But here is something of progress reports. Markus cleaned up the .dat files for us the other night as we had some serious crashing issues. Now I am only getting one CTD with the file, and hopefully Markus can fix that for me. Next thing I need to figure out is the fact that I need to have the rosters full for the rookie and short season leagues as the draft will not give us enough players to fill 3 teams for each franchise. Now I am looking at filling in as quickly as I can with players that weren't in the draft but I may have to just put it with fictional players in rookie and SS for now and then update later with it corrected. The salaries are being worked on so that teams will have correct salaries for all of their 40 man roster players. In case people are wondering Clemens does continue to sign with Houston in every sim I have run. I know that Cubby was working on updating the minor league stadiums and was cleaning up some of the AAA players that were overrated. Basically we have been in a cleanup mode of late to try and get this out for today. My intentions were to release today right after the patch. I am hopeful that it will happen but I can't guarantee it, I need to speak to Cubby and Markus to see if we can get the CTD with the Red Sox fixed. I am at the point where I don't even want to think about it anymore. I would much rather be planning for the 2007 roster file right now than continuing to figure out what is wrong with this file. I feel like I have an anvil hanging over my head every night when I get home from work to get this thing done. I am not looking for people to pay me. Granted that is their individual choice what they do with their money. I generally don't even want to respond to people blatantly complaining or praising, I like to do my stuff put and put it out for people to use. I miss the days of OOTP3 when noone knew my name, I put together a file that I was very happy with and had a lot of fun creating. With the game in the state that it is now compared to then, the roster file should be even more fun to create, unfortunately now with all the expectations and needs and wants it is starting to feel more like work than enjoyment which is depressing and disappointing to me. There have been days I have just wanted to say the heck with it and give up and go about my business, but Marc entrusted a lot of faith in me and allowed me to have as much rope as I wanted and now all I seem to have done is hang myself with it, well either that or trip over it. My mistakes have been showstoppers at times and caused major delays. The changes from file to file have lead to issues and now I am getting to a point where I am a bit turned around but the file needs to be completed. Wow that was long winded to say that something will be released this weekend hopefully today but no later than Sunday, come Hell or High water. I appreciate all the individuals that have offered assistance, unfortunately there are not that many jobs that can be divied up as there can only be one person working on the file at a time and with ratings you don't want to have too many systems at work in deciding who gets rated what. Hopefully I haven't annoyed too many people nor put too many people into a circle reading this post. Again I apologize for the file not being done, I don't want to see it go much longer as I am tired of the anvil. With that being said I have to get back to my full time job and make some money so that I can afford to continue to spend time making rosters. Erich

I am astonished time and time again by the lack of class displayed by some people on these boards.
With that, echoing what Erich is saying, we are going to attempt a release sometime in the next few days. |

Erich,
This is exactly what I was afraid of hearing you say. As someone who has thoroughly enjoyed your rosters over the years I hope this experience has not bittered you to the point of never wanting to do them again. I for one do not mind if you add fictional players to fill the lower levels. If you ever feel the need to complete those levels do so. If not let it go, you have worked too long and too hard to let the minor details bother you. Like most people in the community I want to thank you for your hard work and hope you will continue to do roster sets, no longer because you have to but because you want to. Thanks again.

I am grateful for all of the work you guys have done, even tho I have been as equally as frustrated as many people out there waiting for this roster set (but clearly not as much as you Erich, lol). I think a lot of the frustration/anger/impatience is not really directed at you guys making these rosters, but at the fact that a lot of these people have only been around since OOTP5 or so (like myself) and were used to seeing 3-4, possibly even 6-7+ different opening day roster sets for each season/version. Now to have to sit and wait while a single set gets designed, is very frustrating for people who have just bought a new game and can't wait to play it. Unfortunately there are some people out there who have no self control or just can't resist the freedom of flame aspect of the internet and instead of waiting quietly, they get all fired up over something they have no control over.
Let's all just try to understand this is not like previous attempts at building a roster (in recent memory) because the game has been totally rewriten, so this was a project from scratch. They didn't have someone elses set to work off of, and the process is clearly much more intense and difficult than any of the critics has realized. Not to mention there probably won't be a roster building venture like this for quite some time, since the people for future versions/seasons will be able to base theirs off of this version (until a new engine/code is used again, heh). So give these guys some friggin slack. It's obvious they haven't even met their own deadlines/expectations, so they clearly don't need any of us rambling on about how we could have done it "if we had the extra time and resources". It's obvious there was not even 1 other team out there willing to undertake this project, since we only have 1 roster set to rely on for this version. Good luck guys, and thanks for the work, I'm sure it will be well worth the wait. BTW, you will prolly need to start collecting donations to use to invest in some large quantities of hair color, for all the gray hair created by these fools

It had never even occured to me that there would be people actually complaining, and as maliciously as they have in this thread, kicking a gift horse in the mouth as it were. There are still plenty of us who do appreciate the work done by the actually valuable members of our community, even if the useless ones tend to shout a little louder sometimes. KUTGW!

This is actually my first yr in OOTPB and it's really sweet that somebody has dedicated all this time to doing this. I could imagine doing the ratings for every player on a team such as the Delmarva Shorebirds, lol, that must be very stressful. I was wondering how exactly they do this. I'm sure there's a bit of programming involved, am I right? I would be willing to do the stadium backdrops, if there's a way.

You have the game now. Get working. We're waiting. Are you done yet? How much longer? huh? Now? You keep saying you realize how much work they put in, but then you eventually get around to them owing you something. |

I'm continually amazed by the patience Erich and cubbyfan have with the whiners around here.
Then we can wait for round 2. The people who will complain about what they've received free. |

Dude, some of you guys are acting like you paid money for this roster. Heck, buy four full season tickets and parking to the Royals for the last two decades, like me, and then if you haven't hung yourself or given up to sacrificing virgins, then maybe it'll put things in perspective!
Seriously, thanks for the work, fellas. I can't wait!

Erich and Cubby - much thanks for all the work you've put into this roster set. Ignore the whiners and know that for every whining post there are 100s of others silently reading the thread who support you and your efforts. |
