I have to make another file with 25-30 players each from 18 countries, all within the league...which just adds insult to injury.

Yes, no, yes. If you see what I mean. Yes to H-S Choi and Chan Ho Park, but no to S-Y Lee, because he's from the Korean League. But now you've reminded me, I will do so (and probably have him "defect" afterwards as well).

Here's the roster (ignore the Korean League bit):
Korea Roster (9)
Pitchers (1 SP, 4 MR)
Jung Bong (Korean League)
Byung-Hyun Kim (TOR)
Sun-Woo Kim (COL)
Chan Ho Park (STL)
Jae-Kuk Ryu (NYY)
Jae-Weong Seo (Korean League)
Seung Song (SF)

Infielders (1 1B)
Hee-Seop Choi (NYY)

Outfielders (1 CF)
Shin-Soo Choo (SEA)

I have been there before but had forgotten about it. Although I quickly remembered going there a long time ago, as I remembered the pages loading so slowly.

And the Serie Nacional stats are there. Under XLV Serie Nacional on the right of the front page, click on Estadisticas.

To choose the players is really tough for me as well. Not only have I got to put any bias towards certain players (good and bad) to one side, for some of the teams they have barely enough players to fill a 28-man roster, so I have to go through the .csv file to hunt them down, by country, by position.

I let members of the league run each country...and I have each player and their age saved by country in an .xls file.

Baseball World Cup 2008 rosters set!

As the title says, the inaugural Baseball World Cup rosters have been finalised and you can view them by going to the website: sdpm100.tripod.com/BWC2008

In the tests, it looks very competitive, and I'm not lying when I say any of the ten teams could qualify, although Cuba, Dominican Republic, and the USA are looking very strong.

Top 3 qualify for the knockout round. 2nd in one group plays 3rd in the other in each quarter-final, with the winners playing the winners of each group in the semi-finals.

I know, I should have had it like the old Olympic hockey format where all the teams qualify.

But seriously, it rewards the team's who finish top of each group by giving them a bye to the semi-final.

Baseball World Cup 2008 - Opening Day!
Venezuela 7, Mexico 6 (10 innings)
The opening day of the inaugural Baseball World Cup started at Cracker Jack Stadium in Orlando, with Pool A action between Mexico and Venezuela.
Oliver Perez took the mound for Mexico, whilst Carlos Zambrano pitched for Venezuela.

The Venezuelans took the lead in the bottom of the 1st, which was started by Jose Lopez singling, before he stole second with Magglio Ordonez at the plate, and then reached third on a throwing error by Mexican catcher Miguel Ojeda on a second steal attempt by the third baseman.
After Ordonez was issued a free pass by Perez, Bobby Abreu drove the ball into right for an RBI single, which scored Lopez for the historic first ever run at the BWC.
In the third, second baseman Ismael Salas got Mexico right into the game with a RBI triple off Zambrano, before scoring on Alfredo Amezaga’s sac-fly to give his team a 2-1 lead. But Venezuela stormed back into the lead by scoring two runs in the 4th inning on Luis Jimenez’s 2-RBI double, and after hitting a leadoff triple, Miguel Cabrera made it 4-2 in the 5th.

But even if they aren’t the strongest team, Mexico sure know how to fight, and they responded from falling behind, by coming up in the top of the 6th, and scored three runs of their own.
Erubiel Durazo’s single was followed by Nomar Garciaparra’s double, and after Zambrano intentional walked Cosme Arias to load up the bases, Adrian Gonzalez tied the game on a single to centerfield, which scored Durazo and Garciaparra.
And Mexico retook the lead when Arias tagged up from third on Ojeda’s fly-out to leave the score at 5-4.
After a hitless seventh inning, Mexico was getting ever closer to a surprise victory. But that was until Jose Lopez hit an 8th inning RBI single off reliever Arturo Lopez that scored Victor Martinez, which with a scoreless 9th inning meant the opening game went into extra innings at 5-5.

Mexico’s 10th inning looked like it might be enough. Durazo led off with a double, and although Arias drove into a double play, Adrian Gonzalez also hit a double off Francisco Rodriguez that scored pinch runner Manuel Lira to give the Mexicans a 6-5 lead.
But with two outs in the bottom of the 10th and one runner on, Cesar Izturis reached base on an infield-hit and when Magglio Ordonez clubbed an Antonio Osuna fastball almost over the fence in left-center, both Martin Prado and then Izturis came across the plate to give the Venezuelans a 7-6 win.

Cuba 5, Puerto Rico 2
A Cuban team that was picked without any political pressures won a tough opening game against Puerto Rico.

However, with the game going into the 8th inning, PR actually led as Michel Enriquez’s double that drove in Frederich Cepeda in the 3rd, had been overhauled by back-to-back homers off Cuban starter Yadel Marti in the 6th from Felipe Lopez and Cesar Crespo.

However, Yuliesky Gourriel’s double to lead off the inning finally ended PR starter JC Romero, and the Cubans got stuck into reliever Joel Pineiro.
First Osmani Urrutia singled into left field and scored Gourriel to tie the game at 2, much to the Cuban bench’s relief.
Urrutia tagged up on a fly-out to reach third, and after Yoennis Cespedes was intentional walked, Pineiro faced what would be his last batter, as catcher Eriel Sanchez dispatched a pitch a long way over the centerfield wall at Cracker Jack Stadium, counting three runs and giving Cuba a winning lead at 5-2.

I like the format, I thought youd conform to the OOTP ways, but you didnt and thats a good thing.

TY.
The only problem is that the standings page will look a bit odd when we get to the knockout round, but at least all the stats will be counted through all the rounds like in a RL tournament.

Uh no, you were the one that did and I corrected you in post 622.
I said he didn't play for the Marlins in my world, but the Rockies, and he was on the Venezuelan team list as an outfielder.

Baseball World Cup, Day 2
United States 9, Korea 1
The “All-Star” USA line-up got off to the best possible start by easing to a 9-1 defeat of Korea as Pool B play got underway in Scottsdale.
Vernon Wells drove in both Kevin Mench and Alex Rodriguez on a double in the 2nd, before James McElroy’s double in the 3rd scored Jonny Gomes and Eric Chavez to make it 4-0.
Mike Sweeney’s homer in the 5th, was added to by Wells again driving in Rodriguez in the 6th, which came after A-Rod had hit a triple off Korean starter Chan Ho Park.
Park gave up six runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings of work.

Jin-Hyung Kim did get Korea on the board in the 7th when USA starter Adam Wainwright gave up his only run of the day (on seven hits with five strikeouts) as Nun-Hel Bak drove a double down the left field line. But the Americans made the score even more comfortable in the 9th, when they scored three more runs through Brian Schneider on a Chavez bases loaded force-out, and McElroy taking his RBI tally for the day to four when his double over the shortstop counted both Gomes and Chavez to make it 9-1.
The confident Americans get off to the best start possible, but they face another favourite in the Dominican Republic next, whilst the Netherlands, playing their first game, will be the opponent for the Koreans.

Canada 4, Dominican Republic 1
One of the pre-tournament favourites found their path to Baseball World Cup glory temporarily blocked in their first game.
Canada took the lead in the 2nd inning through Scott Thorman’s RBI double that scored Thomas Zalcberg, before the Dominican Republic tied up the game in the 3rd when Vladimir Guerrero hit a two out single off Canadian starter Ryan Dempster which allowed Wily Mo Pena to race home from second base to make it 1-1.

That’s how it stayed all the way through to the 7th inning, where Canadian third baseman Matt Rogelstad became the hero for the Canucks, when he clubbed a two out, two on fastball from Cy Young winner Pedro Martinez down the right field line for a homerun, to leave the Dominican’s shocked, and his fellow Canadian teammates amazed.
DR went 1-2-3 to Dempster in the bottom of the 7th, and after reliever Jesse Crain repeated the punishment in the 8th, Eric Gagne came out in the 9th to close the game, and although gave up a leadoff hit to Adan Torres, got Carlos Pena to ground out, before David Ortiz and Adrian Beltre hit back-to-back fly-outs to end the game.
An amazing win for Canada over one of the pre-tournament favourites, and with it they now already have one foot in the knockout round. For DR, they should still qualify with ease from the group, but the loss shows some weaknesses that the other teams didn’t think they had.

I didn't see it coming either. I think the USA may be the team that DR takes the loss out on.

Baseball World Cup, Day 3
Puerto Rico 5, Mexico 3
Four runs in the first three innings proved enough for Puerto Rico to win their first game of the Baseball World Cup, 5-3 over Mexico.

Cesar Crespo’s home run off Mexican starter Edgar Gonzalez started the ball rolling in the 1st, and after Carlos Beltran backed it up by following with a triple, tagged up on Luis Matos fly-out to make it 2-0 after one.

Yadier Molina went round three bases on Ramon Egea’s two out double in the 2nd, and although Cosme Arias and Adrian Gonzalez hit back-to-back doubles in the bottom half (scoring Arias for 3-1), Crespo hit his second homer in two at bats, when he hit a leadoff blast down the left field line off Gonzalez to give Puerto Rico what proved the game winning run, and a 4-1 lead.

Gonzalez hit a second double in the 4th to score Nomar Garciaparra, but no sooner had Mexico cut the deficit to two runs had Puerto Rico extended the lead back up to three runs when Beltran hit an RBI single which scored Egea on second.

Garciaparra hit out of the park in the 8th off reliever Pedro Diaz – after PR starter Orlando Roman had got nine strikeouts and gave up just two runs on four hits in 6 ⅓ innings, but it was all too late for Nomar and Mexico, who at 0-2 are staring first round elimination in the face, especially with games against Cuba and Japan ahead – the two tournament favourites from Pool A.
