Well, when the contract dropped from 11 million per year to 2 million per year, he had to make up the difference somehow...Did you expect him to eat out of dumpsters?

2026 has ended, and nobody picked up Joey. Its a pretty good bet he'll retire in the off-season. I'll give a full update and final stats and his career rankings as soon as I can, however I'm working on a project for one of my online leagues, so my time is limited for a while.
2026 is my 25th year of play for the league, and to celebrate that, in 2027 every team is going to get a new stadium. So, setting that up will take some time, too. Hence, it may be a couple of weeks until 2027 gets off the ground. Thanks for your interest, support and patience.

The Joey McKinley Saga Comes To An End
Everybody retires sometime. For Joey, it was after the 2026 season. Joey had only 8 major league at-bats in 2026 before being sent to AAA, where he was released in June. He was resigned by San Diego on September 21, 2026, however he did not appear in any major league games for the Padres. He retired after the season, leaving behind a legacy of greatness and reservations in Cooperstown.
At the end of 2023, Joey had ratings of 9/2/2/10/8/3. At his retirement, they had declined to 6/1/0/1/4/1. His talent ratings have dropped to A/P/P/P/F/P. Ricardo Casella bounced back from injuries to post a very solid .329/31/99 year. However, age is beginning to catch up to him, and his ratings have declined to 6/1/0/9/7/6. He'll be turning 38 in the off-season, and it looks like he is going to be at the end of his career soon, too. I'll cover Darren LeFlore in this thread for this post, however he'll be moved to another thread along with his teammate. 2026 was He suffered through a few more nagging injuries, and still posted career highs in homeruns, RBIs and runs. At the end of 2025, LeFlore was a B/A/F/B/B/A with ratings of 8/4/2/6/6/4. By the end of 2026, these had improved to 9/5/2/9/8/4. Darren should be set for a huge breakout in 2027. Now, here's Joey from 2026 and his final career numbers, and Casella's 2026 and his career numbers, Darren LeFlore's 2026 and career stats.
Here's Joey's place in NCL history: Batting Average: 2nd with .347 (1st is Ichiro Suzuki @ .351) Hits: 1st with 3,672 Homeruns: 5th with 716 RBis: 3rd with 2,122 (A-Rod is 2nd with 2,147 and Juan Gonzalez is 1st with 2,258) Walks: 4th with 1,964 (trailing Barry Bonds (2,080), Rickey Henderson (2,141) and Jason Giambi (2,144)) Runs: 1st with 2,288 Casella will be a 600 HR, 2,500 hit man when he retires, however it looks like he, too, will fall short of being the all-time leader in major statistical categories. Here's a follow-up on a couple of other players I mentioned in the last stat review, Andrew Flores and Cordell Joubert. Andrew Flores pounded 43 more homeruns to bring him to 763 for his career. He turned 38 late in the season, however his ratings are still a solid 6/6/4/14/1/2, so he should definitely pass A-Rod (who has 764) and has an excellent chance of catching Sammy Sosa, who is the career leader with 784 HR. At age 41, Joubert did not come anywhere near his great 2025 season, hitting only .268, with 24 HR and 95 RBIs. He now has 2,964 hits and 506 RBIs. His career average dipped back to .299, however he'll still make the hall on the strength of his homeruns and the fact that he should finish with over 3,000 hits. With end of year ratings of 7/4/2/8/6/5, Cordell still has some life left. As mentioned, it will be a while before I get 2027 rolling, as I am moving all of the teams to new stadiums.

I'm glad everyone enjoyed watching Joey's career as much as I did. And thanks for the kind words, fantom. I hope you enjoy the careers of Darren Leflore and Christopher Thielen as they evolve. While they are actually players on my team this time, I still don't think they will capture the same place in my heart as did Joey.
