What a joke. I have never seen someone as inept at Kenny Williams.
Aw, c'mon. With the signings of Walker, Hermanson and now Dye our ticket is stamped for the World Series.

In all seriousness, Williams has said he doesn't mind going after second tier players while the big boys fight over top tier players. I haven't seen any yet. What are we on third or fourth tier? Lower?

Next Rey Sanchez is going to get a three year deal. And, if nobody signs him, I'm sure Williams will make a huge impact by signing a "proven closer" in Robb Nen.

If I didn't grow up with this team, I'd find Williams' destruction of it absolutely hilarious.

The Dye signing is good if -- if -- he can remain healthy. Then again, that's a big question mark with this guy.

Exactly. Dye has, at times, put up numbers comparable to Magglio - look at 2000 - but health is a question mark. I'm not unhappy with this signing, however.

I'd still rather have (a healthy) Ordoñez or Beltran, but who wouldn't? Jermaine Dye is certainly a far better option than Joe "I Can't Even Hit Mexican Winter League Pitching" Borchard.

Hence why giving this guy 4.5M for more than 1 year is a waste of resources.

And here's the confirmation link. $4 million this year, $5 next year and a $6 million option for 2007 (with a $1.15 million buyout).

To demonstrate the logic of Williams, when your team ideally needs a left-handed, on-base guy... go out and sign an injury prone, right-handed, average OBP guy!

Yeah whatever happened to making this team more speed oriented?

Then again Dye must be one of those "grinders" Williams is always talking about the White Sox needing more of.

Here is a paraphrasing of what Kenny Williams said recently:

"Everybody's busy focusing on Player X. So we'll sneak in and sign Player Y before anybody else!"

Basically, KW's Plan A is to target everybody else's Plan B.

Grinders?

That was a mistake anyway.

delayed dola,

Just heard on ESPN Radio 1000 that Carlos Lee was traded for Scott Podsednik.

As soon as I'm done counting all the ways this is stupid, I'll get angry.

Well, it's not a straight up Lee-for-Pods trade, Bruce Levine is reporting two more "major" names.

Of course, that probably will mean Lee-Konerko-Buehrle for Podsednik.

Rumors are swirling about Lyle Overbay, Keith Ginter and Ben Sheets...

I don't see how Overbay or Sheets would be involved simply because then the trade would be "Lee for Overbay" or "Lee for Sheets" with Podsednik included. I think Branyan might be one of the guys coming over.

Unless Jenkins, Overbay, or Sheets are included, this might be Williams' worst move yet (I think he likes to top himself with these senseless trades).

Edit: Luis Vizcaino. This is hilarious.

The other guy is, apparently, Luis Vizcaino, a very solid relief pitcher.

Podsednik stole 70 bases last year. The Sox stole 73. If Pods can rebound to his 2003 form, he'll be a stud.

Now the question is who will be at the bottom of the Central, Kansas City or Chicago?

I'd say KC, but like everyone keeps telling me: Kenny Williams isn't done yet!

This deal is about one thing:

Lee will make $8 million next year, and his contract contains an $8.5 million club option for 2006

Podsednik is guaranteed $550,000 next season and $1.9 million in 2006. Vizcaino is eligible for salary arbitration and figures to make about $2 million next year.
