UD, methinks we should create a separate forum for you and all of your "associates", kind of like with the "Logos and Graphics" forum. Got to disguise it, though, so the n00bs will be suckered in. Maybe call it the "2005 Beltran on Mets Rosters" forum. You're the creative one 'round here. What d'you think?

Oh, almost forgot -- now that you referred to yourself in the third person, I know the right acronym to call you. Kind of breaks your "You Will Talk in the Second Person" thread, though.

Great thread, by the way! Go Friars!

Yeah, really enjoying this UD. I think the format's just about right. Quickish game recaps that let you get through the season at more than snail's pace, but long enough to fill us in on all the important details. And I'm liking the photos and logos too, great stuff!

We can make our own BLOC and then start being oppressed.

Thanks. I'm still not entirely sold on how to run my game recaps. May start using a winning pitcher/losing pitcher summary like Craig's Hose in addition to the short summary.

Los Angeles (7-2) at San Francisco (4-5) Series

Game 1: Los Angeles 4, San Francisco 7
Game 2: Los Angeles 3, San Francisco 4
Game 3: Los Angeles 3, San Francisco 10

Game 1: Kirk Reuter starts for us against 19 year old stud Dodger pitching prospect Greg Miller, making his first ever appearance in the majors. The Dodgers bloop a run across the plate in the first but we fight right back with two in the bottom of the frame on a Bonds two-bagger. We score again in the third and chase Miller by the fifth with a 5-1 lead. Reuter allows a pair of runs, one earned in the seventh but we score two in the bottom of the inning and head into the final two frames up 7-3. The Dodgers score one in the eighth off of Reuter who is still pitching solely because I don't trust my bullpen lately but Matt Herges gets three quick outs in the ninth to wrap up the victory. Woody gets his second victory and Miller has his proverbial cherry popped with his first loss. Ray Durham and A.J. Pierzynski lead our offense with three hits apiece and the Dodgers spread eight hits evenly throughout their lineup.

Game 2: Jerome Williams tries to rebound from a couple of bad starts against Japanese power hurler Hideo Nomo. Nomo has some control problems in the first (He walked Deivi Cruz, that is definitely serious), and we are able to score three runs, though the Dodgers get one back on a groundout in the second. Nomo balks in a run in the bottom of the frame and both pitchers settle down after that. Williams goes six innings allowing only the one run and we head into the final three frames with a 4-1 lead. Jason Christianson walks the first two batters of the seventh but Jose Hernandez lines one to center field on a hit and run for a triple play. First time I've ever seen one in OOTP. Jim Brower surrenders a pair of runs in the eighth to cut our lead to one but Matt Herges pitches a scoreless ninth and gets the save against his former club. Williams earns his first win of the season and Nomo takes the loss.

Game 3: Brett Tomko takes the mound against hyped prospect Edwin Jackson in the final match of the series. How do you say sweep in German? ("Streife", but I had to look it up). We get a couple of runs in the second and four more in the third to chase Jackson and give us an early six run lead. David Ross jacks one out with the bases empty in the fourth to put the Dodgers on the board but a Robin Ventura error gives us that run back in the bottom of the sixth. Bonds connects for a towering two-run double to make that error all the more damaging and we take a 10-3 lead into the ninth despite back-to-back homers from Cody Ross and Jose Hernandez in the eighth. Chad Zerbe pitches a scoreless couple of frames and we easily sweep the Dodgers, bouncing back from a dissapointing series against Milwaukee. Tomko gets his first win of the season and Jackson takes the loss for L.A.

Giants Player of the Series: A.J. Pierzynski: .461 (6 for 13), two doubles, three RBIs

Call of the Series: Game Two, Top of the Seventh
The Giants are in some trouble now. Christianson put the first two Dodgers on in the inning and now Brower has come on to try to put out the fire. Jose Hernandez pinch-hitting, 4-1 lead. Brower sets, the 1-1 pitch, the runners go, swung on, lined into center! Grissom slides, he has it! The runners are miles off the base! Hold on folks, he throws it to second for two, Cruz with the cannon to Snow, Green sliding back into first. The call, OUT! TRIPLE PLAY! You've just seen a rarity here tonight folks, three outs from one swing of the bat. Score that one 8-6-3, folks, and the Giants dodge a bullet heading into the stretch.

The Giants claimed Braves reliever Jung Bong off of waivers

Giants Add Bullpen Arms

The Giants claimed a pair of relievers off waivers Tuesday to strengthen a bullpen that has struggled so far this season. Korean native Jung Bong was claimed from the Atlanta Braves and assigned to the major league club. Bong has pitched four innings this year, allowing five runs and struggling with his control. "We know Bong has struggled thus far this year," said GM Brian Sabean, "But we think the Braves gave up on him too soon. Bong has a lot of potential, and I think (Giants pitching coach) Dave Righetti is going to be able to turn him around."

The Giants also claimed reliever Vic Darensbourg from the Chicago White Sox and assigned him to the AAA Fresno Grizzlies. Outfielder/first baseman Tony Torcato was the casualty from the Giants active roster, being outrighted to the minors.

San Diego (5-7) at San Francisco (7-5) Series

Game 1: San Diego 3, San Francisco 6
Game 2: San Diego 7, San Francisco 8
Game 3: San Diego 5, San Francisco 9
Game 4: San Diego 3, San Francisco 6

Game 1: A duel of aces, Jason Schmidt takes the hill against Jake Peavy. Both have struggled thus far this season, but they get off to good starts tonight, rolling through the first two innings with ease. A pair of doubles give us two runs in the third, and Marquis Grissom makes it a big inning with a three-run homer before Peavy can retire the side. Schmidt falls apart in the fourth but is able to get strike out Khalil Greene with the bases juiced and allow only a single run. Durham clubs a solo bomb in the bottom of the fourth and thats all the scoring until the Padres finally put one across in the eighth. I leave Schmidt in too long and he allows another run in the ninth but Jim Brower gets the final out for the save and we win 6-3. Schmidtty gets the win, his second, and Peavy takes his second loss on the year.

Game 2: Brett Tomko has surprisingly been my most consistant pitcher so far this year, and he starts tonight against Padre southpaw David Wells. We put a run across in the first and another in the second but our lead goes the way of Tomko's control as a trio of walks helps the Padres score four times in the top of the third. I pull Tomko after another walk and run in the fourth and neither team scores again until the bottom of the sixth when Yorvit Torrealba's pinch-hit double caps a three run inning and ties the game at 5-5. Bonds swipes second for his 501st career steal in the seventh and scores seconds later on an Edgardo Alfonzo double to give us a one-run lead, but Brower can't hold it, surrendering a RBI single to Brian Buchanan to tie it back up in the eighth. Felix Rodriguez gives up a run in the ninth and I'm about ready to release our entire bullpen when A.J. Pierzynski belts Rod Beck's first pitch in the ninth inning into the left field bleachers to make it a 7-7 game. Five homers out of this little bastard, bar fights be damned. One batter later, Barry Bonds pummels a slider into the stands and I remember why I love this team. Felix Rodriguez gets a very undeserved win and Rod Beck a very deserved loss.

Game 3: Our fifth starter/mop up reliever Dustin Hermanson makes his first start of the season against Ismael Valdes as we go for our sixth straight victory. Edgardo Alfonzo's two-run jack in the first gives us the early lead I've grown accustomed to lately, but Khalil Greene ties it back up with a two-run longball of his own in the second. A Deivi Cruz triple in the third gives us a one-run lead but Cruz hands it right back with a costly error in the third. Okay, Hermanson walking three straight batters might have had more to do with it, but scapegoats, people, scapegoats. Hermanson lasts five innings and leaves the game trailing 4-3 but we tie it up with a bloop single in the bottom of the sixth. Our offense explodes for five runs in the seventh, and, though our bullpen makes it dangerous, we come through with a victory, one more to sweep. Jim Brower gets the win, Antonio Osuna the loss, and Matt Herges the save for retiring one batter with the bases loaded in the ninth.

Game 4: Jerome Williams gets the start tonight against Ben Howard as we go for our second straight sweep of a division rival. The Padres score a run in the top of the third to take an early lead but a defensive gem from Pedro Feliz keeps them from getting any more and we tie the game up in the bottom of the fourth on a sac fly. That lead doesn't last long as Ramon Vazquez rips a solo shot just over the right field wall in the top of the fifth to make it 2-1. J-Will gets in more trouble, but I leave him in and he does me proud, striking out the next two batters to get out of trouble. I celebrate with a little victory dance, as does Williams, but he actually falls off the mound and fractures his elbow. F*CK. Chad Zerbe comes on and gives up a run before getting out of the inning. I said pitch around goddammit! Yorvit Torrealba eases my suffering with a game tying two-run homer to deep center in the bottom of the sixth but the Padres fight right back putting runners on the corners with one out in the seventh. Looking at my bullpen I panic, close my eyes, and grab a reliever. Jason Christianson is the lucky bullpenner, and he actually does his job, getting a strikeout and fly ball to keep the game tied. A sac fly and a double give us three runs in the bottom of the seventh and Felix Rodriguez pitches the last inning and two thirds for the save. JC gets the win for us and Howard the loss for San Diego. A bittersweet victory to be sure.

Giants Player of the Series: Barry Bonds: .538 (7 for 13), one homer, two doubles, two RBIs and seven runs scored.

Call of the Series: Game Two, Bottom of the Ninth
The Giants are right back in this game, 7-7. Rod Beck facing Barry Bonds with one out in the bottom of the ninth. No room for error here. Bonds stands in, Beck delivers the 2-1 pitch, slider, swung on, PUMMELED! DEEP RIGHT CENTER FIELD! AND THAT BALL IS.... GONE! Bonds takes one out and the Giants have won this game! What a game, folks, two ninth inning home runs pull victory from the jaws of defeat and the San Francisco wins this one with a score of 8-7. I hope you appreciate what your seeing here, folks.

Hey, I think Herges actually got some mythical bases loaded, nobody out save in real life last year. He then proceeded to blow several in a row, I'm sure.

Went to High School with Herges, though he was more known for being a wrestler/a--hole at that time.

It's always heartening to find out a player I yelled at for an entire season is actually an a**hole. Makes me feel less guilty.

Jerome Williams was 1-1 so far this year with 15 strikeouts in 17 innings.

Williams Out For Eight Weeks!

Jerome Williams got a little over-excited in last night's victory against the San Diego Padres, and the whole team will pay the price. After striking out Brian Giles, Williams got too pumped up on the mound he slipped and fell, fracturing his elbow. Doctors say he will miss at least six weeks with the injury and with rehab will probably be out for eight. This is a huge blow for a questionable Giants rotation which features a pair of low-endurance starters in Kirk Reuter and Dustin Hermanson.

"We're obviously very sad to see this happen," said manager Felipe Alou, "But I think we're going to be able to handle it. We have some good young kids in the minors, and I'm sure they'll be able to fill in admirably. We're gonna have to work at it, but this club will overcome it, and we're going to hand the people of San Francisco another pennant."

23 year old left-hander Noah Lowry is Williams replacement for now, getting called up from AAA Fresno where he is 0-2 with a 3.70 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 24 innings. Other options include Kevin Correia and 22 year old Merkin Valdez, but the Giants are cautious about rushing Valdez who scouts say has the most potential of any Giants pitching prospect.

In that case I demand her comments be stricken from the record. Tough losing Williams though, a guy with such an amazing surname is clearly gonna be difficult to fill in for. Still, you're having a nice streak at the moment and Bonds is showing no signs of doing the Giambi-Bump.
