Years ago I wrote to every MLB team to try get autos and such, to say it was a different country I got a pretty good response, only about 8 teams didn't reply, about 10 teams only sent schedules although what I wanted with a schedule living thousands of miles away I have no idea

Best responses were from Brewers - Matheny signed baseball, Mets - signed Ordonez presonalised picture, desk diary, media guide, badges, Yankees - Bob Watson signed a pic lol, media guide and year book, Padres - Caminiti signed picture and magazine, best result I ever got though was from the Detroit Lions a signed personalised picture from Barry Sanders (yes I know it's not the MLB)

The Caminitti and Sanders stuff would be worth a few pounds today.

I found the East Coast teams to be the better ones to write to and sorry to say the West Coast teams to be the worst apart from the Padres it was a poor response.

Maybe they don't speak (or reply in) English.

No, I don't drink. I don't know what impulse drove me to send an email to them.

That's pretty cool. As I say, I'd never try that - I'm not brave enough to face being rejected by them.

I got a Faulk signed photo but it's a printed auto, and from the Expos I got an FP Santangelo signed baseball card, In the letter's I wrote naming one player so there'd be a better chance of a reply.

You should try it, doesn't cost much to send a letter and the buzz when you get a reply no matter how small far out weighs the teams who don't reply. Send one to Tex, best I could get out of the Rangers was a merchandise catalogue, so sad am I that I still have everything that every team sent back lol.

It was a good impulse. The more you try the easier it gets.

With a little luck, the right piece of merchandise can be worth hundreds or thousands years from now.

Don't ever bother writing to football teams over here, I've tried twice once with Liverpool and once with Newcastle to try and get Michael Owen to sign a programme (Liverpool) and shirt (Newcastle), reason being my nephew is named after him "Owen" and both times I've been told he is too busy even though with Liverpool I sent money to cover the cost of a programme and money for them to donate to a charity, Newcastle I even offered to buy a shirt from their club shop and send money to a charity in their name and still was refused.

ps I offered to send money to charities so they would understand the auto's wouldn't be on ebay the day after.

Dodgers sent a merchandise catalogue, Angels either didn't reply or also sent a catalogue. Padres was a great response because they also sent a letter thanking me for writing to them and were shocked that someone in England followed them lol, felt a bit guilty saying I was a fan of the Padres.

Nah, I couldn't. For one, they'd think I was a weirdo. And two, I wouldn't know what to even write in a letter.

I wrote the same letter to each team just changed the names lol, my letter wouldn't be of any use now as the MLB is more global, I wrote something like I'd been a fan for couple years and because of distance couldn't get auto's and merchandise (bit longer than that though lol)

I sent them all in about a 2 week time frame so they were all replying at the same time, postman eventually asked me why I was getting all these letters from ballclubs, must have thought I was being scouted until I told him the proper story

I think it would work because most Americans dont have a clue as to the ins and outs of the internationalization of baseball.
