The MLB has just announced Robinson Cano will be suspended without pay for the 2021 season after testing positive for Stanozolol a PED. This will be his second PED related suspension.

I guess we will see a lot more of Guillorme and Gimenez next year

Robinson Cano has been suspended for the entire 2021 season without pay. Busted for Stanozolol.

Holy smokes. That's $24 million dollars! Is he out of his mind or is he so rich already that this is a mere pittance to him?

I don't know. The only adjective I can come up with right now is "dense".

Actually, what was it? $17m on the Mets and $7m on the Mariners, annually? That should still buy a player we can actually use.

The article that I read earlier says the Mets may go after DJ LeMahieu now.

I am still so disturbed by the Mets signing Cano in the first place, I can't fully sort out my response, and then he seemed to find some youth this past mini-season, but alas we now know how that came about.

So my reaction is basically suspicion, annoyance, and most of all RELIEF!

Yes.... free money for the team !.... let's get Bauer !

Typical Mets move. Address everything but the glaring holes.

We have enough people to fill out the infield three times. Pete and Dom Smith. McNeil and that bum Rosario and Andres Gimenez (Gimme Gimenez!!). J.D. Davis if you're generous.

Mets direly need:
- starting pitching (Bauer)
- centerfielder (Springer)
- catcher (Realmuto)

A second/third baseman type is a distant fourth in the list. Very, very distant.

Not listing relievers here. Everybody always needs relievers. They're a given, like oxygen.

Well, there goes Cano's chance at making it into the Hall of Fame. I mean, if cheaters like Bonds and Clemens can't make it in, Cano should have no chance. Bonds and Clemens did it during an era where Baseball turned a blind eye. Cano did it in an era where Baseball has a laser focus.

For Kelenic and Dunn no less. Its no wonder the Mets have one of the weaker farm systems.

I believe Guillorme is still an option as well and he almost exclusively played second. There is really not a lack of depth there, although none of them can hit like LeMahieu. If he was signed they could use some of their infield depth for trade instead of robbing the farm.

Funny. Just yesterday I read that Guillorme is always the forgotten man on the Mets infield.

Then I promptly forgot about him.

Btw, Boom-Boom Diaz was also in the dastardly Cano deal that has ruined our lives forever.

I wonder what an OOTP assistant GM would have told Brodie about that one. "This does not look like a good deal to me, maybe we should ask for a prospect."

Most articles are suggesting that McNeil would slot in well at second as its his natural position freeing up the Mets to focus on Centerfield and Catcher as well as right handed hitting. Everything I've read has hailed this as good news for the Mets.

McNeil is *fine* at second base. Defense is not why we love him in the first place. Sorta like Murph in the olden days.

"This looks like a stupid deal. Note the other GM's stupid grin."

"This looks like a trade the commissioner can't help but veto."

"This trade is so bad for us, the Post will have a field day."

"You must be at least *this* sober to be able to make a trade."

"This trade makes Dennis Fried for Raúl Castillo look like small potatoes."

Yes, the last one is a Raccoons reference, because I could not think of another instance where a team was so stupid it traded the entire Hall of Fame career of a young player for three games of a so-so outfielder.

I love this idea (copied from MLB.com):

"Every year, it's the joke that takes over Twitter: Bobby Bonilla Day for the New York Mets. The former Mets outfielder negotiated a deferred payment contract that pays him $1.2 million every July 1 from 2011 through 2035. Bonilla retired in 2001. It's not totally unusual, but it definitely still looks pretty outrageous on paper.

But with new owner Steve Cohen at the helm and taking fan suggestions on Twitter, one person wondered if, instead of paying out Bonilla's contract each year for the next 15, could Cohen somehow figure out a way to pay it all to him right now? That way the Mets could avoid the embarrassing anniversary every season.

Cohen decided to go in the other direction.

Let’s take a vote .How about we have a Bobby Bonilla day every year .Hand him an oversized check and drive a lap around the stadium.Could be fun
— Steven Cohen (@StevenACohen2) November 20, 2020

Yes, there could be a parade, the first 10,000 fans could get Bobby Bo fake mustaches. This, actually, seems like the best possible idea.

If people are making fun of you for something, the best thing to do is take the joke to another level. Then, well, how can they really make fun of you anymore? You're making fun of yourself. It's genius."

Matt Monagan is a writer for MLB.com. In his spare time, he travels and searches Twitter for Wily Mo Peña news.

They could also give out little charts that show present value

That way people could learn what should be a basic life skill that it's obvious many people don't have

But oversized checks would probably appeal more to a certain kind of person. That type of person may be over-represented in sports fandom

Sorry, Westheim, but:

As Mets owner Steve Cohen and president Sandy Alderson search for someone to lead their baseball operations department, a reminder about the player front: J.T. Realmuto, arguably the best free agent, period, available this offseason, happens to play the position at which the Mets are most in need of help.

Yes, catcher is where the Mets are worst off. The top of the depth chart at the moment: Tomas Nido, Ali Sanchez.

Trevor Bauer would be a luxury in a rotation that already features Jacob deGrom and Marcus Stroman and should get Noah Syndergaard back mid-2021. George Springer would upgrade the outfield defense, but the Mets could stick with Brandon Nimmo if they want.

They did make a huge free agent deal yesterday, though! In terms of the player, reliever Sam McWilliams who is listed at 6-7 and 230 pounds.
