and Mickey Mantle saw his totals fall from 31 to 26. However, that was enough for Mickey Mantle to advance to the next round. #10-Hank Greenberg vs. #2-Hank Aaron Aaron wins the battle of the Hanks to knock off Hank Greenberg by a score of 26-22. I'm honestly pretty surprised that Hank Aaron is doing well, because he always seems to struggle whatever universe I create, and struggled during testing. Pleasantly surprised though, and it sets up a battle between Mickey Mantle and Hank Aaron in the next round to see who moves into the sweet sixteen. |

Brackets A and H
With brackets A and H complete let's take a look at the match-ups for the next round.
#1 Barry Bonds vs. #5 Harmon Killebrew - Bonds is going to be tough to defeat, but if his numbers dip slightly and Killebrew reverts to his round one form this could be a close one. #14 Ralph Kiner vs # 7 Ron Santo - each hit 26 last round, and I'm expecting this to be close as well. We'll have to see if Ralph Kiner's Cinderella run continues. #1 Mike Schmidt vs #12 Sadaharu Oh - Oh's put up a bigger number in round one than either of Schmidt's rounds, but is Oh's last round a sign of fatigue? Schmidt was my pick to win it all, and with totals of 26 and 27 he's not been bad, but I think he'll need to have some bigger numbers if he's going to win it all #3 Mickey Mantle vs #2 Hank Aaron - I don't even know who to root for with this one. One off the first baseball books I ever read was a Mickey Mantle biography. I went to Oklahoma City a couple years ago and it was great to see his name everywhere. I can't root against Hank Aaron though, and I'm thrilled he's finally having success for me. It sucks they are matched up this early, but this would be one matchup I'd pay money to see. |

Larry Walker moves into the round of 32 after defeating Ted Kluszewski 23-15. #7-Derrek Lee vs. #2-Ken Griffey, Jr. Ken Griffey, Jr. saw a decrease in his totals in the second round, but still comfortably advances to the next round, defeating Derrek Lee 22-13. |

Bracket E - Round Two - Day Two
#6-Prince Fielder vs. #3-Frank Thomas
Frank Thomas moves on after knocking off Prince Fielder 19-14, ending the chances for a Fielder family victory. #10-Willie Aikens vs. #2-Willie McCovey We've already had a battle of Hank's in round two, and now we've got a battle of Willie's. McCovey had a disappointing total of 16 with Aikens hitting 20 in the upset. |

Brackets D and E
#8 Yogi Berra vs. #5 Carl Yastrzemski - Yogi's already knocked off one of the Red Sox legends, can Yaz be the second? I don't think so - I think their first round totals are a more accurate prediction - Yaz 33 Yogi 22 #3 Larry Walker vs. #2 Ken Griffey Jr. - In reality I'm indifferent to Larry Walker, but he's one player who seems to have success time and time again since I've started doing this. I have to pull for Griffey though, but it should be close - their second round totals were just one apart. #9 Eric Davis vs. #12 Ken Phelps - just from my memory of watching them play I'd expect to see Eric Davis in a blowout. However, Phelps has put up better numbers in both rounds. #3 Frank Thomas vs. #10 Willie Aikens - even though I know the difference whenever I see Willie Aikens I think Willie Wilson - so no power and lots of speed. Aikens has hit a combined total of four more home runs in both rounds though, but I think Thomas has the potential to beat him. |

Hehe yeah around the same time I got to see Randy "Big Unit" Johnson Terrorize Minor league hitters...I not only saw him throw one through the back stop fencing (about 30 feet behing home) but saw one of his pitches hit the announcers booth above the grandstand....He was one BIG SCARY pitcher in the Minors. thank goodness he finally learned he diddn't have to throw every pitch 105mph to get people out, Those were some great times we had season tickets from 1983 to about 1996

Bracket B - Round Two - Day Two
#1-Albert Pujols vs. #8-Frank Howard
It wasn't pretty, but Albert Pujols moves on after defeating Frank Howard 17-14. #5-Carlos Delgado vs. #4-Ryan Howard After round one Ryan Howard looked like he was capable of winning it all after hitting 38 home runs, but his round two total was just over half that number. Carlos Delgado took advantage of that and defeated Howard 24-20 to advance to the next round. |

Brackets B and G
#1 Albert Pujols vs. #5 Carlos Delgado - Pujols brings back fond memories of the first time I did the home run dynasty and his other-worldly career - http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...9-post303.html After a bad second round though I don't know what to expect. Delgado has had the advantage so far. #14 Willie Horton vs #2 David Ortiz - I think Ortiz will be tough to beat for Horton and his run will come to an end. #16 Gorman Thomas vs #4 Willie Stargell - similar to Ortiz, I think Stargell is just to good to lose to Thomas #11 Kevin Mitchell vs #7 Dave Winfield - I want Winfield to win, but I think Mitchell will end up advancing |

Bracket C - Round Two - Day Two
#1-Babe Ruth vs. #8-Darrell Evans
Babe Ruth has another big round, becoming the only player to put up 40 or more home runs in two straight rounds. Barry Bonds is the only other player to hit 40 or more home runs. It just takes one bad round though, but for now the Bambino safely advances to the next round 43-20, eliminating Darrell Evans. #5-Johnny Mize vs. #4-Mel Ott This was another very close matchup between the 5 and 4 seed for the opportunity to take on Babe Ruth. With just one home run separating the two, Johnny Mize knocks off Mel Ott 25-24. |
