Baylor Trades Fernandez for Arizona State's Gallen:
You can't always get what you want, but sometimes you find a deal anyway. The Baseball News Network is reporting that Baylor and Arizona State have made a swap with 27-year-old SS Tony Fernandez and $6,150,000 in cash being shipped to the Sun Devils and in return the Bears would get 30-year-old RHP Zac Gallen and 24-year-old LF Peanuts Lowrey. Baylor general manager Ray Whitson said the two sides were close to a blockbuster trade before agreeing upon a smaller scale transaction. "This is just a bit of housekeeping compared to what we wanted to do," he said. "I won't name names, but the potential deal we were close to making would have certainly grabbed some headlines." A source inside the Baylor organization said the two sides might not be done dealing, and another transaction could be in the works. Baylor will retain a portion of Fernandez's remaining contract. His all-time numbers show Fernandez has compiled a .312 batting average and collected 1356 hits, 63 home runs and 496 RBIs. In his 273-game career Gallen has been credited with 76 wins, 80 losses and 3 saves. His ERA stands at 3.98, and he has fired third strikes past 1212 batters in 1425.2 innings while giving up 476 walks. |

LSU Trades Fielder for Texas's Stahl:
Reports have surfaced that LSU has agreed to send 31-year-old RHP Braden Wigley and 24-year-old 1B Cecil Fielder to the Texas Longhorns in exchange for 31-year-old 1B Jake Stahl and $15,010,000 in cash. "It's a done deal," said one executive speaking on the condition of anonymity. "I'm surprised word got around so quickly. We just signed off on this an hour ago." The deal apparently is awaiting physicals before an official announcement is made by either team. Texas will retain a portion of Stahl's remaining contract. Looking at his career numbers, Stahl has played in 1339 games with a .254 batting average. Among his 1302 hits are 221 doubles, 27 triples and 357 home runs. He also has scored 832 runs and driven in 872 runs. |
