Bracket D - Day 2
#1-Ted Williams vs. #16 -Luke Easter
Ted Williams hits 26 home runs to eliminate Luke Easter from the tournament. Easter hit 22. #8-Yogi Berra vs. #9-Howard Johnson It ain't over yet for Yogi Berra, who defeats Howard Johnson 22-18 to set-up a second round showdown with Ted Williams. #5-Carl Yastrzemski vs. #12-Jose Bautista Yaz has a big round of 33 to defeat Jose Bautista and his 15 home runs. #4-Jason Giambi vs. #13-Carl Sawatski Maybe it was a case of playing down to the competition but this was one of the most lackluster matchups Jason Giambi moves on with a 14-11 victory over Carl Sawatski. |

Round One Complete
And with that round one comes to completion leaving just 64 players to fight it out for the home run derby championship.
The success of the second seeds continues through the second half of the first round, with all 8 of the #2 seeds in the tournament moving on. Outside of Alex Rodriguez, seven of the number one seeds move on to round two unscathed, with seven #4 and #7 seeds also advancing. The worst seed to be so far out of the top eight was a #6 seed, as half the 6 seeds have been eliminated. Not faring much better was the #3 seeds, who saw three eliminations. Both the #5 and #7 seeds have 6 players remaining. The brackets are up to date here: OOTP HR Derby - Home Run 2 Derby 2013 |

Bracket H - Round Two - Day One
#1-Mike Schmidt vs. #8-Matt Williams
In a close matchup Mike Schmidt holds on for a narrow 27-22 victory to eliminate Matt Williams and advance to the next round. #12-Sadaharu Oh vs. #4-Bill McNulty While Bill McNulty is the higher ranked seed, Sadaharu Oh is definitely a dangerous #12 seed. This turns out to be close and Sadaharu oh squeaks out a razor thin victory to knock off Bill McNulty 21-20. |

Never would have thought Yogi would win over Ted Williams, and yet he did!
Sadly, this round's where he goes in my predictions. |

I like Yogi, but I wasn't positive he'd get out of the first round. Williams was one of the guys that I thought could win it all. Of course he chose this year to hit .381 with 39 doubles so in most other worlds he would have had a great year, but he just didn't hit enough home runs this year. |

Bracket E - Round Two - Day One
#1-Mark McGwire vs. #9-Eric Davis
Another number one seed falls as Eric Davis knocks off Mark McGwire 22-14 to advance. McGwire had the highest power potential out of anybody in the tournament, but his current numbers were much lower. If he made it past this round and developed he could have been very dangerous, but instead become the third number one seed to fall. #12-Ken Phelps vs. #13-Brady Anderson 12th seeded Ken Phelps moved on to the next round after defeating Brady Anderson 25-21, setting up a round three match-up against 9th seeded Eric Davis. ----------------------------- There is no steroid penalty, but with McGwire and ARod falling early there may be random justice. Maybe there's hope for Bonds to go next! |

Bracket C - Round Two - Day One
#6-Stan Musial vs. #3-Willie Mays
Willie Mays moves on to round three after knocking off Stan Musial 25-21. #7-Ernie Banks vs. #2-Frank Robinson Frank Robinson ends Ernie Banks chances after defeating him 24-21. Bracket 3 is a pretty impressive bracket. It was only one of three brackets where the 1-8 seeds were still alive, and with names like Ruth, Ott, Mize, Musial, Mays, Banks, and Robinson it's probably one of the most impressive brackets. |

Bracket G - Round Two - Day One
#11-Kevin Mitchell vs. #14-Gus Bell
In a battle between two underdogs Kevin Mitchell comes out ahead, winning by a 24-11 margin. #7-Dave Winfield vs. #2-Mule Suttles Another #2 seed falls, as Dave Winfield sends Mule Suttles home 21-14 in round two. After seeing Suttles do so well previously this one was a little surprising to me. |
