May 2010 - Milwaukee Brewers
Manager and GM Fritsche 7th May 2010 We finally won a series again, beating the Marlins 2 games to 1. Pitching was doing well finally, but will face a serious test in the upcoming Interleague series at Los Angeles. At least Erik Bedard should be used to those American League batters. The Angels - like we a save bet for a playoff berth the last three years - had a rather cold start to the season as well. Besides we have to deal with some tricky free agent negotiations (Gross and Fujita). Especially tricky when keeping in mind that Fielder's and Braun's arbitration years soon come to an end. Injury Report: Milwaukee none Los Angeles (A) none Game # 28 –Milwaukee [15-12] (E. Bedard 2-3, 9.33 ERA) at Los Angeles (A) [14-15] (S O'Sullivan 3-3, 4.89 ERA) Los Angeles (A): LF Juan Rivera (.248, 5 HR, 17 RBI) C Michael Collins (.303, 7 HR, 19 RBI) 1B Howie Kendrick (.261, 3 HR, 17 RBI, 5 SB) SS Sean Rodriguez (.290, 5 HR, 12 RBI, 4 SB) 3B Brandon Wood (.227, 4 HR, 14 RBI) RF Vladimir Guerrero (.317, 5 HR, 20 RBI, 1 SB) 2B Brandon Phillips (.267, 1 HR, 2 RBI) CF Gary Matthews (.231, 0 HR, 1 RBI, 2 SB) DH Shane Victorino (.217, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 1 SB) Milwaukee: 2B Orlando Hudson (.214, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 2 SB) DH Rickie Weeks (.290, 2 HR, 13 RBI, 4 SB) LF Ryan Braun (.313, 5 HR, 17 RBI, 2 SB) 1B Prince Fielder (.284, 8 HR, 24 RBI, 2 SB) RF Gabe Gross (.329, 3 HR, 13 RBI) SS Trevor Plouffe (.271, 1 HR, 9 RBI) 3B Mat Gamel (.306, 3 HR, 10 RBI) C Kenji Johjima (.245, 2 HR, 9 RBI) CF Lorenzo Cain (.211, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 1 SB) Milwaukee at Los Angeles (A): 0-3 W: S. May 2010 - Milwaukee Brewers
Manager and GM Fritsche 11th May 2010 Positive: the Angels didn't sweep as thanks to the best career start of Carlos Villanueva. Also fine that we got six quality starts in eight tries this month. But negative: our offense is very cold. Should we give the guys more them or shock them with a blockbuster trade? A potential improovement could be Buffalo's Brent Clevlen (.288, 4 HR, 9 RBI) he is only the 4th outfielder of his team. We now make a trip to Canada to visit the breathtaking Port of Vancouver Arena. Hopefully we can win the series against the rather sad Marmots. Also sad that we trail the Reds (!) by two games now in NL Central. Injury Report: Milwaukee none Vancouver none Game # 31 –Milwaukee [16-14] (B. Webb 2-3, 3.67 ERA) at Vancouver [12-19] (D. May 2010 - Milwaukee Brewers
Manager and GM Fritsche 14th May 2010 In German football (= soccer) language we have a saying "let's try to keep the ball down", sadly Erik Bedard doesn't know any German and couldn't keep the ball down either. He suffered 60 hits (9 home runs) and 18 walks in 40.0 innings pitched. I'm really curious how he deals with AAA batters. I'm curious as well if Manny Parra can be a dominant starting pitcher as he was back in 2008. The NL Central has four team tied for first (we, Cubs, Astros and Reds) with the Cardinals 1.5 games back. The upcoming three game home series against the Cubs promises some interesting action. According to our scouts their three best players are all relievers, but weren't the Cubs a slugging team last season? Let's hope they won't start swinging for the fences this weekend, as we send Rosario and Villanueva to the mound. Both are rumoured to give up a homerun here and there once in a while. The Cubs don't have a natural 1B on their active roster and hope outfielder Drew Rundle can get the job done. Injury Report: Milwaukee none Chicago 1B S. Moore (7 months) SS R. Chrinos (2 days) Game # 34 – Chicago (N) [18-15] (C. Zambrano 5-2, 2.74 ERA) at Milwaukee [18-15] (F. Manager and GM Fritsche 15th May 2010 The Pirates signed LF Jason Bay (.286, 13 HR, 23 RBI) to a new 5-year deal worth $87,050,000. We signed 1B Prince "Naughty Chow" Fielder (.250, 8 HR, 26 RBI, 5 SB) on a 5-year deal worth $ 49,500,000. I didn't expect him to accept our offer, but compared to Bay we got Fielder on a rather cheap price. Game # 35 – Chicago (N) [19-15] (R. Wells 4-3, 3.63 ERA) at Milwaukee [18-16] (C. Elsewhere: Angels SS Sean Rodriguez (.288, 5 HR, 15 RBI) will miss up to five weeks with a bruised knee. Yankees pinch hitter Jason Giambi (.308, 4 HR, 10 RBI) collected his 2000th career hit in a 17-6 win over Washington. The Yankees are nevertheless 8.0 games behind the Rays. |

May 2010 - Milwaukee Brewers
Manager and GM Fritsche 17th May 2010 A series win against the Cubs tastes always well. We are still tied with the Reds and Astros for first. Some things seem slowly to look better, but we still look power and more consistancy in the first innings. It's not impossible that we trade away some unhappy bench players for a young power bat in the outfield. Up next are our old playoff rivals from the desert, who share the same record with us. Injury Report: Milwaukee none Arizona SP J. Cruz (1 week) Game # 37 – Arizona [20-16] (K. Slowey 4-2, 4.24 ERA) at Milwaukee [20-16] (M. May 2010 - Milwaukee Brewers
Manager and GM Fritsche 20th May 2010 (Off day) Trade: We sent 3B Mike Lowell (.228, 0 HR, 6 RBI), minor league spot starter Vince Perkins (0-3, 7.82 ERA - AAA) and $250,000 in cash to the Pirates for minor leaguers OF Rajai Davis (.325, 2 HR, 11 RBI, 13 SB - AAA), Argentine starting pitcher José Bruno (2-4, 5.66 ERA - A) and starting pitcher Ed Sanders (2-0, 2.40 ERA - AA). After Mat Gamel (.337, 5 HR, 16 RBI) conquered 3B for good, Lowell's playing time was very limited and he became more and more unhappy. Mark Reynolds can easily occupy the backup function. In Davis we get another speedy outfielder (weren't we looking for more power) who could challenge the struggling Upton or replace one of the other outfielders in case of injury. The two prospects give us much needed starting pitching with potential in the minors. OF Kevin Reese (.222, 2 HR, 6 RBI) is sent down to Nashville to open a roster spot for Davis and Reynolds. Closer Manuel Corpas (0-3-11, 2.81 ERA) signs a new one year deal worth $3,170,000 with the Rockies. |
