The St. Louis Cardinals have traded veteran catcher Mike Zunino to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for 1B/OF Christin Stewart.
An off-season pickup, Zunino had spent the bulk of the season before being called to the majors following an injury to catcher Sean Murphy
Zunino, 33, got into four games while with the Cardinals, batting .286 with two RBIs.
When Murphy returned from the injured list, Zunino refused to return to AAA Memphis demanding a trade.
In 35 games with the Redbirds, Zunino had hit .153 wth 10 homers and 19 RBIs.
Stewart, 30, has spent the 2024 season at AAA Wochester, where he has hit .304 with 17 homers and 36 RBIs in 51 games/46 starts.
He does have 157 games of major league experience, most of them with Detroit, during which he has hit .225 with 15 homers and 59 RBIs.
To make room on the St. Louis roster, outfielder Aaron Hicks has been sent back to AAA.
He will have to pass through waivers first.

The St. Louis Cardinals have traded veteran outfielder Aaron Hicks in exchange for left-handed relief pitcher Jeff Singer.
The trade was arranged after Hicks, 34, refused a demotion back to AAA Memphis after a brief time in the majors.
Hicks batted .250 in four games with the Cardinals.
He had hit .215 with three homers and 16 RBIs in 42 games/37 starts with the Redbirds.
Singer, 30, was on the roster of AAA Las Vegas at the time of the trade.
He has pitched in 19 games for the Aviators this season, all in relief, going 3-1 with a 6.23 ERA.
In the majors, Singer got into 19 games for the A's posting a 3-1 record with a 6.23 ERA.
For his career, Singer has worked in 60 games/1 start for Oakland, owned a 3-10 record with a 5.67 ERA.
Singer will be assigned to AAA Memphis.
