Padres topple the Expos with a Late Rally. The Padres scored 2 in the bottom of the 8 to break a 2-2 tie. Padres SP Tom Griffin allowed 2 runs on 6 hits over 7 innings to give the Padres a solid chance to win. SP Jackie Brown did the same for the Expos, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits over 7 innings but it was MR Joe Kerrigan (0-3) that gave up 4 hits and 2 runs in the 8th. LF Warren Cromartie hit his 1st HR of the season for the Expos. Griffin split time with the Padres and Astros in 1976.

Cleveland Indians SP Dennis Eckersley allowed 2 hits and struck out 9 in a complete game 12-1 win over the White Sox. The 22 year old Eckersley is 3-1 with a 3.06 ERA in 6 games this year.

The Padres turn back Montreal 5-4. The Padres scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th to take a 5-4 lead and win. Padres 3B Mike Ivie had 2 hits and 2 RBIs including his 6th HR of the year. The Expos got 3 hits from RF Ellis Valentine and 2 hits and 2 RBIs from LF Warren Cromartie including his 2nd triple of the year. SP Don Stanhouse allowed 3 runs on 5 hits over 5.1 innings while MR Will McEnaney (1-2) took the loss giving up 2 runs on 3 hits over 1.1 innings. Ivie hit 5 HRs in 147 games last year, he has 6 in just 26 games in 1977.

Atlanta Braves RF Jeff Burroughs had a 3 for 5 day at the plate with 2 HRs and 4 RBIs in a 10-3 win over the Cubs. The 26 year old Burroughs is hitting .308 with 5 HRs and 25 RBIs in 26 games.

Baker is coming off a .292 season with 14 HRs and 62 RBIs in 1976.

Pittsburgh Pirates RF Dave Parker had 4 hits in 8 at bats with 2 HRs and 3 RBIs in a doubleheader sweep of the Braves. The 25 year old Parker is hitting .370 with 10 HRs and 30 RBIs in 26 games.

The Texas Rangers have traded 3B Roy Howell to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for RP Steve Hargan, SS Jim Mason and $200,000 cash. Yeager goes 3 for 5, Dodgers move to 19-10. The Dodgers opened up a huge 10-2 lead with a 5 run top of the 6th. C Steve Yeager had 5 RBIs including a Grand Slam HR, his 4th HR of the year. Expos SP Don Stanhouse (2-4) allowed 5 runs on 6 hits with 7 walks in 3.2 innings. Expos 3B Larry Parrish had 2 hits and 3 RBIs including his 5th double of the season. LF Warren Cromartie his his 2nd HR of the year. Yeager, the 1976 NL League Championship MVP has a modest 5 game hit streak going.

Seattle Mariners RF Leroy Stanton was 2 for 3 with 2 HRs and 4 RBIs in a 7-6 win over the Yankees. The 31 year old Stanton is hitting .311 with 4 HRs and 11 RBIs in 19 games.

National League President Chub Feeney has announced that he has placed a "desist order" on Atlanta Braves owner Ted Turner from managing the Braves. Turner sent current manager Dave Bristol on a scouting trip and took over the helm of the Braves in a 2-1 loss to the Pirates.

Dodgers come up short in Montreal. The Expos broke a 5-5 tie with a run in the bottom of the 7th for the win. Despite the loss, Dodgers 2B Davey Lopes was named the POG with his 2 hits including his 6th HR of the season. Expos RF Ellis Valentine had 2 hits and 2 RBIs including his 4th HR, C Gary Carter had 2 hits and 2 RBIs with 2 doubles, his 6th and 7th. 3B Larry Parrish hit his 4th HR of the season. Expos SP Gerry Hannahs allowed 5 runs on 6 hits with 7 walks over 6 innings but it was MR Bill Atkinson (2-0) with the win for his work in the 8th. MR Joe Kerrigan got his 3rd save despite giving up 3 hits in the 9th. Lopes had the odd statistic in that he has 6 HRs and only 7 RBIs on the season.

San Francisco Giants SP John Montefusco allowed 2 hits and struck out 7 in a complete game 4-0 shutout of the Phillies. The 26 year old Montefusco is 2-4 with a 3.43 ERA in 8 games.

Cubs bang out a 6-4 win in Montreal. The Cubs scored 4 in the top of the 2nd for an early 4-0 lead and hang on to win. Cubs SP Bill Bonham (4-1) allowed 2 runs on 2 hits over 7 innings for the win. Expos SP Dan Warthen (0-1) allowed 5 runs on 8 hits over just 5 innings in his 1st start of the season. Bonham is won his last 4 starts allowing 8 earned runs in 31 innings.

Detroit Tigers LF Ben Oglivie had 3 hits in 4 at bats with 2 HRs and 3 RBIs in a 13-3 win over the Brewers. The 28 year old Oglivie is hitting .284 with 7 HRs and 23 RBIs in 29 games.

Rogers Zero's in on Chicago. The Expos got 1 run in the bottom of the 6th and rode the arm of Steve Rogers for the win. Rogers (3-3) evened his record with a 3 hits complete game shutout. Rogers faced just 5 batters more then the minimum in the win. RF Ellis Valentine hit his 5th HR of the year, the only score in the game. Rogers had a good outing after back to back 7 run starts.

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Mike Schmidt had a 2 for 2 game which included 2 HRs and 3 RBIs in a 8-5 win over the Padres. The 27 year old Schmidt is hitting .353 with 6 HRs and 26 RBIs in 28 games.

The Expos lose to the Cubs 12-5 in game one of a twin bill. The Cubs scored 7 in the top of the 1st to take the 8655 fans out of the game early. Cubs leadoff hitter SS Ivan de Jesus had 2 hits and 2 RBIs including his 2nd triple of the year. Expos RF Ellis Valentine had 2 hits and 2 RBIs including his 1st triple of the season. Expos SP Don Stanhouse (2-5) allowed 7 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits over just 3 innings. The 24 year old de Jesus is the Cubs every day SS this season after appearing in just 110 games over the past 3 seasons.

Expos stymie Chicago and take game two of the doubleheader. Expos SP Jackie Brown (2-0) allowed 1 run on 4 hits over 7 innings for the win. MR Bill Atkinson got the final 6 outs for his 1st save. 1B Tony Perez hit his 3rd HR of the year. Brown last started on May 6th in a 7-6 loss to the Dodgers, he currently has an 1.63 ERA on the season.

Boston Red Sox SS Steve Dillard was 4 for 4 with a double and 3 RBIs in a 15-10 win over the Mariners. The 26 year old Dillard is hitting .300 with 2 HRs and 7 RBIs in 15 games.

Detroit Tigers, and former Expos RF Rusty Staub was named the AL Player of the Week. The 33 year old Staub is hitting .320 with 6 HRs and 25 RBIs in 32 games.

Atlanta's Leon shuts out the Expos. The Braves scored 5 in the bottom of the 5th, 4 more in the 6th for the easy win. Braves SP Max Leon (1-2) allowed 6 hits in a complete game shutout. Expos SP Dan Warthen (0-2) allowed 5 runs on 7 hits over 5 innings in the loss. Leon starting in his 3 straight game after 2 relief appearances lasted only 9.2 innings and gave up 9 earned runs in his previous 2 starts.

Expos SP Steve Rogers (4-3) allowed 2 runs on 5 hits with 5 strikeouts over 7 innings for the win. 2B Dave Cash had 4 hits while 1B Tony Perez had 3 hits including his 10th double. LF Warren Cromartie had 2 hits and 3 RBIs. Dave Cash added his 4th and 5th SB's of the year. Rogers has won his last 2 starts allowing 2 ERs over 16 innings.

Texas Rangers CF Juan Beniquez had 3 hits in 4 at bats with 3 HRs and 6 RBIs in a 17-3 win over the Tigers. The 27 year old Beniquez is hitting .250 with 7 HRs and 18 RBIs in 30 games.

Expos sneak past the Padres, 7-6. The Padres opened a 5-0 lead in the top of the 2nd with a 5-run inning, but the Expos fought back including a 3-run bottom of the 7th to make it 6-5 Padres. PH Wayne Garrett hit a 2-run walk off HR in the 9th off Rollie Fingers to secure the win. SP Don Stanhouse allowed 6 runs on 6 hits and 5 walks over 4.1 innings but it was MR Joe Kerrigan (1-3) with the win for his perfect 2 innings of work. Garrett has been mostly used as a PH this season, starting just 1 game for the Expos.

San Francisco Giants RF Terry Whitfield goes 5 for 5 and completes the cycle adding 4 RBIs in a 11-5 win over the Mets. The 24 year old Whitfield is hitting .323 with 1 HR and 10 RBIs in 30 games.

Milwaukee Brewers 1B Cecil Cooper extends his hit streak to 20 games in a 9-2 win over the Blue Jays. The 27 year old Cooper is hitting .351 with 3 HRs and 25 RBIs in 36 games.

Expos use Late-game Magic to beat the Padres. Trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the 6th, the Expos score 4, add another in the 8th for the win. Despite the loss, 1B Mike Ivie had 4 hits including 2 doubles for the Padres. RF Ellis Valentine hits his 6th HR for the Expos. Expos SP Gerry Hannahs allowed 4 runs on 10 hits over 5 innings but it was MR Bill Atkinson (3-0) with the win. Ivie has been swinging a hot bat of late including hitting a Grand Slam on May 2nd against the Phillies.

New York Yankees 3B Graig Nettles goes 2 for 3 with 2 HRs and 5 RBIs in a 12-2 win over the Orioles. The 32 year old Nettles is hitting .289 with 7 HRs and 24 RBIs in 34 games.

The Cincinnati Reds have traded SP Santo Alcala to the Montreal Expos in exchange for a player to be named later. The 24 year old Alcala is 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA in 2 starts, 3 games for the Reds.

Expos bridle the Padres 4-2. The Expos overcame a 2-0 deficit in the bottom of 4 to tie the game and eventual pulled out a win. Expos SP Dan Warthen allowed 2 runs on 5 hits over 5.2 innings but it was MR Will McEnaney (2-2) with the win. SP Jackie Brown came on to get the final 5 outs for his 1st save. RF Ellis Valentine had 2 hits and 2 RBIs including his 7th HR of the year. 1B Tony Perez hit his 4th HR. For the Expos it was there 4th straight win. It was Ellis Valentine's 2-run HR in the 4th that tied the game.

Toronto Blue Jays SP Jesse Jefferson allowed 4 hits and struck out 7 over 9 innings in a 5-0 win over the Rangers. The 28 year old Jefferson is 5-2 with a 1.61 ERA in 8 games.

Milwaukee Brewers 1B Cecil Cooper has his hitting streak snapped at 21 games in a 9-2 loss to the Red Sox. The 27 year old Cooper is hitting .340 with 3 HRs and 25 RBIs in 38 games.

Expos 3B Wayne Garrett had 3 hits in a losing cause. D'Acquisto was appearing in his 1st game since being traded from the Cardinals this past week.

The Expos out hit the Cubs 10-8 in beating Chicago today. Expos LF Warren Cromartie had 4 hits, all singles in the win. Expos SP Don Stanhouse (3-5) allowed 3 runs on 8 hits with 5 strikeouts over 6.2 innings. MR Bill Atkinson got the final 6 outs for his 2nd save. Cromartie is becoming a regular in the outfield starting 35 of the Expos 36 games this season.

He allowed 5 runs on 10 hits with 5 strikeouts over 8 innings. 3B Wayne Garrett had 3 RBIs courtesy of his 2nd HR of the season. The 2nd year Krukow appeared in 14 games in 1976 as a reliever without a start, but has started all 9 games he has appeared in in 1977.

The Cardinals got all the offense they would need with a 3-run bottom of the 1st and held on to win. SP Bob Forsch (4-4) allowed 2 runs on 3 hits over 7 innings for the win. Expos SP Dan Warthen (1-3) allowed 3 runs on 6 hits over 7 innings for the loss. The loss is the 4th straight for the Expos. Former Expos RF Roger Freed delivered a 3-run HR in the 1st, his 1 HR of the year.

SS Chris Speier had 3 RBIs including his 2nd HR of the year while 1B Tony Perez had 2 hits and 2 RBIs courtesy of his 6th HR this year. Expos RF Andre Dawson added his 3rd HR. Expos SP Steve Rogers allowed 5 runs (1 earned) over 6 innings with 5 hits and 5 walks. It was MR Bill Atkinson (4-1) with the win, he pitched 2 innings. Expos Dave Cash has lead the NL in at bats for the past 3 seasons.

The Mets scored 6 runs in their final 3 innings to overcome a 3-1 Expos lead and hung on for the win. Mets lead off hitter CF Lenny Randle had 3 hits and 2 RBIs including his 2nd triple of the year. The Expos got a solo HR from RF Ellis Valentine, his 9th of the season. Expos SP Stan Bahnsen (1-2) making his 1st start as an Expos allowed 7 runs on 8 hits over 7 innings. The 28 year old Randle now has 22 career triples compared to just 13 HRs in 638 games.

Milwaukee Brewers RF Sixto Lezcano goes 5 for 8 with 3 double and 3 RBIs in splitting a twin bill with the White Sox. The 23 year old Lezcano is hitting .339 with 9 HRs and 34 RBIs in 50 games.

The Expos scored a 3-run top of the 8th to make it 7-1 and put it out of reach. Making just his 2nd start as an Expos, SP Santo Alcala (3-1) allowed 1 run on 5 hits with 5 strikeouts over 5.2 innings for the win. 2B Dave Cash had 3 hits including his 4th triple of the season. C Gary Carter had 2 hits and 2 RBIs including his 9th double while RF Andre Dawson had 2 hits and 2 RBIs which seen Dawson hit his 4th HR of the year. For Alcala, it was his 25th career MLB start and he sits with a 12-9 record with a 3.04 ERA in 186 career innings.

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Richie Hebner has a 2 for 2 day with 2 HRs and 3 RBIs in a 5-2 win over Hebners former team, the Pirates. The 29 year old Hebner is hitting .228 with 6 HRs and 16 RBIs in 37 games.

Unfortunately MR Don Stanhouse (4-7) blew his 1st save opportunity giving up 3 runs in 1 inning of work. 1B Tony Perez had 2 hits and 2 RBIs to lead the Expos offensively. The 29 year old Twitchell had last started for the Phillies on May 18th, had appeared in 5 relief appearances before getting traded to the Expos.

The Astros scored a 4-run top of the 9th to overcome an 3-2 Expos lead and the win. Astros SP Floyd Bannister (6-6) allowed 3 runs on 5 hits with 7 Ks over 8 innings in the win. SP Santos Alcala allowed 2 runs on 6 hits with 5 strikeouts over 7 innings but it was MR Joe Kerrigan (1-4) with his 3rd blown save of the year. CF Andre Dawson had 2 hits and 2 RBIs including his 5th HR of the year while 1B Tony Perez added his 9th of the season. RF Jose Cruz was the Astro hero with his bases clearing 3 run double in the 9th. For Bannister, it was his 5th straight start with 8 or more innings pitched.

It what can only be discribed as a pitchers duel left the teams tied 1-1 after 9 innings. Each team scored a run in the 12th but the 15th the Expos scored 2 and held the Pirates to 1 for the win. Pirates SP Bruce Kison allowed 1 run on 3 hits over 7 innings, but did not get the decision. SP Jackie Brown allowed 1 run on 8 hits over 7 innings. MR Don Stanhouse (5-7) pitched the final 2 innings for the win. Tony Perez hit a run scoring double and Gary Carter followed with another run scoring double in the 9th for the key runs. Carter had 3 hits for the Expos as did LF Warren Cromartie. Kison has only won 1 of his last 5 starts.

Oakland Athletics SS Rob Picciolo had 3 hits in 4 at bats with a HR and 4 RBIs in a 10-2 win over the Royals. The 25 year old Picciolo is hitting .227 with 3 HRs and 11 RBIs in 44 games.

The Pirates scored 2 in the bottom of the 6th that included a Bobby Tolan RBI single and Ed Ott's RBI single.

The Expos scored 3 in the 1st and 3rd innings to take an early 6-0 lead and held on for the win. Despite the loss, Pirates 2B Rennie Stennett had 2 hits and 3 RBIs including his 3rd HR of the year. RF Ellis Valentine had 3 hits including his 10th and 11th doubles of the year. LF Warren Cromartie had 3 RBIs with his 7th triple this season and 1B Del Unser had 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Valentine added 2 SBs to reach 10 on the season. SP Stan Bahnsen (2-3) allowed 5 runs on 12 hits over 7 innings for the win, MR Don Stanhouse got the final out for his 4th save. Wayne Garrett hit an RBI single in the 5th and Dave Cash followed with an RBI single to make it 3-0 after 5 innings.

Toronto Blue Jays 3B Doug Rader had 5 hits in 8 at bats with 3 HRs and 6 RBIs in a double header split with the Yankees. The 32 year old Rader is hitting .282 with 14 HRs and 49 RBIs in 77 games with the Padres and Blue Jays.

LF Warren Cromartie had 3 hits in the loss. Jose Cardenal hit the RBI single in the 9th for the win.

The Expos scored 3 in the bottom of the 7th to take a 6-1 lead and held on for the win. Expos SP Steve Rogers (8-8) allowed 4 runs on 9 hits with 10 strikeouts over 8 innings for the win. MR Will McEnaney needed just 9 pitches in the 9th for his 1st save. 1B Tony Perez had 2 hits and 3 RBIs including his 21st double. RF Ellis Valentine hit his 14th HR while PH Jerry White hit his 1st HR of the season. Perez cleared the bases with his double in the 7th.

Cincinnati Reds, and former Expo SP Woodie Fryman allowed 6 hits while striking out 7 in a complete game 5-0 shutout of the Giants. The 37 year old Fryman is 4-5 with a 4.52 ERA in 13 games with the Reds.

Expos 3B Larry Parrish had 3 hits and 3 RBIs including his 8th and 9th HRs. 2B Dave Cash had 3 hits, 1B Tony Perez had 3 hits and 5 RBIs including his 10th HR. SP Stan Bahnsen (3-3) allowed 2 runs on 4 hits over 7 innings in the win. It was Tony Perez's 3-run HR in the 7th that was the key blow.

Warren Cromartie lead off the 4th with a solo-HR followed 2 batters later by Wayne Garrett's 2-run HR.

The Expos complete a 4 game sweep of the Mets and now have won 5 games straight. The Expos used 13 hits and a 4-run bottom of the 1st to secure the win. Expos SP Wayne Twitchell (5-4) allowed 2 runs on 6 hits with 6 strikeouts in the complete game win. Twitchell is now 2-1 with a 2.75 ERA in 4 games since becoming an Expo. 2B Dave Cash had 3 hits including his 12th double, SS Chris Speier had 3 hits with his 13th double and 1B Tony Perez had 2 hits and 2 RBIs added his 22nd double for the Expos. Ellis Valentine hit a RBI single to start the scoring in the 1st, Perez followed with a 2-run single and Perez later scored when Warren Cromartie hit into a fielder's choice.

The Cubs crush the Expos in game 1 of the twinbill and snap the Expos modest 5 game win streak. The Cubs had a 3 run bottom of the 1st and added 5 more in the 3rd to take a 8-2 lead and the easy win. Cubs RF Bobby Murcer had 2 hits and 4 RBIs including his 17th and 18th HRs of the year. SP Jackie Brown (4-4) got lit up for 8 runs on 5 hits with 6 walks over just 2.1 innings. Brown faced 18 hitters to get 7 outs. Bill Buckner led the onslaught in the 3rd with a lead off solo-HR, Steve Swisher had a bases loaded walk followed by a bases clearing 3-run triple by Ray Burris.

The Expos got back on the winning track in game 2 an earned a split of todays double header courtesy of a 3-run top of the 10th. RF Ellis Valentine hit his 15th HR of the year for the Expos. In the top of the 10th with 1 out, Warren Cromartie hit a RBI single and was immediately followed by Valentines 2-run shot.

The Expos scored 4 runs in the top of the 7th to take a 6-2 lead and held on to win. Expos RF Ellis Valentine had 2 hits and 6 RBIs including his 16th and 17th HRs of the year. 3B Wayne Garrett had 3 hits as well for the Expos. SP Stan Bahnsen allowed 2 runs on 7 hits over 4.2 innings but it was MR Dan Schatzeder (1-0) with the win working 1.1 innings. MR Bill Atkinson picked up his 3rd save. A 20 minute rain delay in the 4th ended Bahnsen's night early. Valentine hit a 2 out Grand Slam HR in the 7th to put the game away.

Seattle Mariners CF Ruppert Jones was 4 for 5 with a HR and 2 RBIs in a 7-6 loss to the White Sox. The 22 year old Jones is hitting .271 with 7 HRs and 45 RBIs in 83 games.
