1967 Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight Replay
01/16/67 Monday
London, England Des Cox – HW (1-0-0) vs. Doyle Brown – HW (2-0-0) Cox was rated and posted sometime earlier. Doyle Brown Rating 1 Heavyweight 1966-68 4 wins / 7 losses / 0 draws / 3 KO Alias: Tony Brown? Hometown/Birthplace: Watford, England Local fighter around London for two years in 1966-68. Beat Jim McIlvaney(13-12-3,8), lost to Des Cox(9-1-0,4), Phil Watford(13-2-1,4), Dennis Avoth(22-21-3,4), and Terry Daly(16-3-0,13), while beating and loosing once each to Len Rocky James(10-15-1,5) as far as opponents go with any kind of career to them. The fight..... Two young local heavies meet up in this one in London, Lefty Des Cox from Shoreditch and Watford local Doyle Brown. The 6 round affair in 1967 ended in a decision victory for Cox. Neither of theses fighters lasted very long in the boxing scene here in England each lasting only a couple years before bowing out to undertake some other professions. Our modern day rematch ended up a bit of a surprise upset. In play testing of Brown, Cox, whom I’d rated some time ago pretty consistently handled Brown so I was expecting some semblance of repeat of what transpired back in 1967. Not so, Brown controlled the fight throughout for the most part. He never managed to put Cox to the canvas but he scored punches at better then a 3 to 1 ratio to what Cox could land. Cox’s one moment of glory so to speak came in the 3rd round when with only about ½ minute to go in a pretty inactive round that Brown still showed ahead on, Cox managed to sneak in a hard body punch that took Brown down to the matt!! Brown quickly recovered and was up in a 3 count though. It was kind of interesting that two of the judges scored that round 10-8 Cox, conventional scoring wisdom I guess with the knockdown, but, one judge did score it only 10-9 Cox with the point count still ending up very close only 9-7 in Cox’s favor. I think that judge had it right. Another round I question judges scoring was the 2nd. Cox actually did lead this round for the first couple of minutes by a close 9-8 point count, but then Brown then drives in a crushing right to Cox’s jaw and follows up with a some more good jabs in the last seconds of the round to finish ahead 17-9. Yet, one judge still scores it 10-9 Cox! Despite all that though it ends as a Unanimous Decision win for Brown 59-55, 58-55, 57-56(the judge that gave the 2nd to Cox). |

1967 Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight Replay
01/16/67 Monday
Den Haag, The Netherlands Jan Lubbers – HW (4-0-2) vs LHW Francis Dupuy (3-4-0) Dupuy was posted earlier in this replay... Jan Lubbers, Netherlands, Rating 1 Heavyweight 1965-77 28 wins / 13 losses / 2 draws / 10 KO Hometown: Haarlem, NH Manager: Henk Ruhling Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto Lubbers' career kind of jumped itself around between HW and LHW opponents. Predominently I would class him into the HW catagory. His career started out a shinning 27-1-2 with 10KO's. Granted it was against the usual mostly also ran local fighters. Some guys he fought in this time who we've seen in the game now, Julien Van Mechelen he drew with in his first career fight. Later Lubbers defeated Francis Dupuy, Jose Peyre, Henry Ferjules twice, and Christian Poncelet. Then in June 1972, he fought Chris Finnegan for the European (EBU) Light Heavyweight Title. Finnegan KO'd Lubbers in the 8th round. It was the beginning of the tailspin of Lubbers'career which saw it nosedive into a 2-12-0 record over the next 4 years. The competition got a lot tougher. Kosie Smith decisioned him in 10, Jose Manuel Urtain beat him twice, Bernd August KO'd him in 2. He lost a 10 round decision to Jean-Pierre Coopman. In April 1976 he fought Hennie Thoonen for the Dutch Heavyweight Title. The fight lasted to the 10th when Thoonen then knocked out Lubbers. Jan followed that loss with a 10 round decision loss to Poncelet and then finished his career when Sjimmy Verstappen KO'd him in the 2nd round in February 1977. The fight...... Dupuy is coming off a 6 round UD loss to Guy Pinault about a week ago. Lubbers, after winning his first fight in January 1965, he then had not fought for about a year. In 1966 though he’d climbed into the ring 5 times. Winning 4 and drawing 1. His last fight, back in mid-November was an 8 round decision victory over Toribio Penalva. The meeting in Den Haag in 1967 ended with Lubbers stopping Dupuy in the 4th round. Our replay here, a scheduled 8 rounder, assuming that the length of the fight, turned out a pretty boring affair. Very little action at all with Lubbers doing the bulk of the little work in the fight. In only 2 rounds was more then 9 points scored by a fighter, that being Lubbers in the 1st round 10-4 and in the 5th outscoring Dupuy 15-5. There was a 6-3 2nd, 6-5 3rd, 9-5 4th, 4-1 6th, 9-2 7th and 5-0 8th! It was a UD win for Lubbers. Not sure how much of the crowd was still there or awake to see the judges scoring which was 79-73 on all 3 cardss. Last edited by Rocco Del Sesto; 10-02-2004 at 12:51 AM. |

Hello,
New poster but I've been downloading and enjoying all of the boxer ratings and photos everyone has provided on the forum. I love the game and you definitely get a lot for your money compared to other sports sims. I plan to start doing some of my own ratings soon but until then I want to finish editing the ones I've downloaded. Can anyone help me with the following boxers? I read bios on this thread on these two and created them but could not find working downloads of them so are they still "unrated"? Prentice Snipes Jack Larson The following list I have ratings/files for but cannot seem to find them on Boxing Records or anywhere else. Does anyone have any info. on them - are their names misspelled? I put them in an "unknown" group that created for now. Eagle Akakura (male SW, even have a photo for him) Aicheria Bell (female MW) Ho-Choi Chang (male FLYW) Janae Romero (female LW) Pamela Sepulvado (female JWW) Thanks, Mark G. |

Ruslan "White Tyson" Chagaev
-- I want to see more of this guy. Very fast paced slugger with above average power, he didn't get the nickname "white tyson" for nothing.
-- Knocked out Felix Savon as an amatuer. 12-0-1 10 KOs The Draw was against Rob Colloway. Colloway was out on his feet when the rignside doctor stepped in and stopped the first from an ealier headbutt. It was in the third round, so it goes in the books as a tech draw. MJ

Three Alis
The Louisville Lip is the one who defeated Sonny Liston. I have renamed that one Cassius Clay for clarity.
The Greatest appears to be the one who fought Leon Spinks twice. I don't use him for anything. The 15-rated Ali is the one who defeated George Foreman. The best way to reply to me is to use my email address lfbno7@aol.com since I don't often visit here. |

1967 Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight Replay
01/16/67 Monday
Washington, DC, USA Bob Foster – LHW (22-4-0) vs. Jim Robinson – LHW (23-7-1) Jim Robinson - USA Rating 3 Light Heavyweight 1953-62,66-67 23 wins / 8 losses / 1 draw / 15 KO Hometown: Philadelphia, PA Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto From Sept 1953 thru Feb. 1958, Robinson put together a 17-2-1 record with 12 KO's with a 14-0-1 in the last 15 fights. He'd KO'd his opponent in 8 of the last 9 fights with one, 10 round UD over Milo Savage mixed in. Some other fights of note in that span were victories over Cortez Stewart, Frankie Anselm, Phil Saxton, Clinton Bacon and Joe Shaw. His 2 losses were a 3rd round DQ to Phil Rizzo and an 8 round decision to Lino Armenteros. Then in June 1958 he was KO'd in the 4th round in a fight against middleweight George Benton. That was the start to a 5-5-0 skid you could say over the next 4 years. He managed wins over Ernie Knox, and Floyd McCoy as far as guys with records of any note, but lost fights to Von Clay by 4th round KO, Kid Alfonso by 1st round KO, a 4 round decision loss to a Willie Taylor and then in October 1962 he was knockout in the 9th round by Ernie Knox. Robinson at that point then did not step back into the ring for almost 4 years. In August 1966 Robinson started out on a comeback attempt. He won a small 4 round affair against Billy Wynter in a fight staged in Gothenburg, Sweden of all places after having fought his previous entire career in the states, much of it around Philadelphia. Then on January 16, 1967 Robinson got his one big chance in the ring, up against LHW great Bob Foster in Washington DC. Well, Bob didn't let Robinson's comeback continue on any further as he KO'd Robinson in the 1st round sending him into permanent retirement. The fight..... In December 1965, the great Light heavyweight, Bob Foster had taken on his latest attempt to venture up into the Heavyweight division by taking on Zora Folley in 10 round heavyweight bout in New Orleans. Foster and Folley battled it out for 10 rounds before Foster left the arena with a loss. Even though at this time Foster was the 3rd ranked LHW by Ring Magazine, he had yet to attain his true stardom in the fight arena and this latest attempt for success in the top paying, glamour division of boxing left Foster deciding to take some time off and rethink his career. Over the next year after his defeat to Folley, Foster decided to rededicate himself to the Light Heavyweight division. He spent time training around the Washington DC area and finally on December 6th, 1966, fully 1 year after the Folley fight Foster climbed back into the ring against LeRoy Green (20-21-3) a LHW who was at the end of his career. Foster KO’d Green in the 2nd round. This set up Foster’s next fight a little more then a month later against another veteran LHW, Jim Robinson. Robinson, was trying to stage a comeback of his own having been out of the ring for about 4 years before climbing back in in August 1966 to win a 4 round affair. Robinson was then given the chance to take a shot at the rising star of the Light Heavies, Bob Foster. The fight in January 1967 did not last long. Robinson was apparently just totally overmatched and most likely should have not taken the Foster fight if he’d wanted to try and keep his career going longer. Foster KO’d Robinson in the 1st round and sent him into permanent retirement. For Foster it was the 2nd of 7 straight winning fights in 1967, 6 by knockout that would lead up to his WBA/WBC LHW Title Fight in May 1968 against Dick Tiger. Our replay for this 1967 bout between Foster and Robinson, I wasn’t too sure how many rounds to schedule it. I decided I’d go with 8 rounds. Would this kind of fight deserved to go 8 rounds?! It didn’t really matter though as the out come of our replay was pretty much like what the real thing must have been like. About 20 seconds into round 1, Foster lands with a quick, short uppercut. Then about 1 minute into the round, Foster throws a wild overhand right that lands flush and drops Robinson onto one knee taking a short 5 count. With Robinson looking hurt, Foster closes in landed another short uppercut and then works Robinson’s body with a solid hook. Then at about the 2 minute mark, Foster lands another solid hook that stuns Robinson, but Jim somehow manages to stay up. Foster continues to press connecting a cross and then a hard jab. Then at 2:47 of the 1st, Foster drops Robinson to the canvas for a 2nd time in the round with a crushing body punch! 1…2…3…It’s over! At 2:57 of the 1st round, Jim Robinson is counted out. KO victory for Bob Foster! |

1967 Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight Replay
Sorry...nothing new to give you with this fight, just a refight between a couple guys we met earlier in this replay.
01/16/67 Washington DC, USA Rudy Brown Holliday – HW (2-2-0) vs. Bill Hardney – HW (4-1-1) These two fought a week earlier in this same city with Hardney taking a 6 round UD. Hilites of that fight can be seen earlier in this 1967 replay along with both fighters ratings. In boxrec. There’s a ? as to what the length of this fight is. Hardney wins another decision as he did in their first fight in 1967. I would assume this fight would have been 6 rounds also. Can’t see any reason why it would be otherwise. Our 2nd replay of 1967 between these two fighters is much the same as the first fight. Hardney controls most of the action throughout the fight landing just enough punches here and there to slowing outscore Holliday. Outscoring he needed to do as neither fighter exhibited much punching prowess to send anyone down for a 10 count. In the end it was another unanimous decision for Hardney just as in our first replay. The scores being 58-56, 59-55, 59-55. |
