You and I both on this as well. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. One of those guys at least is bound to be a star, and it may not even be Hughes. Or it may be in addition to Hughes. Cashman, do not panic!

Hehe, I hear you. It should be a good game with a great pitching matchup. Pettite always gives us trouble, but if Schilling is on, then I like our chances.

With Moose, Pettitte, Wang and Clemens also in the rotation, I don't see how trading away anything for a starter would be a good move. Now, if they could have gotten Santana in that deal, I wouldn't be crying But, I don't want to see them deal kiddies for a veteran pitcher. As for the Giambi deal, I don't know whether I like it or not. I've always liked Figgins, but I have no idea where they would play him and he's been in an awful slump this year.
That's a fair point, if you are willing to throw the season away, but I know Yankee management is not at that point yet. My point is you can never have enough pitching and even though they seem to have plenty of good young arms, I don't think a majority of Yankee fans would agree that clippard, Desalvo, Hughes, and Karstens can bring you guys a ring THIS year.

I'd like Clippard if he were on another team, but, fwiw, scouts really don't like him. Probably for good reason: he doesn't throw hard, is right handed, isn't a ground ball machine, has ugly mechanics, and relies on guile. His minor league numbers have been fantastic, though, and I tend to think he'll be at least an average ML starter (i.e., have an ERA+ of >95). I don't see anything in DeSalvo/Rasner/Karstans that makes me think they'll be more than #5 starters (ie., ERA+ of ~85-90).

Agreed. But they may be doing so in the near future! That's why this is interesting to watch. Years ago in this situation, even after Cashman got the job, the pressure would be on to trade youngsters NOW for a pitcher past his prime who would come in and do a mediocre job while taking down his millions.

Recently, however, Cashman seems to have the authority and the security (I hope) to resist the stupid media and fans running hysterically in the streets because the Yankees are temporarily under .500. Yes, he's bringing in Clemens for a measly few $$$. That's fine, I don't care how he spends Steinbrenner's money as long as: 1) It does not cost the Yankees any young talent, which the Clemens deal did not, and 2) It does not take the focus of the team away from developing young talent, which Clemens spending part of one season with us will not.

With the 4 vets manning the rotation, only 1 of them needs to be on to bring us a ring this year with the others providing spot starts when a vet goes down or needs a rest.

I don't think the season is totally lost yet. However, I don't think we need a panic deal (like the Yankees of the 80s) that'll hamstring our future to try to "rescue" our present.

Joe, we gotta watch these guys, silvam, Luis, redsoxford, and maybe Josh. All confirmed or suspected Red Sox fans.

I hope Cashman is listening to us true Yankee fans when he reads this thread. We are giving him the good advice.

Actually, the rivalry between Yankees and Red Sox is a great one, and I enjoy talking to you guys. At least you don't drop a "Yankees suck" stupidity in the thread and leave like some other folks do.

This is a great place for "sane" baseball discussion. You ever read the morons at the ESPN boards? I don't know where some of them come up with their information.

Apparently, the whole A-ROD elbow to Pedroia thing is taking on a life of its own, but as usual, its because the media is blowing it out of proportion.

Yeah, I would have A-Rod wear extra padding tonight, only because the story now is in the media and "retaliation" is now mandatory as a result.

I'm sure if you've got a boiled sweet in your mouth and you're a Yankee then you've got to suck (or risk a high dental bill!)

On the forums for my local football team, if anyone from another team (especially if they're from Swindon, High Wycombe or Reading) then it just becomes an abuse fest.

BOS 0 2 1 0 0 0 4 0 1 8 14 1
NYY 1 0 3 0 0 1 1 0 0 6 8 2

WP : Pineiro, LP : Myers, SV : Papelbon
HR : Youkilis, Jeter, Posada

Schilling will go for 5.1 and Pettite will manage 6.0.

There we go for my completely wrong prediction for tonight. And if it comes out true, I'm going to curse not going to the bookies.

Actually most Yankees, like ballplayers everywhere I guess, are constantly spitting, not sucking. Why that is I don't know, but check it out next time you see a ballgame telecast. How would you like to be the dugout attendant having to clean up after that mess?

OK, fine. Just to prevent any possible shenanigans, however, I took the liberty of recording your last edit information for that post:

I'm currently trying to quit dipping and chew. I've tried 4 friggin times over the last year or two. I watch baseball just about every night and seeing players with a mouth full of it isn't helping the situation.

Addiction is a funny thing... In the last week since I had my last lip, it catches my eye a lot more and I've noticed certain things:
-David Ortiz is a big fan of Apple Skoal (I've seen him holding the light green tin in his hand several times)
-Manny seems to alternate between chew and dip

Classic ... one win by the Yankees and this guy has them tied by August 1st ... Maybe he should have waited to see if the Yankees swept the series or even won the series.

As a lifelong Sox fan it wouldn't surprise me if it's tied by August 1st .. but try to be above .500 before talking crap ... by the way scoreboard

Best of luck to you LR!!

silvam, this forum has cleaned up quite a bit. A couple of years ago, you couldn't go into any topic about the Yankees without some immature crap (Spankmes, Yankees suck etc). I really enjoy bantering with the Sox fans that have been showing up lately.

Would rather let the 25 on the rosters deal with the rivalry whilst we pontificate on it.

And it's always good to have a competitive division for four of the places
