October Recap
Eastern Conference: Montreal Canadiens (8-2-1, 1st in East) After a career season last year, Cole Caufield is on an even better pace this year. With 11 Goals, 6 Assists, from his 11 games played, Caufield has helped Montreal to a really strong start. Jakub Dobes (8 GP, .925 SV%, 2.51 GAA) is having an excellent start to his NHL career, Boston Bruins (7-2-0, 3rd in East) Bouncing back from the disaster that was the 23/24 season, Boston is back into playoff places. Jeremy Swayman is looking a lot tougher in goal and the team is 2nd in goals per game, getting offensive contributions up and down the lines. Ottawa Senators (4-5-1, 13th in East) While new arrival Patrik Laine (10 GP, 4 G, 4 A) has adapted well to his new team, he and Stutzle (10 GP, 3 A, 8 A) are the only two players performing well for the Senators. The team are 19th in goals per game and 23rd in goals against. They will need a big bounce back to repeat last years playoff trip. Western Conference Dallas Stars (1-8-0, 16th in West) The start to this season has been rough for Dallas. As a very top heavy team cap wise, their lack of production from Heiskanen (0 points), and Oettinger (-1.12 GSAA/60) have meant that the team has been off to a very slow start. LA Kings (9-2-0, 1st in West) The defending President's Trophy winners have started their next season strong. Pierre-Luc Dubois' 11 GP, 5 G, 15 A, is one of the strongest starts of any forward and he leads the NHL in assists. Adrian Kempe's 11 G, 8 A is keeping him close behind, as Copley and Talbot are providing strong goaltending. Arizona Coyotes (4-5-1, 7th in West) While having a stronger season than last year, Arizona are having a lot of luck in close games. 19th in Goals/Game and 15th in Goals Against/Game, Sean Durzi (4 G, 6 A) is the only player with 10 points in their first 10 games. Clayton Keller only has 5 points so far, and a -6 +/-. Arizona will likely need these players to heat up a bit if they want to keep in the playoff fight |

2024 November Recap
W 6-3 vs CBJ (Nov 2)
A multi goal night for Huberdeau and Sillinger, caps off a strong win for the Flames. Dan Vladar allows 3 goals on 28 shots, while the 46 shots of the Flames convert to 6 goals. With a +8 shot differential, Boqvist also plays his part, picking up an assist for his troubles. OTL 4-3 vs NJD (Nov 5) Another loss for the Flames, but they manage to take it into OT. Huberdeau picks up another 2 assists, and continues on a career high point pace. Timo Meier is the hero for New Jersey, scoring in the first minute of OT. SOW 4-3 vs SEA (Nov 7) Markstrom handles a 51 shot night well, only allowing the 3 goals despite huge pressure. Calgary struggles to gets shots off but it doesn't matter as they take the points in the shootout. Huberdeau moves into top 10 in the league for points. Transaction: Sharangovich to IL with torn biceps. Connor Zary to NHL. L 5-1 @ LAK (Nov 8) The Kings are too good for Calgary as they go up 2-1 in the 1st and never look back. Jacob Pelletier scores an unnasisted goal in the 1st and is the only Flames player to record a point this game. L 5-2 @ VAN (Nov 10) Another two goal night for Hubderdeau as Markstrom still leaves more to be desired in net. Janis Moser struggles defensively, and the Canucks are more than happy to punish the Flames mistakes. Transaction: After suffering a concussion during the Canucks game, Mangiapane moves to IR. Will Cuylle to the NHL OTW 5-4 vs BOS (Nov 12) Poirier scores his first NHL goal in his 9 GP, as a Hanifin hat trick is capped off with the overtime winner. Markstrom, while not elite, is getting into a much better rhythm. Trey Fix-Wolansky and Rasmus Andersson both deliver some strong hits and Hubderdeau picks up 3 assists. L 5-1 vs COL (Nov 14) Calgary could not get things going in this, only being able to create 25 shots. Huberdeau has a more forgettable game, as he gives the puck away 4 times. SOL 3-2 @ ANA (Nov 18) Despite absolutely dominating with 65 shots to the Ducks' 30, a Trevor Zegras goal in the final minute takes the game into overtime. Will Cuylle gets his first NHL assist, assiting a Noah Hanifin goal. L 5-4 @ EDM (Nov 20) An incredible game from Stuart Skinner and the Flames 58 points are unable to be converted into goals. Mackenzie Weegar had a dominant game defensively, making hits, blocking shots and being imposing on the blue line. W 7-5 vs DET (Nov 22) A 2 G 1 A night from Beauvillier headlines a strong offensive performance from Calgary. Vladar struggles in goal allowing 5 goals from 30 shots, but does enough to keep the Flames in the game. Huberdeau also gets two goals as the Flames top line continues its fantastic run of form. W 8-1 vs ANA (Nov 23) Boqvist (1 G 3A) could do no wrong, Markstrom easily dealt with 27 shots faced and the Flames form has started picking back up. The second win in two nights, Flames fans are still unsure of their expectations from this season, as the inconsitent form and bad goaltending nights overshadow the fantastic shot creation. L 4-2 vs NYR (Nov 25) Jonathan Quick favced 39 shots and only allowed two goals for New York. Mika Zabanejad has a two point night. Moser and Boqvist both play fantastic defense, but once again the Flames win shot differential but fail to win the game. W 6-0 @ FLA (Nov 28) Vladar kept a shoutout from 26 shots. Kadri scored twice and Beauvillier picked up a goal and assist. This game is perfect for Calgary and they are suddently 3-1 in their last 4 games. Transaction: The Calgary flames send Lucas Condotta to Columbus for Justin Danforth (25% Salary retained) and a 2025 5th round pick. "Our scouts admired Danforths shooting and believe he could help us convert more of the shot's we are making" confirmed Castonguay to the media shortly after the trade. SOL 5-4 vs PHI (Nov 29) Danforth does not take long to make an impact for Calgary, scoring in his second period in red. Vladar struggles against the Flyers and another Beauviller and Huberdeau multi point night goes to waste. Transaction: After giving up a 3rd line player in Condotta, the Flames acquire Anthony Angello off waivers. Team Leaders: Goals: Huberdeau (16), Kadri (13), Beavillier (11), Hanifin (6), Coronato (5) Assists: Beauvillier (19), Huberdeau (18), Kadri (16), Boqvist (14), Fix-Wolansky (13) Points: Huberdeau (34), Beauvillier (30), Kadri (29), Boqvist (16), Hanifin (14) Shots: Hubderdeau (101), Beauvillier (99), Weegar (76), Boqvist (68), Andersson (55) Hits: Huberdeau (37), Beauvillier (36), Weegar (32), Pelletier (31), Andersson (30) Prospects: Frederik Dichow (AHL) With a .920 SV% and 2.39 GAA, Dichow has taken the starting goalie spot over from Dustin Wolf. Until Vladar put a number of strong games together there was some serious discussions about bringing Dichow up to the NHL, and that still may happen before the end of his contract in the 25/26 season. Samuel Honzek (NHL) Honzek has become a regular in the Flames NHL lineup. Averaging just over 9 minutes a night, Honzek has two goals and an assist in his first 10 NHL games. Over the next couple of seasons Honzek has the potential to move to the upper lines for the Flames. Konsta Helenius (LIIGA) Helenius is looking easily ready for the NHL next year. His addition to the lineup will leave some questions in free agency, as the team have a number of playmaking options. Despite having a brief period out of the lineup from illness, Helenius has 6 G and 7 A in his 20 Liiga games. |

2024 December NHL Recap
Eastern
New Jersey Devils (17-6-1, 2nd in East) Rob Schuderi has been excellent in his first two months as an NHL head coach. Reigning Vezina winner Akira Schmid is having as good, if not better, a season as last year, with a .925 SV% and 2.65 GAA in his 22 GP. Timo Meier (24 GP, 10 G, 17 A), Jesper Bratt (24 GP, 13 G, 12 A) and Jack Hughes (21 GP, 18 A, 13 A) have all been regular appearances on Devils scoresheets. Tampa Bay Lightning (15-6-1, 5th in East) Vasilevskiy has been strong for Tampa as the Lightning with a .908 SV % and 3.20 GAA. Kucherov's 9 G 18 A from 22 games is also making headlines. However december may be a tough month for them, with Luke Glendening, Brandon Hagel and Mikhail Sergachev all on IR for a decent chunk of September. With their AHL depth not being particularly strong, there are questions who will fill in the lineup for Tampa. Washington Capitals (9-12-1, 15th in East) The Joe Sakic era in Washington begins with a rebuild. On the ice the focus of games becomes less about wins or losses and more about Alex Ovechkin, now only 25 goals away from the NHL goals record. Andrew Cristall, a 2023 2nd round draft pick, is one of the main young prospects on the team, with 2 G and 2 A from his 15 games. With a lot of expected room to grow, Cristall could be the face of Capitals hockey in a few years. Western Minnesota Wild (15-5-1, 2nd in West) Minnesota are coming into december wanting to be one of the best teams in the west. This year, another 1st round exit would be considered a failure. Kaprizov (23 GP 7 G 12 A) is not having the same strong year he had last season, but is still doing more than enough to keep the team playing well. Ryan Hartman is also getting a lot of eyeballs with a 15 G 13 A start in his 23 GP. Edmonton Oilers (13-12-0, 5th in West) Business as usual for the Oilers, McDavid (25 GP, 26 G, 23 A) is well on pace for his 3rd straight Hart trophy. Draisaitl (25 GP, 20 G, 23 A) is also on incredible pace. With both of them free agents over the next couple of years. Edmonton needs to consider if they really can make deep runs with the cap hit from two of the best players in the league at the same time. A lack of young talent may also hurt them, as the Oilers continue in a years long win-now mode. Seattle Kraken (8-11-3, 12th in West) A team with a talented young core, Seattle are getting close to their first playoff run. Matty Beniers (22 GP, 13 G, 10 A) is ready to be the star of a team and Shane Wright (21 GP, 7 G, 7 A) is a Calder frontrunner. While this team may have to unload some veterans over the next few years, Seattle has a very exciting future ahead of them. |

2024 December Flames Recap
W 6-3 @ WAS (Dec 1)
Calgary start decembet with a 57 shot, 6-3 victory over the Capitals. The best powerplay in the NHL scores again with Huberdeau setting up Boqvist for his 4th goal of the season. Markstrom faced 30 shots, allowing 3 goals. Rasmus Andersson also had a really solid defensive game, after a few less memorable outings in recent days. Transaction: With Andrew Mangiapane recovering from his concussion, he returns to the active roster while Cole Sillinger moves to IR with a shoulder strain. L 4-3 @ CAR (Dec 3) A trip to the reigning champions ends in a close loss for the Flames. Markstrom deals well against the Canes 47 shots, but lets in one too many to extend the game. Once again Beauvillier had a multi point night as the top line continues their strong form. OTL 4-3 @ MON (Dec 5) The flames weak form outside Calgary continues. Mangiapane impresses again with a 1 G 1 A night, but the Flames have to settle for the single point after Sean Monahan gets the OT winner. Markstrom kept the game close again as the powerplay unit went 1 from 2. L 8-3 @ LAK (Dec 8) The Kings prove too good for the Flames as Dan Vladar struggles to keep shots out. Andersson and Boqvist both struggle defensively and the Kings demonstrate why they are one of the best teams in the league right now. Breaking After a 11-15-3 start to the season, the Ottawa Senators make the decision that D.J. Smith will no longer continue as Senators coach. Former Washington Capitals coach Spencer Carbery will be taking over. Transaction: With Jakob Markstrom suffering a sore back he moves to IR, Fredrik Dichow is promoted to the NHL and is anticipated to make his NHL debut. W 5-2 vs ARI (Dec 10) Fredrik Dichow finishes his NHL debut seeing 33 shots and conceding two. Huberdeau has a 2 G 2 A night, extending his scoring streak to 6 games and moving him to 6th in the NHL in points. W 5-4 @ WIN (Dec 13) A second win in two NHL games for Fredrik Dichow leads him to make a case to remain on the roster. Hubderdeau has three assists and Beauvillier a goal and two. Boqvist takes the puck from opponents 5 times, while Angellos shows his strength on the lower lines. L 9-3 @ STL (Dec 15) Vladar gets the start and St Louis finds holes. With Markstrom expected back soon, Vladar is expected to lose his spot on the NHL roster. Jordan Kyrou impresses for St Louis, with 1 G 3 A. Transaction: Markstrom back from IR, Vladar to AHL OTL 7-6 vs VGK (Dec 17) Calgary manage to take Vegas to overtime, but barely as Marchessault scores 17 seconds in. Huberdeau picks up three points with a goal and two assists. Markstrom struggles in his first game back, allowing 6 goals from 34 shots before being switched out. Transaction: Calgary picks up Thomas Novak off waivers, Connor Zary to AHL SOL 4-3 vs WIN (Dec 19) Poirier sets up two goals and Beauvillier scores as both teams have 40 shot nights. Dichow continues to impress, making 37 saves despite the loss. Huberdeau's point stream ends at 14 games, though Anthony Beavillier is on a 5 game goal streak. W 5-1 @ ANA (Dec 21) Calgary has yet another 42 shot night as they put 5 goals past the Ducks. Markstrom makes 28/29 saves and Huberdeau has yet another powerplay goal. Beauvillier's goal streak ending is the only downside of this night. OTW 3-2 @ VGK (Dec 25) Markstrom turns things around from his game a few nights ago. Huberdeau scores as the Flames get to an even point percentage (14-14-7). If both goalies can keep this form up, Calgary might be able to string together some good win streaks. Transaction: Will Cuylle to AHL to make space for Cole Sillinger back from IR L 3-1 vs SEA (Dec 26) Calgary only manage 29 shots which Grubauer easily deals with. Matt Coronato and Noah Hanifin both struggle to fufil their defensive roles. OTL 4-3 @ STL (Dec 29) Another close game and another close loss. Sillinger gets his first goal since being back from IR and Markstrom deals with 36 shots. Binnington proves too good however, and the Flames leave Enterprise Center with just the single point. SOL 3-2 vs MON (Dec 31) The new years eve game ends in a shootout loss for Calgary, despite Markstrom having a fantastic 45 saves on 47 shots. Rookie goalie Jakub Dobes was too good for the Canadiens Prospects: Konsta Helenius (7th Ranked Prospect, 18, C, SML) - 25 GP, 8 G, 9 A Helenius is easily one of the stars for Jukurit Mikkeli. With a very accurate shot, Helenius will already be one of the better shooters on the Flames when he arrives for the 25/26 season. Helenius is currently on international duty for Finland's juinior world championship team. While not the best defensive player, Helenius should thrive with linemates who can make up for his lack of physical presence. Aydar Suniev (20, LW, NCAA) - 18 GP, 10 G, 10 A A transfer to RPI Engineers has been exactly what Suniev needed. Already beating his 23/24 goals tally, Suniev is having success as a power forward. While not the highest potential of the Flames prospects, he's one of the most NHL ready. Fredrik Dichow (23, G, NHL) - 6 GP, .907 SV%, 3.59 GAA After not signing with Montreal while they had the rights, the Flames signed former 5th round pick with the intent of him being an AHL goalie. With a 2.34 GAA in the AHL and questions in the NHL net, Dichow found himself unexpectantly promoted to the NHL in december. He's quickly demostrated that he's ready to play at the top level, winning both of his first two starts. |

2024 December NHL Recap
Eastern:
Philadelphia Flyers (20-13-2, 9th in East) Thing are going well for the Flyers in the post-Tortarella era. Carter Hart (.923 SV% , 2.78 GAA 24 GP) and rookie Alexei Koloxov (.900 SV%, 3.33GAA) have been a strong pair in net. Travis Konecny (35 GP, 23 G, 18 A) is having a fantastic season offensively and the team are tbe toughest to score against in the league. Their biggest concern is a sluggish scoring on nights where Konecny isn't taking control. Florida Panthers (10-21-5, 16th in East) Only two years away from a cup final and things are looking very different in Florida. Bobrovsky is having a weaker season with a .899 SV% and 3.85 GAA. Points are hard to come by, with the Panthers being the lowest scoring team in the entire league. Aleksander Barkov (36 GP, 11 G, 11 A) but with only the one two players on 50 point pace, the Panthers have a rough year ahead of them. Pittsburgh Penguins (21-16-2, 4th in East) The Penguins are well on their way to have another run at a cup for Crosby. At age 37 and yet to sign a contract for the 25/26 season, the time is ticking for the Pens to finish off a heavily decorated career with one last cup. Jake Guentzel (39 GP, 26 G, 31 A) has been a key player for them as always. A lack of youth for them is troubling but if they can win soon, the fans will be more likely to accept a rebuild. Western: Chicago Blackhawks (18-16-2, 8th in East) A busy free agency for them has not been particuarly fruitful for them in December. Steven Stamkos (22 GP, 8 G, 14 A) has been out since late november and Brady Skjei (26 GP, 4 G, 9 A) since early december. Despite this Connor Bedard (34 GP, 22 G, 21 A) has been having a very strong second season in the NHL Arid Soderblom (30 GP, .910 SV %, 3.23 GAA) has outperformed expectations and the Blackhawks may be in with a chance for postseason hockey. Nashville Predators (16-20-0, 12 in East) Nashville has been struggling with offensive production this year. Filip Forsberg (31 GP, 20 G, 11 A) is the only player on point-per-game pace. Roman Josi (36 GP, 6 G, 13 A) has been fine, but maybe not $9 million worth. Juuse Saros has also been solid this year (29 GP, .909 SV%, 3.05 GAA) but is yet to sign an extension in Nashville. Yaroslav Askarov (9 GP, .978 SV%, 3.63 GAA) has struggled in his rookie season, but has the potential to grow into another strong starting goalie. Vegas Golden Knights (25-7-2, 3rd in West) Another dominant team continues their dominant run. Shea Theodore (34 GP, 7 G, 29 A) has been dominant from their blue line for much of the season. Despite missing most of october with a dislocated shoulder, Jack Eichel (21 GP, 18 G, 17 A) has also been really impressive. With a mostly unchanged lineup from last year Vegas are looking to return to the playoffs and make a deeper run this year. Calder Race: The race for the Calder trophy is a lot tighter this year. Phillipe Daoust (OTT, 35 GP, 9 G, 23 A) leads all rookies in points while Luca del bel Belluz (32 GP, 15 G, 13 A) leads rookies in scoring and is close on Daoust's heels in points. Standings as of Jan 2nd |

Yesss, it's a bit annoying that you can't truely tank in this game without turning off being fired, but honestly happy with where we are, especially without our own 2025 1st round pick (part of the real life Monahan trade). Potential playoff team this year with Ritchie and Helenius both looking super promising for next season.
Hopefully we can keep this form going and sneak in. |

Calgary Recap January 2025
Breaking News
The Nashville Predators have made the decision to part with coach Andrew Brunette. After leading them to a 14-20-0 start where scoring had stagnated, General Manager Barry Trotz announced that assistant coach Dan Hinote will take over for the rest of the season. Hinote has always been good with coaching players, but is yet to demonstrate if he has the tactical skills to take a head coaching role. W 7-1 vs ARZ (Jan 2) Kadri scores twice, Moser picks up a goal and two assists. A 5 goal 2nd period put the game far out of question. Markstrom also plays well, allowing just the one goal right before the final period ends. Calgary outshoots Arizona 39-28. L 6-1 vs TBL (Jan 4) Another impressive goaltending performance, this time against the Lightning. Calgary outshoot Tampa 34-23 but Markstrom can't make it out of the first 10 minutes, being pulled halfway through the first. Dichow plays below average in replacement, allowing 3 goals off 17 shots. W 3-1 @ TBL (Jan 7) Dichow's start against Tampa goes much better. Despite being outshot 35-27, Calgary opened the scoring and never trailed. Coronato picked up 2 assists, and Beauvillier scored his 21st goal. In more difficult news, Huberdeau pulls an abdominal muscle, and will be out for 1-2 weeks. L 8-5 @ DET (Jan 9) The first night without Huberdeau and Calgary is unable to win the high scoring affair. Markstrom struggles again, being taken out of the game halfway through the second period. Beauvillier was the pick of Flames players, with 2 G 2 A. W 3-2 vs BUF (Jan 11) Boqvist gets a shorthanded goal with a Sillinger assist, and the Flamesc continue their January. Markstrom also has a much better game, finishing the game for the first time since the Arizona game. W 6-4 @ OTT (Jan 13) Beauvillier gets 3 G 2 A and absolutely dominates Ottawa. Markstrom gets through his night on back to back road trip games. W 6-2 @ DAL (Jan 14) Mangiapane gets 2 G 1 A, Beauvillier gets 1 G 1 A. Dichow concedes two goals from 32 shots, while Calgary turn 39 shots into 6 goals. Justin Danforth also gets 1 G 1 A and proves Calgary as the winner of that trade, with Condotta currently in the AHL. SOW 6-5 vs VAN (Jan 18) Huberdeau comes back into the lineup and immediately makes an impact with 1 G 1 A. Beauvillier picks up an assist against his former team, while Markstrom does well enough to get the win against them. L 4-2 vs VGK (Jan 20) Calgary struggled to create chances, going 0-4 on powerplay opportuninties and only making 28 shots on goal. Pelletier was the best of the Flames, with a goal and an assist, while Janis Moser helped keep them in the game with 4 blocked shots and an all around strong defensive effort. L 6-5 vs WAS (Jan 21) In a 46-40 shot high scoring affair, Washington's 6 extra shots were enough to get the extra goal past Dichow. Adam Boqvist adds two points to his total, with a goal and an assist as well as 6 hits. Strong defensive games from players like Nic Dowd from Washington were enough to keep the slim lead. W 4-1 vs OTT (Jan 25) A bounceback after a slow run of form. Calgary wins the shots 31-29, and Beauvillier picks up two goals and an assist. Markstrom has another strong game, with a .966 save percentage on the 29 shots he faced. L 5-3 vs EDM (Jan 28) Connor McDavid was too good for the Flames, scoring a hat trick against Markstrom and making the difference. The shots were pretty similar (Edmonton getting 35 to Calgary's 33), but Calgary only scoring once from 7 powerplay chances is not something you can do against the best player in the league. Huberdeau continues his successful run of form with another goal. SOL 4-3 @ VAN (Jan 29) The canucks absolutely dominate the shot totals, 53-36, but Dichow is able to hold out into a shootout. Beauvillier and Mangiapane both went scoreless, with Mangiapane only making a single shot on goal. Backlund was the key offensive producer, setting up two goals. Prospects: Frederik Dichow (23, NHL) - 12 GP, .911 SV%, 3.37 GAA Dichow has put aside any thoughts that his promotion to the NHL was a bad idea. Having fitted in excellently as a backup goalie, Dichow is 4-2 in net, with a decent number of his games being coming in to replace Markstrom. Ryder Ritchie (21, WHL) - 44 GP, 20 G 20 A The best offensive player on the Prince Albert Raiders, Ryder Ritchie is finding a lot of success in the WHL. Ritchie should be able to contribute to the NHL team next year, likely both defensively and also with his strong puckhandling. Etinne Morin (19, QMJHL) - 37 GP, 11 G, 32 A Morin's playmaking should allow a couple of offseason moves to clear up a bit of cap room by unloading a highly paid Defenseman. While not the strongest defensively, he should be able to take charge on the powerplay in the near future. Leaders: Goals: Huberdeau (31), Beauvillier (29), Kadri (27), Pelletier (13), Danforth (12) Assists: Beauvillier (36), Huberdeau (32), Kadri (32), Boqvist (29), Fix-Wolansky (23) Points: Beauvillier (65), Huberdeau (63), Kadri (59), Boqvist (36), Pelletier (33) PIM: Hronek (36), Moser (25), Backlund (23), Weegar(21), Poirier (20) Hits: Weegar (79), Beauvillier (77), Huberdeau (66), Andersson (65), Fix-Wolansky (64) |

NHL Recap January 2025
Eastern Conference:
Detroit Red Wings (29-16-4, 2nd in East): Dylan Larkin's game has gone to a whole new level in janurary, with a 25 point month. Of the Red Wings 13 games this month, Larkin only had 3 scoreless games, and had 5 multi-goal nights. He has made up a lot of the distance between him and Kempe/McDavid in the Hart race, and has helped his team into a safer playoff spot. Columbus Blue Jackets (26-14-4, 9th in East) Columbus has been ravaged by injuries this month. Drake Batherson (36 GP 8 G 28 A), Johnny Gaudreau (46 GP, 28 G, 25 A) and Matheiu Olivier (21 GP, 3 G 3 A) have all been out for long stretches with injury. Depleted in their lines, Columbus has struggled to hold onto their spot in the standings. Western Conference: Nashville Predators (24-25-0, 10th in East) Under new head coach Dan Hinote, the Predators are playing much better hockey. Going 10-5 in their first 15 games with him in command, the Preds are starting to move back into the playoff fringes. Filip Forsberg (44 GP, 28 G, 18 A) and Juuse Saros (41 GP, .917 SV%, 2.72 GAA) St. Louis Blues (20-26-3, 12th in East) Outside of a playoff spot for now, this season has not been particularly exciting to be a Blues fan. Jordan Kyrou (49 GP, 31 G, 22 A) is about the only skater that has been regularly scoring, as the Blues are 18th in Goals/game and 28 in Goals Against/Game. Trade Deadline Preview (NHL) There are a few interesting pieces available on the trading block. Mitch Marner is in his last year with Toronto and is yet to resign. He is currently on the trade block, but a $10.9 million cap hit may make it hard for teams to afford him. Kyle Connor is another interesting possible move, with a more affordable $7.1 mil cap hit. Flames: Upcoming Free Agents: Andrew Mangiapane: Despite having a down year, there is value in bringing Mangiapane back to the team. While he may not be as valuable once some of the current prospects settle in to their NHL roles, he could be a solid bridge over the next few years. PLAN: Re-sign Justin Danforth: Danforth has found a lot more scoring skills once he has come across to Calgary. While a useful part of the lineup now, he would likely struggle for a place in the lineup once Ryder Ritchie comes into the side, who is potentially already better. PLAN: Listen to offers, let walk in FA Thomas Novak: Wanting a large increase in salary, Novak would likely not be worth resigning, instead allowing players like Will Cuylle back to the NHL roster off the AHL one. With a no-movement clause, Calgary is unable to trade him. PLAN: Let walk in free agency Adam Boqvist: Boqvist in an interesting case, he's easily on the best offensive defenseman in the lineup right now. He wants 4 mil AAV over 3 years to resign, which is not a huge pay increase, but other upgrades may be available. PLAN: RFA Cole Sillinger: Acquired on waivers, Sillinger is unable to be moved before next season. As an RFA, Calgary can assess their lineup without him before having to make an offer. PLAN: RFA The plan is to be relatively quiet in free agency, and instead let this season play out before boosting the team in the offseason for a 25/26 season headlined by a number of young stars. |

Breaking
Calgary announces two new extensions for the forseable future. Andrew Mangiapane signs on until 2029, at 6.46 mil AAV. Trey Fix-Wolansky also extends for 3 years at 2.2 mil AAV. In other transaction news, Leon Draisaitl announces he has re-signed in Edmonton for 8 years with a 11.52 AAV. W 4-1 @ ARI (Feb 12) Calgary come off the bye week and get rolling again. Dichow makes 42 saves from 43 shots while Calgary finally scores another powerplay goal. Fix-Wolansky repays the faith shown in him, with a two point night after signing his extension. W 6-4 @ SJS (Feb 13) With Mangiapane having to take a game off, Calgary ends up with 48 shots against San Jose. Danforth ends the night with 2 G 2 A, and Honzek picks up 2 A of his own. The powerplay goes 0-3 but even strength shooting makes up for it. L 9-3 vs PIT (Feb 15) Nothing goes Calgary's way as neither Goalie puts up much resistance and the Flames concede 9 goals from 38 shots. Only positive news is that the powerplay finally scores again. SOW 5-4 vs LAK (Feb 17) Bouncing back into the win column, Beauvillier's 1G 1A help Calgary take the points in the shootout. Dichow stayed strong with LA challenging him 47 times. W 7-6 vs MIN (Feb 22) Mangiapane comes back for a high scoring affair, where both teams use both goalies. Dichow struggles but still does better than Minnesota's goalie, allowing 6 goals from 28 shots, to Gustavsson's 4 goals from 7 shots. Beauvillier has a 3 point night, scoring twice, while Kadri finishes with 5 assists. W 5-2 vs PHI (Feb 25) Honzek's two point night was the headline as Calgary put aside the Flyers. The Flames went 1/1 on the powerplay and Beauvillier picked up two assists. Dichow also impressed, saving 37/39 shots. Transaction Calgary send Dan Vladar (G, 27) to LA for LA's 2025 and 26 4th round picks Sharangovich to IR, Cuylle to NHL Breaking Sidney Crosby announces he will extend for another year at 4.92 million in Pittsburgh. W 4-2 vs VAN (Feb 27) Dichow continues his strong form, saving 39/41 shots. Hronek picks up two assists against his former team. Leaders Goals: Huberdeau (33), Beauvillier (32), Kadri (29), Danforth (16), Pelletier (13) Assists: Beauvillier/Kadri (42), Huberdeau (41), Boqvist (32), Fix-Wolansky (25) Points: Beauvillier/Huberdeau (74), Kadri (71), Boqvist (40), Pelletier (33) Hits:Weegar (88), Beauvillier (86), Huberdeau (76), Fix-Wolansky (74), Andersson (70) Prospects: Jaden Lipinski (20, WHL) - 59 GP 29 G 43 A Lipinski is a very effective offensive presence for the Brandon Wheat Kings. On 80 point pace, and second in the WHL, Lipinski should be more than ready to compete for an NHL roster space next season. Aydar Suniev (20, NCAA) - 34 GP 19 G 18 A Tied 3rd in the NCAA for points, Aydar Suniev is a really promising power forward prospect. Between him and Ritchie, the Flames should be able to bring a strong young physical presence over the next few seasons. Last edited by rhaums; 02-15-2024 at 04:49 AM. |

2025 Feburary Recap
Eastern Conference:
Montreal Canadiens (41-15-4, 1st in East) Montreal is easily the best team in the East at the moment. 4th in the NHL in goals per game and 4th in goals against per game, Montreal are a tough team to face. Cole Caufield (55 GP 36 G 45 A) has been fantastic for Montreal this season so far. Jakub Dobes (47 GP, .907 SV%, 3.10 GAA) has been their main netminder. Pittsburgh Penguins (34-23-2, 3rd in East) The Crosby (50 GP 26 G 39 A) extension is just the latest in a successful season for the Penguins. 9th in goals per game and 1st in shots against per game the Penguins are in a strong position to take the top seed in the Metropolitan division. Toronto Maple Leafs (35-23-4, 2nd in East) With speculation around trading Mitch Marner at the forefront, the Leafs are in an interesting situation. With 62 GP 22 G 58 A, Marner is a key part of a Toronto team that is aiming for a deep playoff run. However, with a deal yet to be signed, people are wondering if the Leafs are better making a move instead of him walking away in the offseason. Western Conference: Vegas Golden Knights (40-13-6, 1st in East) Another President's Trophy contender, Vegas are in the driving spot in the west's playoff standings for now. With a 4 point lead in the west (and a game in hand), the toughest team to score against is looking to reclaim the cup. Shea Theodore (59 GP, 19 G, 41 A) is the leader for the Norris right now, and is two points off a career high season with over a month to go. Jack Eichel (29 GP, 26 G, 24 A) has also impressed when injury hasn't kept him off the ice. LA Kings (39-17-4, 2nd in East) With Kempe in Hart contention (60 GP, 44 G, 64 A), Los Angeles are still in the running for their second straight President's Trophy. Pierre-Luc Dubois (60 GP, 38 G, 56 A) is also having an excellent season, as the Kings are the highest scoring team in the NHL. Winnipeg Jets (35-20-5, 3rd in East) While not as strong as some of the leaders in the Pacific, the Jets have the lead in the Central. They are one of the best scoring teams in the league (3rd), but are also somewhat leaky, only sitting at 21st for goals allowed per game. Kyle Connor (56 GP, 42 G, 35 A) has been their biggest offensive contributer. Last edited by rhaums; 02-15-2024 at 05:19 AM. |

L 5-1 @ CHI (Mar 1)
Bedard (1 G 2 A) was too good for the Flames, as the Blackhawks outshot the Flames 39-28. With none of the scoring coming through, the Flames win streak ends at 4. L 6-0 @ NSH (Mar 2) Back to back challenges for the Flames goaltending. Nashville made 42 shots, while a Vezina calibre performance from Saros kept the Flames scoreless off 34. The trade deadline arrives with surprisinglyfew moves. Transaction: Poirier to IR, Aspirot to NHL W 4-1 vs CHI (Mar 4) Calgary finally get a win this month. The Flames outshoot 38-28 and Soderblom has no answers. Danforth picks up a goal and assist, while Beauvillier picks up two assists. Transaction: Sharangovich off IR, Cuylle to AHL W 4-3 vs CAR (Mar 6) Dichow outperforms Andersen in net, as both have to face over 35 shots. Adam Boqvist has himself a 3 point night. Despite this there were a number of blue line players who had rougher defensive games, though were bailed out by Dichow. W 6-5 vs BUF (Mar 8) Dichow struggles, allowing 4 goals from 13 shots. From here Markstrom fills in and has a much stronger performance, compounded with a 44 shot night from Calgary to take the win. Boqvist has another multi-point night, while Janis Moser has a goal and three assists. Boqvist combined this with a fight against Connor Clifton in the second minute of the game for a Gordie Howe Hat Trick. W 3-2 @ NJD (Mar 11) Boqvist stars once again with two goals and an assist. Akira Schmid has a respectable .935 SV%, but when facing 46 shots, ends up letting the three through. Calgary temporarily sit 3rd in the Pacific. W 8-1 @ CBJ (Mar 13) Outshooting Columbus 43-22, the Flames were in total control of the match. Boqvist had another two goal night, and Thomas Novak ended up with a goal and three assists. Also interestingly neither team got a powerplay the whole night. W 6-1 @ PIT (Mar 15) The win streak moves to 5 and the Flames move to an even win-loss record. Dichow has a spectacular game, making 36 saves, while Honzek's 3 assists and Angello's 2 G 1 A are more than enough to challenge Jarry. W 4-2 @ DAL (Mar 16) Back to back game and back to back wins for Calgary. Danforth (0 G 2 A) and Moser (0 G 1 A) both reach 100 career NHL points. Transaction: Poirier off IR, Aspirot to AHL W 4-3 @ MIN (Mar 18) The Flames keep winning and begin building distance from the fringe playoff spots. Hronek was the highlight of the night, with 1 goal and two assists. OTW 4-3 vs TOR (Mar 20) It gets close, but a 42 save night from Markstrom is topped off with a OT goal from Beauvillier to give Calgary their 9th straight win. Beauvillier also finishes off with an assist, proving a valuable addition to the top line. SOW 5-4 vs DAL (Mar 22) Another game needs more than 60 minutes, but the Flames move to 10 unbeaten. Dichow has a fantastic 48 save night, as Kadri's 2 G 1 A headlined the skaters. W 4-3 vs CHI (Mar 25) Despite going down 3-0 to the blackhawks in the early 2nd, the Flames rally back over a 50 minute stretch to get the four goals they needed. Janis Moser picks up another two assists, and Beauvillier and Novak both end with a goal and assist. W 5-1 vs NSH (Mar 27) Calgary continues their strong run of form, with Kadri (1 G 1 A) and Beauvillier (1 G 1 A) helping them to another convincing win. With two goalies in strong form, Calgary are developing an underdog chance in the postseason. L 5-2 @ COL (Mar 29) The win streak finally comes to an end. Markstrom struggles facing 29 shots with a .828 SV%. Danforth and Weegar score the two goals for Calgary. SOL 6-5 vs EDM (Mar 31) No matter what, Calgary seems to be unable to win the Battle of Alberta. Poirier openend the scoring on the penalty kill and followed up with a second goal. Calgary outshot the Oilers 46-38, but couldn't win the shootout. A successful month ends in a loss. Leaders: Goals: Huberdeau (40), Beauvillier (36), Kadri (34), Danforth (20), Pelletier (16) Assists: Beauvillier (53), Huberdeau (48), Kadri (46), Boqvist (44), Hronek (35) Points: Beauvillier (89), Huberdeau (88), Kadri (80), Boqvist (59), Pelletier (43) PIM: Hronek (38), Weegar/Backlund (32), Moser (29), Huberdeau (28) Hits: Beauvillier (112), Weegar (104), Huberdeau (96), Andersson (90), Fix-Wolansky (90) Prospects: Mazden Leslie (RD, 19, WHL) - 63 GP 11 G 30 A Another one of the offensive defensemen prospects for Calgary, Leslie has put up a 41 point season in the WHL this year. While unable to help Vancouver to the WHL playoffs, Leslie was the best defenseman in points, and 6th skater. Definitely being considered for the NHL roster next season. Etienne Morin (LD, 20, QMJHL) - 55 GP 17 A 41 A Another excellent offensive presence option for the Flames. Morin was 5th in skaters for points for the Moncton Wildcats and is looking to be a key part of their scoring as they aim for a deep playoff run this year. Samuel Fiala (C, 19, QMJHL) - 65 GP 18 G 32 A In the same first round playoff series as Moncton is Fiala's Val-D'Or Foreurs. Having a much rougher season, Fiala was second amoung all players in points, and led the league in assists. The only concern for Calgary is he fills rolls that already are filled by a number of players on the team. Last edited by rhaums; 02-15-2024 at 05:14 PM. |

Eastern Playoff Race:
At 50-21-4, Montreal, led by Cole Caufield (70 GP, 45 G, 59 A) and Brendan Gallagher (74 GP, 38 G, 50 A) are more than secure in a playoff spot, and are currently 1st in the league. Pittsburgh (44-29-2), Boston (41-25-9), Tampa (42-27-5) and Carolina (42-28-4) also look like they will be playing postseason hockey. Dylan Larkin (73 GP, 69 G, 61 A) and his Red Wings (38-28-7) are sitting just inside the wildcard spaces with games in hand against most fringe teams. The Devils currently sit 3rd in the metropolitan, but with a fairly middle of the road goals and goals against per game, they're in close competition with Colubmus (38-31-5 for that position). Ottowa (37-30-8) and Toronto (39-30-5) are also in playoff contention. Western Playoff Race: Vegas (48-20-6) and Los Angeles (48-22-4) are more than safe as they will use april to contest the President's Cup. Colorado (45-22-8) and Winnipeg (44-24-6) are also safe, with Calgary (39-24-11) and Minnesota (42-30-2) are also in strong positions to secure postseason hockey. Current Hart favourite Connor McDavid (74 GP, 80 G, 52 A) has his Oilers in a wildcard spot, alongside Vancouver (37-30-8). Juuse Saros and Nashville (39-32-2) are really the only other team that could make the playoffs at this stage. |

2025 April
W 5-2 vs VGK (Apr 3)
Markstrom and the top line star again. Calgary scores 5 goals from 42 shots with Beauvillier and Kadri both picking up 1 G 2 A. Justin Danforth provides 4 takeways for the Flames. OTW 3-2 vs COL (Apr 5) Honzek scores himself another game winning goal in overtime. Markstrom makes 34 saves and the Flames score on their only powerplay chance. W 7-5 vs WPG (Apr 6) Another set of wins on consecutive nights for Calgary. Beauviller has himself another 3 assists while Huberdeau has a goal and two assists. The fans are starting to debate who should be the goalie in the postseason. W 6-2 vs SJS (Apr 8) Markstrom has himself a 33 save night as the Flames put 6 past Mackenzie Blackwood. Mangiapane has himself four points, including a goal and Danforth scores twice. L 5-1 @ EDM (Apr 10) Stuart Skinner makes 40 saves against Calgary and Makrstrom is unable to deal with the 32 shots he faces. Danforth scores, but the Flames awful Battle of Alberta record continues. W 5-0 vs NSH (Apr 12) Beauvillier has himself a hat trick (and assist) as Markstrom shuts out Nashville, in only the second shutout for Calgary. With only two games remaining, playoff fever is getting ready in Calgary. L 4-0 vs SEA (Apr 14) Seattle gets a shoutout against Calgary as Markstrom has a shaky start ahead of the playoffs. Justin Danforth sprains his ankle, and will have to miss the first round. Transaction Danforth to IR, Ben Jones to NHL. W 6-3 @ SJS (Apr 17) Calgary finish their regular season with a win. Markstrom makes 23/26 saves. Hanifin scores twice and Mangiapane has a 1 G 2 A night. All eyes turn towards the upcoming trip to Vegas in the playoffs. Regular Season Leaders: Goals: Huberdeau (44), Beauvillier (41), Kadri (38), Danforth (24), Pelletier (17) Assists: Beauvillier (61), Huberdeau/Kadri (52), Boqvist (47), Hronek (36) Points: Beauvillier (102), Hubderdeau (96), Kadri (90), Boqvist (63), Pelletier (46) Hits: Beauvillier (123), Weegar (116), Huberdeau (110), Andersson (101), Boqvist (94) |

Stanley Cup Playoffs 2025:
East: Toronto (WC2) vs Montreal (1) With their reputation for struggling in the postseason, Toronto will have a point to prove against the Canadiens. 7th in goals scored, the Leafs with two 100 point players (Matthews - 77 G 43 A and Marner (27 G 75 A), will be looking to challenge Montreal's young goaltending early. After missing out on the President's Trophy by one point, Montreal will be looking to prove themselves. Boston (3) vs Tampa Bay (2) A team that has been solid offensively and defensively if only just above average, Boston, led by David Pastrnak (77 GP, 48 G, 45 A) will be looking to finally win a cup after 11 playoff runs without one. Tampa's (sitting at 8th in goals against) will be hoping Vasilevsky (.904 SV %, 3.21 GAA) will be enough to keep Boston out of the net. Detroit (WC1) vs Carolina (1) With Larkin as a Hart finalist, the Red Wings will be looking to him to help upset the defending champions. 6th in goals per game, Detroit will have to challenge Carolina's defense (2nd in goals against) as the away team in this matchup. Columbus (3) vs Pittsburgh (2) 4th in goals against, and with a 113 point season from Guentzel, the Penguins will be hoping this is the year for a fairytale ending to Crosby's career. 12th in scoring, Pittsburgh should be able to outplay Columbus who are 21st in goals and 15th in goals against. West Edmonton (WC2) vs Los Angeles (1) With two Hart finalists, Edmonton's mission to get McDavid a cup continues. 2nd in Goals, the key for Edmonton will be to ensure that their top line is performing, as the lower lines are much less impressive. They have a tough job ahead of them though, facing the Kings in their second straight President's Cup, with Kempe having something to prove after not being named a Hart finalist. Calgary (3) vs Vegas (2) 8th in Goals, Calgary went 2-1-1 against Vegas this season, which may be good enough to get the upset. With Markstrom in form towards the end of the season, it's widely anticipated he will start the series. Anthony Beauviller has been a great addition to the Calgary top line, scoring 102 points after coming over. They will face one of the best blue lines in hockey, with two Norris finalists from Vegas. Vancouver (WC1) vs Colorado (1) After a magic run last season, Vancouver will be hoping to recapture that in 2025. Petterson only reached 99 points and will be hoping to dominate in the playoffs to make up for missing the 100 point mark. Demko is in fine form as the Canucks' netminder this postseason. They face the Avalance in their first season of the Lamoriello era, 3rd in both goals and goals against, Colorado will be a tough challenge. Minnesota (3) vs Winnipeg (2) Winnipeg (the 5th best team in goals this year) take on Minnesota (21st in goals against). With no player reaching more that 71 points, the odds for Minnesota this year are relievely low against the scoring of Winnipeg. |
