1941 All-Star Game results

July 8th, 1941, Ebbets Field

Fletcher Dominates in 8-3 Win over AL All-Stars
There's a whole lot of pride on the line when the best baseball players throughout Major League Baseball gather for the all-star game.
It was no different this year, as the NL bested the AL by a score of 8-3, in a spirited contest played at Ebbets Field.
"It might be a little lower intensity than the regular season or playoffs, but everyone in that clubhouse still wants to win this game," said Elbie Fletcher of the NL, who was named the game MVP.

All-Star Game MVP: 1B Elbie Fletcher (Pittsburgh Pirates)

1941 World Series: St. Louis Browns vs. St. Louis Cardinals

Results

Game 1, October 1st, 1941, Sportsman's Park
Browns Hammered by Rizzo, Drop Game 1 to Cardinals
When the games really matter, the St. Louis Cardinals put on their best show, beating the St. Louis Browns by a final score of 5-0. Johnny Rizzo went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. St. Louis now leads St. Louis 1-0 in the best-of-7 affair.
In the top of the second, with the game still scoreless, Rizzo hit a run-scoring single to put his team in the lead.
Browns manager John Happenny did not take questions after the game, telling assembled reporters that he would hold a press conference "if and when we win the World Series."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Sportsman's Park in St. Louis.
Cardinals lead series 1-0

Game 2, October 2nd, 1941, Sportsman's Park
Raucous Sportsmans Park Crowd Propels Browns to 5-2 Victory; Series Tied at 1
Behind a bravura effort from starter Max Lanier, the St. Louis Browns topped the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 5-2 and got their first win in the 1941 World Series. Lanier threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball for the Browns. The win moves St. Louis into a 1-1 tie with St. Louis.
Heinie Mueller dealt the Cardinals a blow in the bottom of the fourth. Batting with runners on 1st and 2nd and St. Louis leading 1-0, Mueller, who finished 5th in the AL in triples with 12 in 1938, hit a 0-1 slider for a 2-run double.
"Things broke our way today and that's great," Browns manager John Happenny said. "It's important, though, to stay focused and not pat yourself on the back too much. We aren't done yet."
Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at Sportsman's Park in St. Louis.
Series tied 1-1

Game 3, October 4th, 1941, Sportsman's Park
Road Win Lifts St. Louis to 2-1 Lead in WS
Riding the 2-hit performance of shortstop Bill Lillard, the St. Louis Browns got a road win against the St. Louis Cardinals, 10-1, in Game 3 of the World Series. Lillard went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Browns, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 2 games to 1.
Enos Slaughter, who finished 2nd in the AL in hits with 198 in 1939, aided the St. Louis cause with a run-scoring walk in the top of the fifth. For the game, the right fielder drew 1 walk in 5 trips to the plate.
"We're one game closer to our goal," St. Louis manager John Happenny said later. "It isn't any more complicated than that."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Sportsman's Park in St. Louis.
Browns lead series 2-1

Game 4, October 5th, 1941, Sportsman's Park
Cardinals Clip Browns, 5-4, in WS Contest
The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the St. Louis Browns, 5-4, in Game 4 of the World Series. Making an impact was shortstop Jimmy Pofahl, who was 1 for 1 with a double and 3 walks, while scoring 3 times. The win moves St. Louis into a 2-2 tie with St. Louis in the series.
Tied up with the Browns in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Cardinals got a boost from first baseman Frank McCormick. With runners on 1st and 2nd, McCormick saw a 2-2 curveball from Joe Sullivan and hit a run-scoring double to break the stalemate and put St. Louis on top, 4-3.
"There's nothing like the postseason," said Pofahl, "to ramp up the pressure."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Sportsman's Park in St. Louis.
Series tied 2-2

Game 5, October 6th, 1941, Sportsman's Park
Road Win Lifts St. Louis to 3-2 Lead in WS
Game 5 was big. So was Tex Hughson.
The St. Louis starter rose to the occasion at Sportsmans Park, leading the Browns to a crucial 9-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. Hughson threw 9.0 innings of shutout ball as the Browns won on the road to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 World Series.
In his 111-pitch effort, Hughson allowed no runs on 4 hits over 9 innings. He walked 2 and struck out 1.
"We don't have much margin for error now," Cardinals manager Bob Peterson said. "We need to figure out the problem and fix it, immediately."
Game 6 is scheduled for Wednesday at Sportsman's Park in St. Louis.
Cardinals lead series 3-2

Game 6, October 8th, 1941, Sportsman's Park
Browns Beat Cardinals in World Series
The St. Louis Browns were good enough to get past the St. Louis Cardinals at Sportsmans Park today and secure the 6th championship in franchise history.
"When you wear Browns on your shirt, you're good at something," St. Louis skipper John Happenny told the press.
Browns second baseman Heinie Mueller was named MVP of the series after he went .385 with 1 home run and 9 runs batted in.
"It feels totally incredible," Mueller said. "I could live to 1,000 years old and I'd remember this moment."
The new champions capped off a great season with a 8-3 victory over the Cardinals to win the World Series 4-2.
Browns win series 4-2

World Series MVP: 2B Heinie Muller (St. Louis Browns)

1942 All-Star Game results

July 6th, 1942, Braves Field

DiMaggio Dominates in 6-2 Win over AL All-Stars
Joe DiMaggio cemented his status as one of the best in the game with his performance tonight.
"It's an honor to even be invited to the game. To be rewarded as the MVP of the game is extra special," the NL star said after his great showing. "Just playing on the same diamond as some of these guys is a pure treat."
In the game itself, Joe DiMaggio certainly wasn't the only great player out there, but he did enough in the NL's 6-2 win over the AL All-Stars.

All-State Game MVP: CF Joe DiMaggio (St. Louis Cardinals)
