How could I let this guy go unposted? It's #13 Matt Carpenter! Happy to report that I was at the ballpark for his major league debut. The Cards beat the Cubs in 12 innings and he got his first career hit, the first of so many doubles.

Down to 12 days.
Wade Boggs may have had his best years with the Red Sox, but his five year stint with the Yanks probably produced the most enduring image of his HOF career. ![]() In a sport with as long and storied a history as baseball has, being the first to do something in that sport is pretty special, even if what you did first isn't all that popular with the sport's purists. MLB's first Designated Hitter, Ron Blomberg:

This guy manned the keystone for the 2004 team, and was best known for his go-ahead, 2-run homer in the bottom of the 8th in Game 1 of the World Series. He was a switch hitter with pretty good power for a 2nd baseman, but he didn't accomplish much after '04. Still, very very important for that team. #12 Mark Bellhorn

Had a very good career and is more memorable as part of the A's and the Moneyball book (in which Bean called him as better than anybody, except maybe Bonds, at that time of his career).
Still had near 30 HR power consistently, with a fantastic eye, despite hitting at Oakland and was a 6 time Gold Glove winner. Finished with a career .342 OBP despite a .268 BA. Eric Chavez

Alfonso Soriano one of my favorite players from my childhood. I remember in my wee youth me and my dad would watch the yankees and in order to teach me the names of the players he would tell me to repeat the names after he said them. and soriano's name always stuck with me and became one of my favorite players. a very underrated/underappreciated player in my opinion. Decided to throw in the Nationals picture of him because he was a 40-40 guy in his lone season with them and I had his Nationals jersey because I liked him so much

One of my all-time favourites from childhood/teenage years. I can't find it anywhere, but this guy had what I can only describe as a helicopter swing to the point where his finish to his swing was over his head. (Pic#2: "Hey Donnie Baseball, how you doin'?") Ernie Whitt #12

This very, very good, not HoF good, but very good, southpaw was traded for future HoF southpaw Randy Johnson and it kind of made everybody forget how damn good he was. That is one helluva leg kick in pic#1! Mark Langston #12

This guy was one of the most important moves not made in World Series history.
