It does matter, his performance will be reduced until his position rating for RW reaches 20. So, the higher the starting number for RW, the better. LW's will usually be no lower than 12, so they're the easiest to develop into RW's.

Great, so things like handedness wont play a factor into his success? Just his familiarity rating with that particular side of the ice?

Historical mode, now playing in the '80s. In the entry draft AI will pick eastern bloc / Soviet players in the later rounds and get their rights. They never show up on the draft window so I can't pick them myself.

What happens in some draft years: There aren't enough western players to fill the draft, so the list window will be completely empty after five or six rounds. However, AI still drafts those soviet guys somehow when I can't make them appear on the list. How to fix the issue?

Is it possible to play with two GMs? I don't want to use the take over team function all the time to control two Franchises.

It is if you play a historical game. You can add as many GM's as you like.

Yeah, in the last update, I added a bunch of previously-unrated players to those drafts, but it's not quite enough to push the Soviet-bloc guys off the board. I'm going to see if we can give the human the same ability to make those picks once there's no one else available, rather than stop the AI from doing it. I don't want to eliminate it entirely, since it's actually a pretty good representation of how Soviet/Czechoslovakian players were being drafted in the later rounds of those years, and prevents the human player from unfairly grabbing a bunch of free agents when the Iron Curtain disappears.

Multiplayer, not historical (although you can play historical in multiplayer, of course.)

I agree fully that it would be best to somehow allow human players to make those late drafts towards the Soviet bloc. Realistically you would try to make some risk drafts for star players in there even though you didn't have prior knowledge of the iron curtain falling. Historically realistic as well, like you said.

Further issues with the iron curtain: I had West-German players' rights in the '80s and they wouldn't be allowed to sign. Same for German scouts.

Also, I just started a new historical run in 1993 and the iron curtain still stands for some reason. Am not allowed to sign Eastern European scouts, for example. (Can't report for players yet tho)

Yeah, looks like the rule seems to continue to apply if a new game is started in the years after it should be off, something's wrong there.

I can't replicate the German issue, if I start as Calgary in 1983 I have the rights to Peter Romberg and can sign him with no problem. No issue with German staff, either.

For tactical descriptions that state 'works best with players with good awareness' - is that represented as 'hockey sense' under the skater attributes?

I always thought it was Offensive Read and/or Defensive Read. Would love to hear more if I'm mistaken about that.

I did too but if you take a look under Hockey Sense, I think that's related to OF/DF read yet the description refers to the requirement for high awareness - just double checking as sometimes the game can seem like it's pointing you one way with something when actually it's different. I've made that mistake with this game too many times! lol

Just wondering, will there ever be a shot/goal/assist on ice location chart or statistical info available for players?

Only asking as for instance, someone like Boone Jenner, if I'm playing him as a Screener through he first 20 games and he has like 12 points then I'd just wanted to know how many of those goals were from tipped or deflected shots/close range goals etc. As I'm playing him on a line with a Perimeter shooter and a point shooter in an attempt to give him more opportunities to pounce on rebounds etc.

Is there a way to add/change default name files? I tried editing the names files in both the Steam folder and the My Documents folders but none of the names I changed/added seem to be appearing for generated players (and I've tested it by changing one whole ethnicity to generating a single name just to confirm, but no dice)

We'll be making some changes to reflect the new IIHF tournament restrictions/bans, the announced KHL changes, and the likely degradation of the KHL's financial situation. Unlike EA, we don't license anything from the KHL or Russian hockey federation, so they're not benefiting from the leagues and teams remaining in the game. (And, since FHM in standard mode models the entire hockey world, it wouldn't make any sense to just arbitrarily delete a chunk of it by removing the KHL or other Russian leagues.)

No, the names can't be edited right now. Our naming system works a little differently than OOTP's, and using anything other than the default name database tends to break a variety of things in the player data. (We don't even edit it in updates, we'll only change it once a year before we begin testing the new version.)

Yeah, probably going to include that at some point, the 2D engine makes it a lot easier to get precise locations, particularly for non-puckhandlers.
