Had I just took Carolina over the damn Rams, I would have called it nicely to this point.... always trust your 1st instinct, I didn't. Well, I KNOW the Pats will win but just to be different I will cheer for the Panthers and even pick them to win just because they league must have noticed all the super bowls lately have been blow outs and this one will be rigged! ![]() I am really out on a limb here I know, but it is better than just accepting that the game will be over at the half. |

Gotta root for the Panthers. This way, I can say the Cowboys got beat by the Super Bowl champs

New England and Philadelphia both use the hellspawn offense and New England's receivers aren't really any better than Philly's. So I see New England getting shut down.
Carolina 7 New England 0

New England's receivers aren't better?
I'd take David Givens, Deion Branch, and Bethel Johnson over anyone the Eagles have with the possible exception of Freddie Mitchell. I would take Troy Brown over all but Mitchell to boot.

I should have been more specific, New England's receiving corp definitely has better hands than Philly. But, I think that they aren't strong enough to get off the line of scrimmage against the press which will screw up their timing/west coast style passing game.

They may not be GREAT but they are certainly more skilled and get off the line better than the Eagles receivers. Let me put it this way, I am a huge Eagles fan and My favorite college team is Ohio State. Thrash and Pinkston would have been the 4th and 5th receivers on that team this year and I am NOT kidding or exaggerating. |

I can't believe how one-sided feelings on this game are (not just on this board). On paper I honestly think Carolina has better talent.
These are quite possibly the best two defenses in the league, so it's a wash picking one over the other. Now to the "O". Both O lines do a great job at what is expected of them. New England has possibly the best pass protection in the league, but can't run block worth a crap. Meanwhile, Carolina does an excellent job busting open big holes for Davis and Foster. But, I think they pass protect very well, certainly they are better at that than New England is at run blocking. Therefore, I give the Carolina line the overall edge. For receivers, I think this is a wash. Both teams have good, but not necessarily great receivers. Both teams have receivers that are very good at what that team expects. NE has guys who run great short routes, along with that extra burst Bethel provides. Carolina has big, strong receivers that can make big plays. This plays in well to what Delhomme can do when he has the running game going on all cylinders. Slow the game down with the run then every now and then string out the D with a nice long pass. I think the receiving corps for each team is even. Running game, not even close. NE ran well on Indianapolis, but so what? Indi has small linemen and is not known for a particularly stingy running D. As for Carolina, this is a great in-out duo. Davis hits the line as hard as anybody while Foster has nice jets to the outside. They have a very, very good running game with no particular weakness. Davis has two weeks to get healthy too. Carolina has the edge here in a very big way. QB. This is where the "X" factor begins. Delhomme has had a very nice year. He has shown the ability to make big plays while not making many mistakes. He is a pretty good QB. On the other hand, Brady is something we haven't seen for awhile. He's not the greatest passer in the world, but he is a great offensive leader who clearly knows how to win big games. Plus he rarely makes mistakes. For these two reasons alone I give Brady the clear edge. However, Brady's edge in my mind may not overcome the edge Carolina has running the ball. Special teams are a wash. Both teams are very good in this category, I see no clear edge. All that said, you probably think I'm picking the Panthers. By Vegas standards, yes I am. I heard the opening spread was 7. Way too high for teams so evenly matched. On a neutral field in a regular game I take Carolina by a FG. But this isn't a regular game, it's the Super Bowl. NE won this game two years ago with largely the same cast of characters. Here's the "X" factor. NE knows how to win the game and will accept nothing else. Carolina is "damn glad to be here" and I think will start off too nervous. They will make some early mistakes that a savvy team like the Pats will take advantage of. Once they get over the jitters Carolina gets its feet back under them to make it a game, but not enough to pull it out. My final, NE 17, Carolina 13. Take 7 points and the Panthers when you bet.

paper means bul crap! I bet if you walked up to a non-pats fan they couldn't name more than 5 players (same with the panthers) its how you play the game. Take the NYR. They have great allstars but they suck because they can't play together.

The Rangers suck because they have a bunch of one-dimensional players.
