May 6th, 1977 San Diego 4 Montreal 2 Padres topple the Expos with a Late Rally. The Padres scored 2 in the bottom of the 8 to break a 2-2 tie. Padres SP Tom Griffin allowed 2 runs on 6 hits over 7 innings to give the Padres a solid chance to win. SP Jackie Brown did the same for the Expos, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits over 7 innings but it was MR Joe Kerrigan (0-3) that gave up 4 hits and 2 runs in the 8th. Expos SP Dan Warthen allowed 2 runs on 5 hits over 5.2 innings but it was MR Will McEnaney (2-2) with the win. SP Jackie Brown came on to get the final 5 outs for his 1st save. RF Ellis Valentine had 2 hits and 2 RBIs including his 7th HR of the year. 1B Tony Perez hit his 4th HR. For the Expos it was there 4th straight win. It was Ellis Valentine's 2-run HR in the 4th that tied the game. Toronto Blue Jays SP Jesse Jefferson allowed 4 hits and struck out 7 over 9 innings in a 5-0 win over the Rangers. Expos SP Steve Rogers (7-7) allowed 2 runs on 4 hits with 10 strikeouts over 8.1 innings for the win. 1B Del Unser had 2 hits and 2 RBIs including his 2nd triple of the year. Astros SP Floyd Bannister (6-6) allowed 3 runs on 5 hits with 7 Ks over 8 innings in the win. Pirates SP John Candelaria (10-3) allowed 3 runs on 5 hits with 5 Ks over 8 innings for the win. SP Steve Rogers (7-8) allowed 5 runs on 9 hits over 7 innings. RF Ellis Valentine hit his 13th HR of the season in the loss. The Pirates scored 2 in the bottom of the 6th that included a Bobby Tolan RBI single and Ed Ott's RBI single. Montreal 7 Pittsburgh 5 The Expos scored 3 in the 1st and 3rd innings to take an early 6-0 lead and held on for the win. Despite the loss, Pirates 2B Rennie Stennett had 2 hits and 3 RBIs including his 3rd HR of the year. RF Ellis Valentine had 3 hits including his 10th and 11th doubles of the year. LF Warren Cromartie had 3 RBIs with his 7th triple this season and 1B Del Unser had 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Valentine added 2 SBs to reach 10 on the season. The Expos had a 3-run bottom of the 7th to make it 6-2 and break open the game. Expos 3B Larry Parrish had 3 hits and 3 RBIs including his 8th and 9th HRs. 2B Dave Cash had 3 hits, 1B Tony Perez had 3 hits and 5 RBIs including his 10th HR. SP Stan Bahnsen (3-3) allowed 2 runs on 4 hits over 7 innings in the win. It was Tony Perez's 3-run HR in the 7th that was the key blow. Montreal 7 New York 0 The Expos sweep the Mets today courtesy of 13 more hits and a 5-run bottom of the 6th. Expos RF Ellis Valentine had 4 hits including his 12th double to lead the Expos. July 3rd, 1977 Montreal 6 New York 2 The Expos complete a 4 game sweep of the Mets and now have won 5 games straight. The Expos used 13 hits and a 4-run bottom of the 1st to secure the win. Expos SP Wayne Twitchell (5-4) allowed 2 runs on 6 hits with 6 strikeouts in the complete game win. Twitchell is now 2-1 with a 2.75 ERA in 4 games since becoming an Expo. 2B Dave Cash had 3 hits including his 12th double, SS Chris Speier had 3 hits with his 13th double and 1B Tony Perez had 2 hits and 2 RBIs added his 22nd double for the Expos. The Cubs had a 3 run bottom of the 1st and added 5 more in the 3rd to take a 8-2 lead and the easy win. Cubs RF Bobby Murcer had 2 hits and 4 RBIs including his 17th and 18th HRs of the year. SP Jackie Brown (4-4) got lit up for 8 runs on 5 hits with 6 walks over just 2.1 innings. Brown faced 18 hitters to get 7 outs. Bill Buckner led the onslaught in the 3rd with a lead off solo-HR, Steve Swisher had a bases loaded walk followed by a bases clearing 3-run triple by Ray Burris. Montreal 5 Chicago 2 (10) The Expos got back on the winning track in game 2 an earned a split of todays double header courtesy of a 3-run top of the 10th. July 5th, 1977 Montreal 8 Chicago 4 The Expos scored 4 runs in the top of the 7th to take a 6-2 lead and held on to win. Expos RF Ellis Valentine had 2 hits and 6 RBIs including his 16th and 17th HRs of the year. 3B Wayne Garrett had 3 hits as well for the Expos. SP Stan Bahnsen allowed 2 runs on 7 hits over 4.2 innings but it was MR Dan Schatzeder (1-0) with the win working 1.1 innings. MR Bill Atkinson picked up his 3rd save. A 20 minute rain delay in the 4th ended Bahnsen's night early. Valentine hit a 2 out Grand Slam HR in the 7th to put the game away.
