Art Devlin was claimed by the New York Giants.

Apaprently we have the second worst Minor League system in the Majors.

Our top Prospects are Rip Hagerman (57th) and Ping Bodie (58th).

The Experts expect us to finish 6th in the NL with a 75-79 record.

They are wrong. We will surprise them.

Predictions:

AL - Boston Red Sox
NL - Philadelphia Phillies

Top AL Hitter - Joe Jackson, White Sox
Top AL Pitcher - Ed Walsh, Athletics

Top NL Hitter - Tris Speaker, Rustlers (Frank Schulte at #3)
Top NL Pitcher - Bob Wicker, Phillies (No Mathewson? What?)

Doc Smoot was granted his release.

Farmer Ray was placed on waivers.

Opening Day and Christy Mathewson did what Christy Mathewson does - win.

He was ably aided by Frank Schulte homering in his first at bat of the season.

The Dodgers beat the Rustlers, 5-3.

WP - Christy Mathewson (1-0)
Save - Tommy Atkins (1)
LP - Scott Williams (0-1)

Record - 1-0

Sam Crawford was claimed off waivers by the Reds. Sad, but it was the right thing to do.

It was the Dodgers first visit to the newly renovated Polo Grounds and things were going well. But in the 8th and 9th a 6-2 lead evaporated and finally the Giants got the walk-off to win 7-6 in 10 innings.

For the Bigs it was Duffy Lewis, Cubs & Ty Cobb, Browns

The Dodgers are way down at #14 on the Weekly Power Rankings.

The Dodgers overcame six errors in order to beat the Giants, 5-4 in 14 innings.

Frank Schulte's triple following Ham Hyatt's pinch hit single did the trick.

Morrie Rath left the game with a strained hamstring but he will probably only day a day or two off.

WP - Christy Mathewson (3-0)
Save - Hub Pernoll (1)
LP - Ed Willett (0-1)

Record - 4-3

Our game against the Rustlers was rained out.

Tomorrow is now a double header.

It is actually a small blessing as that allows Morrie Rath the time he needed to feel 100%

It wasn't Christy Mathewson's best outing, but it was good enough as the Dodgers took the first game of the double header against the Rustlers, 10-5.

WP - Christy Mathewson (4-0)
LP - Buck O'Brien (0-2)

Record - 5-3

Jack Coombs pitched well but a Bris Lord error in the 8th gave the game back to the Rustlers... but not so fast! A Bris Lord double in the 9th tied the game back up and an RBI single by Paul Baker gave Brooklyn the 5-4, walk off win!

WP - Jack Ferry (1-0)
LP - Tom Hughes (1-2)

Record - 6-4
