You may put the neutral file into the game and when the season ends it will begin using the new factors and import the players without attempting to adjust them.

The calculate park factors gives results that look reasonable except for Coors. Altitude seems not to be considered. Lots of HRs fall a few feet short and become doubles and triples, ratings for which are huge. I did manual adjustments.

I suggest just using the real stats and the neutral park factors. The neutralized player stats have not been updated in many seasons.
Maybe the limit on the HR factor has something to do with creating stadiums for Perfect Team or something. |

After a certain season the neutralized stats are identical to the real stats because they were not updated properly.

I used the calculate feature on all 2003 parks except Coors where it was obviously off. The average of the 27 on BABIP is 1.012. Which is reasonably close to the goal of 1.000 but actually it doesn't matter as long as its comparatively correct.

However, I'll let someone who it affects take on the mission of pitching it to the developers. I'm happy to support it though. |

The neutralized statistics go through the 2008 season.
Generating park factors by using the distance to the fences is just simply not how park factors actually work, but since there is a feature that allows you to create your own ballpark something probably needed to be added to the game. Both the quadratic factors and the discrete factors need to have a corresponding import process to account for how they affected player statistics so that when playing in any stadium they have realistic results. Since this process is not correctly implemented into the game my suggestion is to use the neutral park factors so that when the game references those factors everyone will import based upon their real statistics without being adjusted using an inaccurate process. What SB issues have you seen? The fielding issue is the most significant problem. The affect of the fielding imbalances can be a hundred runs saved per team, whereas the park factors do not affect scoring nearly that significantly. |

One honest question I have always had: Why do players who played only in independent leagues get rated so high for potentials in the draft or in general? Many times, their league is listed as MLB which I do not understand. This skews players ratings quite a bit.

By independent leagues do you mean the Union League of 1884, the Players League of 1890, and the Federal League of 1914-1915. The player ratings from those leagues are from their raw stats and many only played a few seasons so their potential may be misleading. I suggest setting to Potential to Remaining Seasons in Career, but if you are using recalc with development disabled the potential tells you if the player is going to still be getting better or if they will be declining but you should also consider how many seasons the player has remaining.

At present I prefer the calculations because (except in the case of Coors) the results present the appearance of being reasonable while many park factors calculated from events do not. |
