I am considering trading a veteran pitcher who wins 17-20 games every year for me, and bringing him up. Should be dominate right away with maxed out actual ratings even though he's a rookie? I brought Jered Weaver up to start the 2006 season and his ratings were 10 9 10 and he was 25-3 with a 2.19 ERA with 271 K's in his rookie season. He won the ROY and CY Young award. He repeated this season with a 25-1 record with a 1.91 ERA. Should I expect these kinds of immediate results with this 10 10 10 pitcher?

Side Note: My pitchers are all 20+ game winners, so I have to lose one to bring this AAA SP up.
I honestly find it hard to believe that you are sincerely asking a question here. If anyone would know, it would be you, as you just experienced nearly the exact situation with Weaver (Only diff. is Weaver has LESSER ratings).

In the event that you are serious - here is my take : We all know there are no absolute certainties in OOTP, and if you are afraid he won't perform - I would think it would be obvious to move him up into a MR or spot role to "test the waters". Unless of course, there was a salary problem with one of your other starters - then I think the solution to your "problem" would be even more obvious.

But .... here is what I think you're really after, so I'll indulge :

Wow UtahGamecockFan, you have built a really great pitching staff ! You must be a really great GM ! I am very impressed !

So, tell us how you managed to get five 1-in-a-1000 pitchers on the same team? No, not 1 in a thousand, more like 1 in 10 thousand.
All of those pitchers are extremely high rated prospects in most of the "real player" roster sets I've seen and it's certainly possible that 6 of them panned out and maxed their ratings. With player-made sets it's far more common.

DougWyatt, see post #26. His answer follows shortly thereafter, insulted by the insinuation. *shrug*

FWIW, I remain totally unconvinced that it is likely, or even possible, to amass that level of pitching talent on one team honestly.

Show me a major league team that has had even three pitchers of that level at one time.

Even the Orioles of the early 70's, with multiple 20 game winners didn't have that type of talent...same with the '54 Indians.

The best modern equivalent may be Schilling/Johnson, or even Prior/Wood/Maddux. Even with these guys, they have some "7's" or "8's."

I'm not here to judge whether anything was done honestly or whether anyone is looking for praise. I just try to answer questions and ask my own.

It can be done honestly in OOTP solo leagues with Trade Difficulty set to Normal. I've never played a true multiplayer league, so my guess it would be possible there too, but only if all the other managers really, really suck.

I guess anything is possible, but I've never seen a single 10/10/10 starting pitcher in 3 years of playing this game solo, let alone so many on one team at one time like that. let alone in one league at one time.

I think I had Babe Ruth as a 10/10/9/10 hitter once, and I've seen several 10/10/10 relievers, but that's the best of anything I've ever seen in the game. Never a perfect starter. I think 10/9/9 is the best starter I've seen and that was in a fictional league.

I have an idea, trade one of those pitchers to me. I could use them this season to try to help my team make the playoffs in my solo league

My experiences have varied. Sometimes a guy will come up and immediately play right up to his ratings, while other times there is a period of adjustment, although, if anything, it seems like the second season is more likely to "off" the visible ratings than the first. Just like real life, though, there's no way to know until the guy faces major leaguers.

I am totally convinced that there are hidden ratings in OOTP which, at their extremes, seriously overshadow the visible ratings. But the result is a highly realistic experience.

No he won't dominate

If he is young, for some reason, OOTP will pull him quite often and he won't live up to those ratings right away

When I first purchased OOTP, I tried to follow Walter Johnson's career, even with ratings of 10 across the board, he was not the Big Train, he only pitched 3 CG and 1 SHO from 18-20

Then at 21 he became the Walter Johnson his ratings suggested.

I thought it was just a small sample size error, but looked up threads where alot of people had problems with Walter Johnson, and I think it is an OOTP program so that 18 years just cannot be drafted and contribute in the majors right away

If he is 20 or 21, I say he might dominate, but any younger, I just don't think so

This is a no-brainer. I think you probably knew that going in. If this is an online league then the other owners must REALLY suck.
