Round 2 Preview
With round two set to begin we'll take a quick preview of the round two rules. With six players in 32 brackets left there are 192 players left. We'll use round two to eliminate two players per bracket, or 64 players total.
That will leave 128 players, which will be spread out into two 64 player brackets where they'll go head to head until just one player remains. The seeding will be done based on round two totals, and players will be ranked 1-128 based on their home run totals. Round two will also feature the first appearance of the top seeds, who received a bye the first round. The byes consist primarily of players who reached 400 more than once during the four play throughs, as well as a couple other select players to even out the numbers. Needing just to outperform two players they should have a good shot at advancing to the tournament. And with that, we'll begin round two tomorrow. |

Bracket 1 - Round 2
Round 2
Ken Phelps put up a surprising 37 home runs to lead the first bracket and advance to the round of 128. Willie Horton finished in second place with 30 home runs. Home run king Barry Bonds finished with 28 home runs and will also be advancing to the tournament. Bonds will be one to watch in the final home run tournament. As much as I'd like to see him fizzle out early he's done very well in my testing. Curtis Granderson is the final player advancing after hitting 20 home runs and is the first 'play-in' round winner to advance to the tournament. Players Advancing Ken Phelps - 37 Willie Horton - 30 Barry Bonds - 28 Curtis Granderson - 20 Eliminated Mike Tiernan - 15 Nate Colbert - 13 |

Bracket 2 - Round 2
Round 2
Before even getting to the tournament I'm going to go out on a limb and predict a long tournament run for Mike Schmidt. He's the only player who successfully hit 400 home runs in each of the four replays and slammed 44 home runs. John Mayberry, Sr. was second in the bracket with 41 home runs and will advance. Oscar Gamble finished in a tie for third place with 32 home runs. 400 club member Gary Sheffield is the final player advancing to the tournament. Players Advancing Mike Schmidt - 44 John Mayberry, Sr - 41 Oscar Gamble - 32 Gary Sheffield - 32 Eliminated Joe Hague - 18 Erubiel Durazo - 15 |
