Palo Alto High School Vikings

Out of Palo Alto California. The Vikings have had a good share of success in their history, ranking as high as 40th nationally in 2011 with a 28-9 record, all while playing in one of the toughest conferences in California, let alone nationally. Palo Alto has produced 10 professional players, with 3 having MLB careers. Current Dodgers OF Joc Pederson played for this school.

Soquel High School Knights

Out of Soquel California. The Knights have produced 12 pro players, with 4 having MLB careers. The two MLB'ers whose names stood out to me were John Orton, who played catcher and was a 1st round pick for the California Angels in the late '80's early '90's, and Casey McGehee, who had his most success palying 3B for the Brewers from 2009-2011.

Bellarmine College Prep Bells

Out of San Jose California, Bellarmine is a CIF powerhouse program, producing top quality talent and winning baseball games. In fact, the Bells finished 33rd nationally in 2005, and proceeded to build on that success and post a 34-4 record in 2006, good for being ranked 7th overall nationally. 98 players have gone on to the next levels of baseball from this program, with 37 of them playing professionally, and 16 reaching the Majors. Erik Goeddel, Kevin Frandsen, Eric Thames and Pat Burrell are some notable names to have played for this school.

Aptos High School Mariners

Located in Aptos California, Aptos High serves the communities of Rio Del Mar, Corralitos, Seacliff, Seascape, La Selva Beach, Buena Vista and Watsonville. Their main rivals are the Soquel Knights. The Mariners have produced 11 professional players, with only one, P Carlos Torres, to have a MLB career.

Valley Christian High School Warriors

Located in San Jose California, Valley Christian is a non-denominational private Christian secondary school, whose motto is "Quest for Excellence". As a prep baseball program, they have had success in keeping to that motto, as #29 ranking nationally in 2007 followed up by a #10 ranking in 2008 shows. Since this schools founding in 1960, 27 players have gone onto play at the next levels, with 8 playing professionally.

Next up the other side of the Bay

Next up will be a group of teams created from the North Coast Section of CIF. This section covers the areas of Marin County north to the Oregon Border and the East Bay communities.

Alameda High School Hornets

Located in Alameda California, the Hornets have a long tradition of producing quality players. Out of the 17 players to play professionally from this school, 12 had Major League careers. Most of these players were from a bygone age, notably Dick Bartell and Duffy Lewis.

Out of San Leandro California, the Pirates have produced 10 pro players, with 5 of them reaching the Big League. 60's catcher Chris Cannizzaro had the longest career, spanning from 1960-1974.

Berkeley has a long tradition of producing players for the next levels of baseball, producing 47. 31 players have played professionally from this school, with 15 having MLB careers. The most famous alumni from this school include Augie Galan, Ruppert Jones and World Series Champion Manager Billy Martin.

Located in Oakland California, O'Dowd is a California Prep power. The Dragons ranked 17th nationally in 2005 with a 25-1 record. 13 players from this school have has professional careers, with 6 playing in MLB. Notable names from this school include Kevin Maas, Tyson Ross, Joe Ross, Ryan Drese and Greg Norton.

James Logan High School Colts

Out of Union City California. James Logan has had national success in the past, ranking 25th nationally in 1998 with a 25-3 record. The Colts have produced 28 players for the next levels of baseball, with 11 playing professionally. Their sole MLB rep is Aaron Ledesma.
