But overall, I agree with you. There isn't much that can help a team get over the hump. Err, unless you count Haren, which wouldn't be traded away.
Here's my thinking though:

Piazza will more than likely clear waivers. There are very few teams that could even give him a spot to play, let alone have a need. If not, I've got to assume that Piazza will AT LEAST qualify as a Type B FA. Seeing that he was a catcher last year, I'd think he stands a good chance at being a Type A. Hell, if Damian Miller is a Type A FA, Piazza's numbers are worthy of it as well.

Stewart is probably playing himself into Type B territory as well.

Kennedy is truly a bad pitcher, and nobody wanted him. He'll probably be nontendered anyway.

Keilty will probably be picked up by somebody needing a righty off the bench, but nobody was gonna give up value for him.

DJ sucks, and people are realizing that. I think Billy missed the boat on dealing him after his solid first 2 months this season.

In short, compensation picks and/or sandwich picks are probably more valuable than whatever Beane could have gotten for the guys on the block.

Yea, the left side of our infield has been depressing this year. Furmaniak will turn that around.

Fixed.

If Vlad could play the Rangers everday, we'd have our first .400 season in 66 years.

Joe Kennedy claimed off waivers by Arizona.

Buh-bye to another crappy player.

I actually went to today's game and it wasn't so bad. I mean, to win even though your team hit the ball hard *once* isn't so bad, right? The sun was shining on Houdini, err Blanton all day.

I could have if I wanted to. But I didn't.... I was having too much fun playing whiffle ball in the parking lot. There's nothing like a good tailgate, is there?

I still surprised that Billy couldn't get something for him. I mean, somebody took Kendall and I'd much rather have Kennedy on the team.
