Nice try. You forget that Keller spent most of his career in England, and we know he's a bit rubbish.

He was pretty good against Italy But Rooney has also been a little rubbish himself..a change of scenery can only help these men.

He's had a few off the field issues and can't keep his gob shut on it, but he always gives everything in every match. He has that never-say-die attitude that great players have.

Doesn't have to go back to yourself. Just kicking it through another players legs is a nutmeg, whether passing, shooting or dribbling.

One thing that last night proved again and that is Peter Crouch as yet to score against quality opposition, they keep going on about him scoring 6 goals in his last 5 games but fail to mention the goals came against 1 Uruguay (didn't qualify for World Cup), 1 Hungary (didn't qualify for World Cup), 3 against the mighty Jamaica (again didn't qualify for the World Cup) and 1 Trinidad & Tobago.

Even most of his goals last season in the Premiership came against teams that finished well down the league like Fulham, West Brom, Portsmouth and Birmingham City even had 2 credited against Wigan Athletic when one was clearly an own goal.

No doubt he will score against Ecuador and be claimed a football great when in fact he has as much right as being in the squad as Owen Hargreaves which imo is zero, as Crouch is nowhere near as good as Defoe (number of goals scored last season proves it) and Hargreaves should have been dropped from the squad for someone like Bent (extra forward in the squad) as Carrick could easily have done the same job last night as Hargreaves and probably better.

Crouch isn't in the squad to score goals, though, he's there to hold the ball up and bring others into play. Despite his size, that doesn't mean England should be pumping balls at his head, because he's not great in the air. He is good at receiving balls at his feet, on his chest, on his thigh, with his back to goal, holding it up and laying it off intelligently to a midfielder, or (not quite so good) threading it through for a quick striker.

I don't know anyone who suggests Crouch is a "great" player, not even the most loyal of Liverpool fans. Intelligent and useful, yes. No-one pretends he's a great goalscorer. He shouldn't be plan A, but he's a decent option. Not his fault SGE didn't pick 5 strikers, or picked 2 unfit ones, or picked a teenager he seems unwilling to actually use. I would definitely have taken Bent for his goalscoring last season; Defoe didn't have a great year, but he could have left Walcott behind and taken both.

As for Hargreaves - give him some credit, he had a good game. Carrick might have had a good game given the chance, but it would have been a different style. Regardless, Hargreaves did have a good game. He brough tempo and bustle to the midfield, which Carrick wouldn't necessarily. In the second half, it was Beckham who disappeared, and Cole/Lampard who don't bother tracking back - Hargreaves was overrun because of the lack of support until Gerrard came on, but worked his socks off.

I agree, more or less, it's just the lippy little gimp bit that annoys me. Plus, I'd rather we were signing virtually any of the other strikers we've been linked with (Bent, Defoe, Kuyt, Villa, etc, etc).

Oh; Defoe scored 9 goals in 38 games last season. Crouch scored 13 in 50. A similar strike rate, maybe, but your point doesn't stand up. Crouch makes far more for teammates, too.
