To respond to the original question.
Perhaps, OOTP gets little media attention because OOTP Dev aren't promoting their product in that way. My assumption always is that media attention is paid for.

I don't think it's that so much as they won't find you, you have to find them. There has to continual media out push, press releases and that stuff. I've wondered about that because OOTP would be a goldmine if it could have a MLB logo on their press releases or other branded marketing .

shoooot, i will judge...i think it is a big mistake to ignore marketing, i.e., if they are!

How does media attention need to be paid for? That's somewhat like saying MLB has to pay news outlets to mention MLB in the 11 o'clock news and sports. Obviously when you're big enough you generate audience, the media doesn't. So you get covered. OOTP isn't. So it doesn't.

That's how the world works. Even games as massive as GTA6 have a massive marketing budget that pays for media attention.
Yes the daily news is being fed what to report.

So just talk across the topic and this way you can participate without contributing? Isn't there a term for that?

Specifically the topic was "games media" and, more specifically, the notion that apparent quality (ie depth of product) should drive media interest. What drives revenue generating media attention is fan-base. Now perhaps an alternate might be in subscription based media which might have more room for "niche", or a non-profit media that doesn't advertise.
