It's playoff time -- a time of glory and victory awaits one of the teams. The team that rises to each eventful occasion -- the team that makes all the right plays at the right time. NABL News: Draft Pool Revealed
Thursday, September 12th, 1935
One of the few things certain about the 1935 first-year player draft is that it will be held 30 days from now. Today the NABL announced its list of players filing for the event, though little is publicly known about any given player, sending scouts from each of the league's clubs scattering to uncover what they can in as little time as possible. Some clubs will draft the ideal prospect late, while others will stake their futures to big-name prospects, those deemed most likely to succeed by the fickle, nameless consensus.

The top players available (in no particular order) seem to be:
1. Jimmy Ripple, 25 year-old center fielder out of college.
2. Morrie Arnovich, 24 year-old left fielder out of college.
3. Babe Young, 20 year-old first baseman out of college.
4. Eddie Joost, 19 year-old second baseman out of high-school.
5. Johnny Lanning, 25 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
6. Joe DiMaggio, 20 year-old center fielder out of college.
7. Russ Bauers, 21 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
8. Bob Feller, 16 year-old starting pitcher out of high-school.
9. Johnny Mize, 22 year-old first baseman out of college.
10. Larry Rosenthal, 25 year-old center fielder out of college.

Hall of Fame
Turner Enshrined in HOF
Sunday, October 27th, 1935

One of the best players ever, right fielder Tuck Turner, has received the ultimate honor for a baseball player -- being inducted into the North American BaseBall League Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremony, which was held today, included tributes from his former teammates. One of them recognized his unparalleled work ethic, another his "naturally pure" swing, and yet another, his love for the game.

Turner received numerous awards during his playing days, but he said, nothing can compare to being enshrined into the Hall of Fame.

In a career spanning 2633 games, Turner batted .318 with 3293 hits, 72 home runs, 1653 RBIs and 1851 runs scored.

Mathewson Latest HOF Legend
Sunday, October 27th, 1935
The Baseball Writers Association has put the crowning touch on Christy Mathewson's outstanding baseball career. They put the great mound superstar in the North American BaseBall League Hall of Fame today.

He modestly gave credit to "better than average pitching skills and lots of three-run homers" for making it possible for him to move up into the legendary class of baseball players -- but the sportswriters, his teammates and peers knew differently.

In reality Mathewson was a craftsman, an artist. He was a perfectionist. He painted a ballgame stroke by stroke and when he got through pitching a game, it was a masterpiece.

By the time he retired, Mathewson fashioned an impressive record of 468-287, had an ERA of 2.68, struck out 2905 batters and held opposing teams to a .257 batting average. Mathewson made 813 mound appearances and worked 6787.1 innings in his career.

Washington Senators
Washington, Chicago Confirm Deal
Monday, January 13th, 1936

It's all done except the paperwork. The Washington Senators and the Chicago Cubs have agreed to a trade that will send 28-year-old reliever Josh Billings to Chicago, while 28-year-old minor league reliever Snipe Hansen will be shipped to Washington. A top front office executive with the Senators described the trade talks as "quick and easy." "We're glad to get this deal done. We think it's something that helps our ball club and it didn't take too long at all to sort this one out," he said.

During his career, Billings has appeared in 87 games and captured 3 saves. To date he has 15 wins, 18 losses, and a 3.69 ERA.

Hansen has appeared in 108 games in his career and claimed 2 saves. He has 35 wins and 38 losses and a 4.14 ERA with 163 strikeouts in 663.2 innings.

Veteran 3B Monroe Settles on Senators
Saturday, February 15th, 1936

John Monroe might be in the twilight of his career, but he is not going to leave the stage before the final act. Today the 37-year-old scribbled his signature on a $12,960-a-year deal with the Senators.

Some fans openly questioned the signing, saying they would prefer the club use its resources on younger talent.

In his career Monroe has played in 1683 games, batted .280 with 76 home runs and 1650 base hits.

Pitcher: Dizzy Dean (New York Yankees)
Catcher: Bill Dickey (Philadelphia Athletics)
First Baseman: Chubby Dean (Detroit Tigers)
Second Baseman: Tony Cuccinello (Washington Senators)

Hall of Fame
Legends Welcome St.Vrain to HOF
Sunday, November 22nd, 1936

For quite a few seasons Jim St.Vrain unnerved batters as one of the best pitchers around. Yesterday it was his day for the jitters. The talented twirler became a baseball immortal as he was enshrined into the North American BaseBall League Hall of Fame.

"This is overwhelming, over the top. I can't put into words what this means," St.Vrain told the crowd that had gathered to honor him as baseball's newest legend. "You don't get to the Hall of Fame by yourself. I got here with the help of some great teammates, coaches and managers. One of the greatest lessons I learned was how to pitch from a hitter's perspective. That's when I became a better-than-average big league pitcher."

Sunday, September 12th, 1937
The speculation as to who will be the number one pick can now officially begin. Earlier today, North American BaseBall League published its list of players eligible for the annual rookie draft. For the next thirty days, scouts will be busy studying this untested talent in order to come up with a list of names to recommend that their clubs pursue. But just who those picks will be won't be known until the draft is conducted next month.

The top players available (in no particular order) seem to be:
1. Sam Chapman, 21 year-old center fielder out of college.
2. Lou Boudreau, 20 year-old shortstop out of college.
3. Vance Page, 31 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
4. Enos Slaughter, 21 year-old right fielder out of college.
5. Joe Krakauskas, 22 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
6. Mort Cooper, 24 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
7. Earle Brucker, 36 year-old catcher out of college.
8. Benny McCoy, 21 year-old second baseman out of college.
9. Taffy Wright, 26 year-old right fielder out of college.
10. George Myatt, 23 year-old third baseman out of college.
