Cards news: July 28 -- Trade lands 1B Coby Mayo from Baltimore for LHP Shane McClanahan
Looking to add a right-handed bat, the St. Louis Cardinals have acquired first baseman Coby Mayo from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for left-handed pitcher Shane McClanahan.
Mayo, 24, has split time between AAA Norfolk and the Orioles this season. In the majors, he has hit .282 with five home runs and 15 RBIs in 38 games/32 starts. In AAA, Mayo has played 56 games and hit .299 with 19 home runs and 46 RBIs. Selected in the fourth round of the 2020 draft by the Orioles, Mayo has played in 135 MLB games/118 starts during which he has hit .210 with 15 home runs and 59 RBIs. Mayo is currently dealing with a bruised shoulder and may not be available for a few days. Acquired in an off-season trade with Tampa Bay, the Cardinals hoped McClanahan could be part of their starting rotation after working out of the Rays' bullpen for a season following Tommy John surgery. But McClanahan struggled in the rotation and was not better in the bullpen. In 26 games/10 starts with St. Louis, McClanahan went 0-2 with two saves and a 5.48 ERA. |

Brito did spent time in the majors with San Francisco during the 2023 and 2024 season. In 121 games/97 starts, he hit .235 with seven homers, 39 RBIs and 38 runs scored.
