I was watching the Barcelona v Chelsea game the other night and pretty much every player was wearing boots that weren't black, think it was when Alan Ball first wore white boots that they said if your going to wear boots that stand out you need to be a good player so howcome these average players are wearing them.

Anyways it got me thinking about what else I miss about football from years gone by besides players wearing black boots so I came up with a list, only one or two may understand some as a few are from when football was football.

Orange footballs on a snow covered pitch.

Muddy pitches in winter.

Home and Away kits none of this third, fourth and kits for Europe and so on.

Being able to stand up and watch a game.

European Cup.

2 Legs and not leagues.

Replays and not shoot outs and golden goals.

The Pink.

All games kicking off on a Saturday at 3pm.

Springfield Park.

Football Specials - Trains full of fans going to away games.

Gerald Sinstadt, best football commentator.

Seriously? Even the two goalies?

That reminds me of a piece of trivia I know. What happened for the first time in a European Cup/Champions League final in 1999-2000?

I didn't watch all of it with work and such but all I could see wearing black boots were the Barca keeper, maybe the Chelsea keeper although only saw him once and John Terry but again never really saw his feet, at the end when they came off a Chelsea player was wearing black boots but sure he was one of the subs.

But only player I now for sure was wearing black boots and that was the Barca keeper, two teams from the same country in the final ? One of the reasons that they should go back to only teams winning their championship should qualify.

Sorry, I should have said it followed on from what you mentioned, but yes, it was the first time two teams made the final from the same country.

What I meant was that it was the first time both goalies wore white boots (Iker Casillas for Real Madrid and Santiago Canizares for Valencia for those who are interested).

I was at the game the second time that two clubs from the same country played in the final when Milan played Juventus, boring game never felt like a European Final because they were from the same country poor atmosphere imo as well.

I have no knowledge of the 1932 Olympics, so you're going to have enlighten me on this one.

That game was famous for all the balls hanging above the pitch wasn't it?

The Newcastle one and can't think of the name but they put it down to games not kicking off at 3pm as their main reason to close it down.

They hung massive footballs above the pitch in the Champions League final at Old Trafford! If only I could find a picture to prove it.

No that was in Barcelona. This was 2003 - the game that UKHS went to between AC Milan and Juventus.
