Scotland - Bantamweights

There are 4 warriors in this division.

Semi-Finals:

Tancy Lee vs John Smillie - Lee too a bit of time to get untracked against the tougher than expected Smillie, but a huge hook in the 6th put him down for the count.

Jim Brady vs Peter Keenan - Brutality was the name of the game as both men pummeled one another throughout. It went the distance however and the judges had it 7-7, 8-7 Brady and 8-7 Keenan for the draw.

Rematch:

Jim Brady vs Peter Keenan - Keenan built up a lead just like the last fight, though this time it seemed insurmountable when Brady exploded with a huge round fueled by the lone knockdown of the fight in the 13th, then followed it up by punishing Keenan throughout the 14th before the referee stepped in to stop the damage. Call it a 14th round TKO for Brady.

Final:

Tancy Lee vs Jim Brady - Good close battle cut short by a wicked combination by Lee that put Brady out for the count. Lee Improves to 2-0-0 (2) heading into the World Tournament.

There are 9 fighters in the Flyweight Division so there will be a fight in.

Fight-In:

Frankie Jones vs Michael Riley - Jones started fast, scoring a 2nd round knockdown but Riley stormed back, scoring a pair of knockdowns in the 8th including the KO at 2:56 in the round.

Scotland - Flyweights - Quarter-Finals

Quarter-Finals:

Elky Clark vs Michael Riley - Clark had his way with Riley, scoring a pair of knockdowns in the 11th then 2 more in the 12th round of his KO win.

Benny Lynch vs Johnny McCluskey - McCluskey was poised on a possible upset when Lynch landed a wicked right hook followed by a left cross that put McCluskey down for 10 with 1 minute remaining in the 15th and final round! McCluskey was up 7-6, 8-5 and 4-9 through 14 on the official cards.

Johnny Hill vs Jackie Brown - Brown was holding his own in this tactical bout when a cut over his right eye ended things in the 9th round for the TKO by Hill.

Walter McGowan vs Jackie Paterson - A dominant performance by McGowan as he battered Paterson unmercifully for 15 full rounds. The judges scored it closer than I would have 9-4, 11-3 and 10-4 for McGowan.

Scotland - Flyweights - Semi-Finals & Final

Semi-Finals:

Elky Clark vs Johnny Hill - Clark was cruising along building up the rounds when a wicked combination floored him in the 8th round for a 9 count! Hill then followed up quite nicely with shots from every direction before the referee suddenly stepped in to protect the favored Clark for the 8th round TKO upset by Hill!

Benny Lynch vs Walter McGowan - Lynch was up on 2 out of the 3 cards in this suprisingly close bout when he scored a hard shot to the temple of McGowan in the 15th round for the KO.

Final:

Benny Lynch vs Johnny Hill - Hill took control early then showed signs of fraying as Lynch stormed back. A cut that had opened in the 8th on the bridge of the nose of Lynch reopened in the 10th to hand Hill his 2nd straight upset and a 3-0-0 (3) record. He's earned the berth to the World Tourney in improbable fashion, beating both the #1 and #2 seeds to get there.

South Africa - Heavyweights - Fight-Ins

There are 19 fighters in the Heavyweight Tournament so there will be 3 fight-ins to set the field at 16.

Fight-Ins:

Johnny Ralph vs Joe Coverwell - After 3 rather mundane rounds Ralph came out and battered Coverwell until the referee stepped in to stop things for the TKO in the 4th.

James Robertson Couper vs Fred Storbeck - Storbeck survived 2 early knockdowns and lost a point for biting, but came back strong with 3 knockdowns including the KO shot with 3 seconds remaining in the 10th round.

Courage Tshabalala vs Sam Ubokane - Ubokane countered well, but one sensed it was just a matter of time until Tshabalala got to him, and he did in the 6th to score the KO with a jarring uppercut to the chin.

South Africa - Heavyweights - Round 1

Round 1:

Gerrie Coetzee vs Fred Storbeck - Coetzee pummeled Storbeck for the entire fight, taking every round until his 3rd knockdown of the fight ended up being the KO blow in the 12th.

Johnny Arthur vs Courage Tshabalala - Arthur was dominating, scoring a knockdown in the 3rd. He walked into a pair of uppercuts in the 5th however, both knocking him down, the final one for the count in this major upset by Tshabalala!

Francois Botha vs Johnny Ralph - Botha pummeled Ralph, causing some swelling on the left eye, then targeting it for the rest of the fight until the 9th when the ring doctor decided the damage was too severe to allow Ralph to continue. Botha earned the 9th round TKO due to injury.

Pierre Coetzer vs Bennie Knoetze - Back and forth slugfest that saw Knoetze get up from a knockdown in the 8th round to score one of his own! Unfortunately in the 9th a gash reopened over the right eye of Knoetze to end things for the Coetzer TKO.

Don McCorkindale vs Jimmy Abbott - Abbott landed a knockdown punch in the 1st round but after that it was all McCorkindale as he wore Abbott down then scored knockdowns in the 10th then the KO in the 11th round.

Corrie Sanders vs Ben Foord - Foord hung in close against the stronger Sanders, but 2 knockdowns in the 14th spelled the end in Sanders's 14th round KO.

Johnny DuPlooy vs Kallie Knoetze - Both men were center ring and toe to toe for the first 2 rounds then DuPlooy landed several hard shots in the 3rd followed by the KO shot at the end of the round.

Mike Schutte vs Jimmy Richards - Both men were down, but Schutte had more power and was far more accurate as he won the decision 11-4, 10-4 and 9-5.

South Africa - Quarter-Finals

Quarter-Finals:

Gerrie Coetzee vs Courage Tshabalala - Tshabalala scored a knockdown in the 2nd round, then went down in the 8th and 9th when near the end of the round the referee inexpicitly stopped the bout claiming Tshabalala was defenseless and handing Coetzee a hard fought TKO. Most observers felt Tshabalala was defending himself when the fight was stopped.

Francois Botha vs Johnny DuPlooy - While neither man was down, DuPlooy landed the more telling blows, taking complete control in the 6th round for the TKO win.

Pierre Coetzer vs Mike Schutte - Grueling battle between 2 sluggers saw Coetzer get stopped due to nasty swelling around his right eye in the 12th round. It was a pick-em fight to that point.

Don McCorkindale vs Corrie Sanders - Sanders dominated from the opening bell, closing McCorkindales left eye in the 10th to force the TKO.

South Africa - Heavyweights - Semi-Finals & Final

Semi-Finals:

Gerrie Coetzee vs Johnny DuPlooy - DuPlooy was in control for most of this fight before scoring the shocking KO in the 8th to move to the finals.

Corrie Sanders vs Mike Schutte - Schutte fought back valiantly, but Sanders was in control throughout before the fight was stopped due to massive swelling around the left eye of Schutte.

Final:

Corrie Sanders vs Johnny DuPlooy - DuPlooy fought well for the first 3 rounds but Sanders caught him with a wicked uppercut then followed with a series of unanswered shots that forced the referee to step in and stop the bout for the 4th round TKO. Sanders improves to 4-0-0 (4) and will represent South Africa in the World Tournament.

Final:

Andre Thysse vs Soon Botes - Thysse came out firing from the opening bell, scoring at will then hurting Botes with a series of shots that forced the referee to step in with 35 seconds remaining in the 1st round for the TKO! Thysse improves to 3-0-0 (3) heading into the World Tournament.

Same here. I have decided to wait until the rest of the countries are finished before doing the United States tourney as it'll make it easier for me to adminstrate in the long run. So don't be suprised when I skip the USA until the very end.
