![]() Here is the first 5 years of Fellers development and the last few. As you can see, control was always an issue for him, but his stuff, movement and velocity made him the toughest pitcher to hit in baseball. All of that disappeared very quickly. |

This dynasty is beautiful, literally and metaphorically.

1956 MLB Regular Season
It was just a matter of time. With diminished skills, looking like a shadow of his former self, 37 year old Bob Feller has announced that 1956 will be his final season. Feller dominated hitters like no one ever has. He holds the top nine single season strikeout performances, which is one of the most amazing stats I have seen. This year, he’s stuck out 52 batters, and walked 57 in 73 innings. He just doesn’t have it anymore, and will hang it up rather then spend years on the bench as a spectator. When I said the future of the AL was Boston vs Detroit, I probably should have included Washington. With Sandy Koufax, they have someone who could dominate for a decade or 2. They also have baseball’s elite power hitter in Norm Zauchin. Zauchin became the 5th man ever to hit 50 home runs last season, and he’s on pace to do it again. The former 2nd round pick was acquired from Pittsburgh for Nate Peeples. I questioned the deal at the time, but it’s been a big win win for both clubs. ![]() Blockbuster Alert!!!!!. I think that’s what you call it when two of baseball’s best are traded for each other. ![]() Ralph Kiner is traded to Cleveland for Hank Thompson!! Kiner, is, IMO, the best player in baseball the last few years. He time in St. Louis/Baltimore could not have been more successful in how he played. At 33, he isn’t slowing down. Going to Baltimore is Hank Thompson, the 30 year old , 3 time AL MVP. He’s having another MVP season this year. This seems to be a trade that fills a hole for each team, while plugging in capable youngsters in the former players positions. ![]() As September 1st hits, the Brooklyn Dodgers, and their amazing pitching staff have dominated the NL to the tune of a 94-34 record, and an 18 game lead. The only question is whether they will challenge the White Sox single season wins record, set in 1950. Ok, after looking that up, the Dodgers can’t lose more then 1 more game to set the mark, it’s still really good though!! In the AL, Baltimore leads Washington by just half a game. The Sens will be without slugger Norm Zauchin though. He was leading baseball in home runs when he fractured his thumb in early August. He may return for the World Series. By mid September, the Senators have plummeted, while the Orioles have soared, and any possible pennant race is over. The Dodgers will take on the Orioles in a rematch of the 1955 World Series. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

![]() The Dodgers, after years of being, well, pathetic, are truly a dynasty now. The rotation is elite. They have four number 1 caliber pitchers, and they all performed this year. The pitching staff overshadows the offense, who had 3 players hit over 300 with 100+ runs driven in. This is not only the greatest Dodger team in history, but should be considered one of the best ever if they win this. It would be a massive upset to see them lose to an inferior Orioles team. |

![]() A 70 minute rain delay ended the nights of starters Don Kaiser and Masaaki Koyama early. The Orioles bullpen came through, while the Dodgers did not. Baltimore wins game one, 4-0. Curt Simmons responds with a dominant, complete game, shutout win in Game 2. The Dodgers got a huge first inning home run from Roy Sievers in the 5-0 win. Robin Roberts was cruising for 6 innings, with a 2-1 lead. The Orioles came to bat in the bottom of the seventh. Roberts hit Joe Cunningham. He walked Hank Thompson, and allowed a infield single to Randy Jackson. Platoon SS Dick Gray came to the plate, and with 1 out, and blasted a 3 and 2 pitch over the left field wall for a go ahead GRAND SLAM! The Orioles led 5-2. Orioles pitcher Max Surkont began the eighth walking back to back hitters. Wes Westrum then tied the game with a 3 run home run!!! Clutch hits and pitching meltdowns. We are tied again. I take you to the bottom of the ninth……. ![]() Walk off win for thrill a minute Baltimore Orioles! They lead the series 2-1. With no score in the eighth inning, Gil Hodges hit a 2 out, 2 run home run. The Dodgers Koyama out dueled Orioles ace Don Kaiser, with Brooklyn’s 2nd complete game shutout of the series. The Dodgers tie the series with a game four, 2-0 win. The Dodgers needed an extra frame, but after loading the bases, the Orioles walked in 2 runs, and were not able to counter in their half of the inning. Brooklyn wins 5-2, and now leads the series 3-2. Game 6: Brooklyn leads 3-1, heading into the top of the ninth inning. 3 outs away from winning their 6th World Series in 9 years…… ![]() The error is committed by SS Granny Hamner, who has won 2 gold gloves. Robin Roberts stayed in the game and pitched a scorless tenth. He gave up a lead off single to Dick Gray in the eleventh, who then scored when Gil McDougald doubled. The Dodgers would not score in their half of the inning, and we have a game 7. GAME 7 ![]() The Orioles strike first, with a Sherm Lollar solo shot in the second inning. Baltimore extends their lead to 2-0, when Joe Cunningham lead off the fifth with a double, and scored on a fielders choice. Brooklyn finally gets on the board in the sixth, when pitcher Masaaki Koyama singles home Roy Sievers, making the score 2-1. Former Indian’s star Hank Thompson, makes the Ralph Kiner trade look great, hitting a solo home run in the 7th, restoring the Orioles two run lead. The Dodgers answer right back with one of their own. A 2 out RBI single from Roy Sievers, and the Dodger deficit is back to 1. Leading off the bottom of the eighth, Wes Westrum ties the game with his 2nd home run of the series. The Orioles don’t score in the ninth……..The Dodgers now get a chance to win the World Series…….. ![]() Ted Lepico!!!!!! ![]() ![]() Last edited by George_Bell; 08-28-2014 at 04:04 PM. |

I feel like there is a tradition in this universe of usually excellent defenders making key errors in World Series games.

Your league has been a series of dynasty teams that dominate for a 5-7 yr stretch. I suppose that is due to not having FA turned on yet. I'm guessing this trend will end once it is turned on, but for now, it's kinda cool to see who will be the team that claims king of the mountain and detrones the dynasty.

I'm not sure about that honestly. You might want to post in the general forum about if FA is turned on automatically. |

1956-57 Offseason News and Notes
A unimpressive draft class, both name wise and talent wise. The 1st pick was a man who never actually played major league baseball. Gene Bacque, a pitcher becomes the newest member of the Cardinals. ![]() ![]() ![]() Booker McDaniels didn't have a long career. He was drafted when he was in his mid 20's. He dominated right out of the gates. He was elite for almost his whole career. His 2 year, 1946-47 span, saw a 57-11 record, with a 2.07 ERA. Spectacular! Hal Trosky was the player everyone wanted. He kept getting traded. It didn't matter where he played though, he seemed to always make a difference. Two guys who were easy to induct into the Hall of Fame. ![]() |

1957 Regular Season
I forgot to mention Bob Fellers final career strikeout mark when he retired at the end of last season. 5999. Yep, 1 strikeout less then 6000. That’s also 200 or so more then the real life total of Nolan Ryan!! Feller did that in 5355.2 innings, which is good for a K/9 ratio of 10.2!!! What a career from the great Bob Feller! ![]() 5999 Career Strikeouts It looks like 38 year old Ted Williams career is winding down. He was benched half way through1956, and through 2 months of 57, he’s received just 17 plate appearances. Let’s hope he announces his retirement soon, rather than sit around never playing like some players did. ![]() ![]() 37 year old Jiro Noguchi joined the 400 win club. That’s a great accomplishment for the lifelong member of the Reds. A 4th round pick, Noguchi has made 9 all-star games, and was a key member of the Reds 6 titles in 7 years. His 400 wins is 3rd all-time, and just 35 wins shy of Satchel Paige’s 435 win record. ![]() Noguchi is a future HOFer Once again, the Dodgers have completely blown the NL away. Entering September, it isn’t even close, and they will win another NL pennant. Brooklyn fans should probably buy their World Series tickets. They probably won’t get the chance next year! ![]() 5 teams are still alive in the AL. The Indians lead the league, but Washington, NY, Baltimore and Detroit are all close enough that they could make a run. I’m routing for the Tigers. Mays and Mantle are now great players. I’d like to see them take on the Dodgers pitching. It's a long shot though.... Detroit and NY fell off the pace fairly quickly. The Orioles did their best to retain the pennant, but could not catch the front runners. The Senators also gave the Indians a run, but in the end, the Tribe did enough, and won the AL pennant by 2 games. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

![]() In the 4th round of last years draft, the Reds drafted a starter named Bob Gibson. (Gibson imported horribly. He was a 1 pitch, AA reliever. I imported him into a test league and transferred his ratings.) In early June, after barely pitching in the minors due to a injury, Gibson was traded to Cleveland, for Lou Skizas, whose actually a pretty good third baseman. Gibson was promoted to the majors, and in 17 starts, he went 15-1, with a 1.39 ERA. Gibson, and the least talked about slugger in history, Joe Bauman, who has 400 career home runs, are why the Indians have a chance against the vaunted Dodgers, who will be missing Lou Brissie for the entire series. |
