Controversy reigns as Herrera loses title
April 26, 1908
#3 Young Corbett (15-12-4) scored a TKO4 over champ Aurelio Herrera (12-6) in a stoppage that almost caused a riot in the ring. Herrera dominated the first 3 rounds out-pointing Corbett by 15, 18, and 22. He was up on points by 10 in the 4th, when the fighters clashed heads. It didn't appear to effect either fighter but the next punch landed by Corbett opened a cut over Herrera's left eye. The referee stepped in and stopped the fight, causing a melee in the ring. Shortly after the fight the LBA ruled that there was cause for a mandatory rematch, because the fight was so lopsided in Herrera's favor. Corbett's first defense will be in 3 months against Herrera. On the undercard HW - Tom Sharkey (22-12) TKO5 Tom Lees (15-14) MW - Jack Burke (18-11-5) DRAW10 George LaBlanche (15-15-3) FW - Jimmy Dime (7-0) KO7 Jerry Marshall (5-3) (both fighters at pp for this club fight) BW - Dave Sullivan (7-0-1) MD8 Joe Bowker (12-18-7) (Sullivan at pp for this club fight) WW - Paddy Duffy (10-14-3) KO6 Charles McKeever (2-8) (club fight) |

Too Fast Too Furious, Jackson in 4
April 30, 1908
Peter Jackson (17-3) scored a TKO4 over #4 Charley Hitte (11-8) for his 6th LBC Welterweight title defense. Hitte came out fast and got the best of Jackson in one of the best first rounds in LBA history. Both fighters landed big bombs and never left the center of the ring. Hitte got careless with his confidence though and got dropped in the second round. After that it was all Jackson, pouring it on until the ref finally stepped in with 35 seconds left to go in the 4th round. On the undercard WW - Tommy West (11-2-1) UD10 Dick Burge (12-17-2) (Burge drops to club with the loss) HW - George Gardner (16-9-2) TKO9 John Haines (13-15-2) HW - Bill Lang (12-5) TKO8 Bob Armstrong (21-10-3) BW - Johnny Murphy (8-0) TKO7 Jimmy Brackett (5-2) (both fighters fought at pp for this club fight, Murphy moves to the main division) LW - Mike Cushing (8-17-4) SD10 Young Otto (6-14-3) (club fight) |

Since unification bouts have not happened I am going to add a 25% chance that if two champs fight in the same month, they will fight each other. Also I decided to keep the accelerated fight pace that I use for pp and beg, in use for fighters without 15 fights. Month's fights are attached. Last edited by mh2365; 04-15-2007 at 08:12 PM. |

McCaffrey hangs onto title
May 4th, 1908
Dominic McCaffrey (21-7-3) won a bloody SD15 over #3 John Dwyer (20-8-1) for his 3rd defense of his LBC Heavyweight title. McCaffrey started out fast winning the early rounds and opening a cut over Dwyer's right eye in the 4th. Dwyer won the middle rounds cutting Dominic's lip and opening a cut over his left eye in the 7th. McCaffrey's left eye started swelling up in the 10th. McCaffrey finished strong taking 3 of the last 4 rounds and cutting dwyer over the left eye in the 13th. I had it 144-143. Danny Wildhawke, ringside, had it 145-142. The official judges had it 145-141/142-143/143-142. On the undercard HW - Jake Kilrain (17-12-4) KO8 Tom Allen (16-11) WW - Tommy Martin (11-0) UD10 William Sullivan (8-2-1) HW - Harry Laing (8-0-1) KO1 Fred Robinson (6-22-4) (Laing at pp for this club fight, Robinson fought at HW, Laing moved to the main division with the win, Robinson retired with the loss) LW - Arthur Douglas (7-0) UD8 Johnny Frayne (5-3) (both fighters at pp for this club fight) BW - Maxey Haugh (7-14-2) MD10 Kid Bebee (0-11-1) (Bebee may be the worst 3 rated fighter ever, club fight) |

He is getting an automatic re-match due to the nature of the loss. I believe he will win the rematch.

Donaldson loses non-title bout
May 8th, 1908
Lightheavyweight champ John Donaldson (11-6) lost a UD10 to HW - Billy Smith (18-9-1) in a non-title bout. Donaldson stepped up to HW for the fight and was in the fight until getting dropped twice in the 10th. The decision was close so he might of won the fight if he had just stayed on his feet. He will not lose his title. |

McCoy shakes off rocky start wins easily
May 10, 1908
Charles McCoy (20-7-3) won a UD15 over #11 Billy Baker (15-14-4) for his third defense of his LBC Middleweight crown. Baker looked to pull off the upset in the early going taking the fight right at McCoy. Baker won 3 of the first 4 rounds and opened a cut on the mouth of the champ and started his left eye swelling. The beginning of the 5th saw a nasty cut open over the right eye of McCoy which seemed to finally flick the switch in the champ. The champ dropped Baker late in the 5th and turned the tide of the fight. He went on to win the remaining rounds and knocked Baker down in the 7th, 13th and 14th. I had him winning 147-136. Ringside expert, Jim Trunzo, had it 147-135. The official judges had it 146-136/147-135/147-135. On the undercard HW - Joe Jeannette (15-0) UD10 George Godfrey (18-13-1) (Jeannette becomes the first 15-0 fighter since the new rules were instituted, look for his debut rankings at the end of the month) HW - Frank Slavin (19-10-1) TKO6 Dan Dwyer (12-16) (Dwyer took a beating in stepping up to HW, lost the most retirement points in one fight in the history of the LBA) MW - Harris Martin (17-13-4) UD10 Al Greenfield (14-18-3) LW - George "cherry tree" Washington (7-0-1) UD8 George Siddons (5-1) (both fighters fought pp for this club fight) HW - Mervine Thompson (12-13-2) UD10 Denver Ed Smith (13-17-1) (club fight) ** I decided that since it is hard for a post-prime fighter to win since changing all the fighters to retired, that any fighter evening out his record will go back to prime until he is back under .500. His retirement points will stay where they were. |

Nelson handles Erne again
May 12, 1908
Battling Nelson (17-12) scored a UD15 over #1 Frank Erne (12-3-2) to defend his LBC Lightweight title for the second time. Nelson came out of the gates slow losing 3 out of the first 4 rounds. The he caught Erne with a solid shot in the 5th the put the challanger down. Erne went down again in the 8th. After 10 I still had it anybody's fight even though Erne had been down twice. Nelson took over at that point though winning all 5 remaining rounds to pull away. This is how I expected Nelson to fight from day 1. He is a different fighter than the one who started out 6-8. Walt Arnold, ringside expert, and I had the fight 145-138. The official judges had it 144-139/145-139/145-138. On the undercard HW - Jim Flynn (14-7) TKO5 Peter Felix (11-14-1) LW - Jimmy Carroll (14-10-5) TKO7 Jack Daly (8-3-1) LH - Sailor Brown (6-1-1) draw8 Jack McAuley (6-0-2) (both fighters at pp for this club fight) FW - Billy Yanger (7-0) KO8 Joe Tipman (5-2) (both fighters at pp for this club fight) MW - Ed Rollins (14-18) MD10 Jim Hall (12-17-2) (club fight) |

Ryan barely escapes non-title bout
May 18, 1908
Tommy Ryan (32-0-1) stepped up to LightHeavy weight for a non-title bout with Fred Russell (8-4) and almost left with his first loss, ekeing out a UD with a 94-93 score on all 3 cards. Ryan went to the canvas twice in this bout marking only the second and third time he has been down in his career. He rebounded and put Russell down twice in the 7th, to save his unbeaten record. Three close calls in his last 4 fights, makes one think it won't be long now. |

Will Ryan stay at LightHeavy? It looks like a bad idea but stranger things have happened.

Quote:
By the time he reaches 50 fights he'd have a 30% chance of retiring at year's end. Only a 25% chance of going post-prime. My rules, in case I didn't post the change. Post-prime At any point a fighter can't have a winning record after 25 fights. example 1-13, 6-12-2, 12-13, 13-14 and so on winning record after 40 fights = 10% chance 50 fights = 25% 60 fights = 50% 70 fights = 75% end of year retirement over 30 fights = 10% + 1% for every fight over 30. example 40 fights = 20% chance. Any fighter that retires in this manner has a 50% chance of comeback in the first year, 25% chance in the second year. Returning fighters re-retire if they lose 2 non-championship fights or 3 overall. |

Not sure he will ever move up ... All non-title fights are fought outside the division, but it doesn't mean they are moving up.

Driscoll retains title in close fight with Attell
May 20, 1908
Jem Driscoll (29-5) scored a SD15 over #1 Abe Attell (28-7-1) to win his 2nd defense of the LBA Featherweight crown. This was the 4th time the two have fought and are now even at 2-2. Driscoll controlled the early going, with Attell coming back strong at the end. Driscoll won the final two rounds which pushed him to the win. Neither fighter was worse for wear at the end of the fight. I had it 145-143 Driscoll. Jim Trunzo, ringside expert, also had Driscoll winning 146-143. The official judges scored it 145-144/142-144/143-142. On the undercard HW - Peter Maher (15-13-1) MD10 Frank Mantell (8-1) FW - Harry Tenney (10-3-1) KO1 Dennis McFadden (6-11-1) (loss drops McFadden to club ranks) LH - Bob Moha (9-2-1) UD10 Jack Graham (7-7) (Moha stepped up to LH fot the win) FW - Benny Soloman (6-1-2) DRAW10 Frank Robson (6-0-2) (both fighters at pp for this club fight) WW - Owen Ziegler (8-15) UD10 Billy Edwards (13-19-3) (Edwards stepping up to WW for the loss) |
