This could be an irritating last 20 minutes or so... Rooney likely to come off, probably bring on a midfielder and we'll drop deeper and deeper...

It's not his game - despite his size, what he's actually good at is dropping deep and linking up with the midfield; holding the ball, laying it off etc. Another reason pumping balls at his head is daft...

I think the group winners better off because they would face the winner of group D instead of group C in the quarterfinals...regardless of Germany.

Though thinking about it there aint much difference between the Dutch and Argentinians in terms of quality...so I retract my quickly made stupid statement.

Hmmm. The way we're playing he's going to be on the defensive, having to make tackles...

I think the Dutch might beat the Group D winner though. They haven't looked too bad and like Germany have some good young players.

The other point is that you can't really think that far ahead; you just try and win every game. I'd certainly rather play Ecuador than Germany, regardless of what happens after that... need time to get into some semblance of form, too before facing a really good opponent.

LOL at Rooney sulking on the bench.
NOT LOL at nearly conceding another.

thats primarily why I retracted it, I think either the Argentinians or Dutch should be favored against Portugal or Mexico.

I've still got a gut feeling that England will still get a winner somehow.
