Ah. Hopefully a precautionary thing then. Broken hands can take a really long time to heal. I know it's just natural instincts, but I wish pitchers wouldn't do this. Felix Hernandez did the same thing on Sunday and then walked around for a few minutes shaking his hand before resuming the game.

After it happened Kendall went out and talked to him and you could see Harden mouthing, "I'm fine," and he went on to pitch to two batters. I would think if it was broken, he certainly would've known it and not tried to stay in the game.

B-Cro with 2-run shot as I typed this! 4-3!

Johnson just tied the game with a homer. Can the A's put some runs across other than a homer?

Dear Buck,

Please keep Cordero in for the 10th. We heart him.

Love and kisses,
Kelly

EDIT: I didn't realize it was already the 9th.

Big Frank, Crosby, and Johnson all with multi-hit games!

Win or lose, that's a really positive sign.

Ugh. It had nothing to do with his hand.

I get back spasms semi-frequently. They're not fun, but worse, they're really unpredictable. Let's hope this doesn't become a bigger issue.

Damn it. The Rangers announcers were speculating about that and I was hoping they were wrong.

God... Dan Johnson finally decided he should take a bat up to the plate with him i guess the last couple of nights! Sucks that Harden got taken out, but hopefully nothing is wrong with him.... at least we improve to 10-12 tho!

I hope he's right...

From Will Carroll at Baseball Prospectus today:
Quote:
The A’s have their share of pitching problems right now, testing the depth that Billy Beane and his staff have put together. Rich Harden left yesterday’s start with back spasms in the fourth inning, a problem Harden has never had (or at least never had so severely that it became public). The severity was downplayed after the game and sources tell me that the spasms were “minor.” Harden, I’m told, was removed as a precaution. “You saw what happened with his shoulder last year. [The A’s] weren’t going to let his mechanics go out of whack because his back stiffened up.” Harden is not expected to miss his next start, but this will depend on his response to treatment.
And about that other guy:
Quote:
The team is also hoping to get Esteban Loaiza back in the rotation this week, either Saturday or Sunday.
Excellent. Get him in against K.C.

And about that hot guy:
Quote:
Huston Street also threw in the bullpen without any problems. Assuming he comes to the park today with no undue soreness in his chest, he should be available this weekend.

GOOD NEWS! Let's get our whole pitching staff back together.... I'd say the most important one is Harden though, because I think Loaiza and Street are both replaceable.... not saying that Street isn't a good pitcher, but we have some other guys who could fill in and get the job done if need be!

Sure, someone else can close. But then that guy's spot is vacated. Street being out creates a domino effect on the bullpen. And nobody will do the job as well as he will.

And you have to remember, Witasick is out too. He probably would be getting some of the spots Halsey/Saarloos are getting. The sooner Street is back, the better. I like Calero/Duke/Kennedy in the 7th and 8th, not the 9th.
