Mike Dornan is having a bit of a rough start in single A. He's hitting .262 with 3 doubles, 6 RBI, 3 walks, and 6 Ks through 16 games. He was moved from DH back to RF after the first 10 games of the season. He's with an NL team, meaning he has to play the field if he makes it to the majors, so it's probably good for him to get those reps in.

Chad Slusar was reassigned to the Hagerstown Suns, a new high-A affiliate for the Orioles, where he has struggled big time through 11 games as the starting CF and #9 hitter, hitting just .167 and playing poorly in the field.

Mike Dornan picked it up a bit for the Redbirds. He's now hitting .278, good for third on the team in average. In 45 games so far, most of which in RF, he's scored 22 runs, hit 10 doubles, 2 HRs, 22 RBI, and walked 14 times while striking out 11. His fielding has been fine but not great.

After hitting .194 through 16 games in Hagerstown, Chad Slusar was sent back to the A Miami Orioles, where he's performed much better. He's hitting .371 after 9 games, with 5 RBI and a couple steals. They've got him hitting second and playing LF rather than CF, which seems to be a much better spot for him.

Mike Dornan had a solid month of June, hitting .309 for the month. On the season, he's now hitting .289 with 16 doubles and 4 homers in 70 games. He's got 40 RBI, 30 runs, 17 walks, and 12 Ks. He was called up today to the Padres' High-A team, the Reno Silver Sox, where he'll bat second and be in the DH role.

Chad continued to play fairly well for the Miami Orioles. In Miami, he's hit .304 with 12 RBI in 35 games. He's now hitting 6th, and his play in LF has actually been above average.

Matt Warnke has been horrible so far. In 7 games, he's made 6 errors at SS and is hitting .120. I think he'll turn it around and it's very early in the season, but I'm glad I got the commission on his signing bonus because he won't make much more money for me at this rate.

Qualls is hitting .235 with 1 HR so far, but he's only played 8 games. Too soon to tell anything really.

Mike Dornan is back to playing RF rather than DH. He's hitting .286 with a .374 OBP in Reno through 26 games there.

Chad Slusar is playing quite well in Miami. In Miami, he's hit .351 with 16 doubles, 5 triples, 27 RBI, and 28 runs in 60 games. He's become quite proficient in LF as well. Slusar has been performing well, but I do fear he's reached his full potential already. I think it likely that he'll be a high-level minor league player at some point in his career, and maybe even have a couple brief stints in the majors, but nothing more.

Jim Qualls is playing pretty well too. In 31 games, he's hit .273 with 5 HRs and 23 RBI. He's also stolen 6 bases in 9 attempts and walked 11 times, but he does strike out a lot with 23 Ks so far.

Matt Warnke continues to be a disaster. He's played 19 games now and is hitting .194. He's committed another 6 errors at SS. This may be the worst $40,000 the Twins ever spent if he keeps this up.

Meanwhile, the San Diego Padres have a nice 6 game lead in the NL West. Could they make their first playoff appearance since drafting Mike?

Qualls and Warnke have wrapped up their first pro regular seasons.

Qualls hit .272 with 8 HRs over 56 games. He hit 36 RBI, had 16 BBs, 40 Ks, and scored 31 runs. He was 10-13 on SB attempts. The Paintsville Yankees didn't make the playoffs.

Warnke played 49 terrible games this year. He hit .184, striking out 37 times. He recorded just 33 hits, but 11 of them were for extra bases. He committed a total of 21 errors at SS. Horrible. But they keep trotting him out there and having him bat 9th. Elizabethton came in 2nd in the league, so they'll play the Kingsport Mets for the championship.

The Elizabethton Twins lost to the Kingsport Mets in a 5 game series. Chad's season is over.

Dornan finished strong in Reno. He ended up hitting .331 in 63 games there, with 13 doubles, 2 triples, 3 HRs, and 44 RBI. He walked 27 times and struck out only 6. He also scored 39 runs.

Chad Slusar played 99 games in Miami, hitting .314 with 22 doubles, 7 triples, and 45 RBI. He walked 8 times and recorded 50 Ks. He stole 11 of 18 bases and was a plus fielder.

The Dodgers beat the Tigers 4 games to 2 to win the World Series.

The Padres blew their lead and missed the playoffs entirely.

The Offseason begins.

It's draft day, and perhaps my most exciting one yet with four clients in the pool.

SP Johnny Stanley is a consensus top 10 pick. The OSA has him going 7th to the Astros, with Dwight Gooden being the only pitcher picked ahead of him. The OSA also has OF Lee Maye going in the early 3rd round to the KC Royals. Pitchers Cody Allen and Jim Bridges were not projected to go in the first 5 rounds.

The Twins selected Kal Daniels first overall. The Cubs took Dwight Gooden next, making Stanley the best available pitcher, according to most scouts. The Rangers drafted Jose Canseco with the third pick, and the Royals took Kirby Puckett fourth. The Reds then went with Mike Greenwell, dashing our hopes of a top 5 pick for Stanley. We got the next best thing, though, as the phone rang and Seattle picked Johnny Stanley 6th overall! Stanley has a scholarship waiting at Eastern Michigan University, so I'll have to negotiate a good deal if I want him to sign.

Cody Allen ended up being drafted in the 2nd round by the Royals with the 40th overall pick. Inexplicably, he insisted on signing the minor league contract before I had the chance to negotiate a signing bonus. What a missed opportunity.

The Twins drafted Lee Maye with the first pick of the 3rd round, 65th overall. I'll start working on negotiating his signing bonus as well.

Lastly, the White Sox drafted Jim Bridges in the 20th round with pick number 524. They didn't offer him a signing bonus, so he just took the minor league deal. It's all he could get.

An exciting draft with 3 clients going in the first 3 rounds!

I negotiated a signing bonus of $580,800 for Johnny Stanley from the Mariners. I'm quitting my job at the supermarket and moving into NYC as soon as I get my cut to focus full time on baseball. I knew this agent thing would work out!

Lee Maye's signing bonus from the Twins will be $42,000. Not bad!

Hank Aaron and Frank Robinson are now in the HOF. Aaron was elected unanimously.

Spring training begins today, and Lee Maye became my first client to get an invite. His best shot to make the team seems to be as a center fielder or backup outfielder/pinch hitter. The Twins have relied primarily on Tony Armas in CF for the past three years since they acquired him in a trade from the Athletics. In those 3 years, he's hit a respectable .267 with 94 HRs, so Maye would have to impress to win the starting role. I think he has a solid chance of making the team, but probably as a bench bat.

Despite a subpar performance in Spring Training, Lee Maye has made the Twins opening day roster as the backup CF! He will also pinch hit and provide depth at LF, RF, and DH. He will earn a salary of $52,800 for the year and will wear #18. The Twins are not expected to be competitive this year, so I'm more focused on Maye's individual performance than team success this season.

21-year-old Mike Dornan will start the year with the AA Amarillo Gold Sox, still working his way through the Padres organization. He will play RF and bat third.

Chad Slusar, now age 25, will also start in AA, with the Charlotte O's. He's expected to bat 8th and play LF.

Qualls, Bridges, and Warnke will all start with rookie teams.

In his first 8 games, Lee Maye has struggled at the plate but done a decent job in the outfield. He's hitting .185 in 27 ABs, but he's hit 3 HRs. The Twins started out 8-14.

Mike Dornan was moved to DH on opening day and has hit .245 with 1 HR in the first 15 games.

Chad Slusar has played really good defense in LF but struggled with the bat, hitting .194 in his first 9 games.

In 24 games, Lee Maye has hit .228 with 5 HRs, 16 RBI, and 2 SB. He's gotten some time in all 3 outfield spots, but mostly CF and LF. The Twins are 21-30, 9.5 games behind the Angels for the division lead and in 5th place.

Mike Dornan has picked it up recently, now hitting .312 through 38 games. He's also hit 5 HRs, already a career high, and 21 RBI. He struck out just once in the month of May. He's also moved back into RF where he's played solid defense.

Chad Slosar, on the other hand, hasn't improved much at the plate. He's hitting .235 and has struck out 21 times in 34 games. His play in LF continues to be stellar.

Meanwhile, it seems the White Sox have decided to try playing Jim Bridges at 1B rather than as a pitcher this year. I don't think he'll pan out as a hitter, but we'll see how he performs when his rookie league season begins later this month.

Lee Maye improved slightly this past month. He's now hitting .244 on the year and added 2 more HRs in June for a total of 7 through 38 games to date this season. He's now hit 30 RBI, walked 8 times, and struck out 24. He's hitting much better against lefties (.314/.351/.686) than righties (.219/.272/.323) which is a surprise considering he's a lefty himself. He continues to play well in LF and CF. The Twins are 34-44, good enough for 4th in the division.

Mike Dornan had a solid June in AA, but not quite as good as his first month of play. He hit .277 for the month, bringing his season slash line to .301/.349/.478 in 58 games. He's up to 6 HRs and 33 RBI for the year. He struck out only twice this past month and is still playing well in the field. The Amarillo Gold Sox are first in the division despite a losing record of 35-36.

After hitting .229 through 43 games in AA, Chad Slusar was sent back down to the Hagerstown Suns, Single-A ball. He's been in the 6-hole and playing LF. In 16 A games, he's hit .400 with 5 doubles and 7 RBI and has done well in the field.

Cody Allen pitched just 3 times, earning 3 saves in scoreless appearances, for the rookie league team before being called up to the Single A Fort Myers Royals, where he's filling the closer role. He's thrown 5 innings in 4 appearances there and has yet to give up an earned run while registering 9 Ks, earning 1 win and 2 saves.

Johnny Stanley started out in the rookie league where he made 4 starts, going 1-3 and posting a 4.03 ERA in 22.1 IP. He struck out 13 and had a WHIP of 1.61. He was then called up to Single-A Bakersfield Mariners, where he's made 2 starts so far and pitched 16 innings. He's gone 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA and 1.50 WHIP.

Newly converted 1B Jim Bridges has yet to make an appearance for the rookie league team. I'm starting to worry the White Sox will give up on Bridges before he even gets a chance.

Jim Qualls hasn't hit well in 11 games in the rookie league with just a .232 average, but it's still early and he hit .272 last year, so hopefully he'll rebound. His fielding has been stellar.

It's only been 9 games, but Matt Warnke continues to play like garbage, having hit .182 (he did hit his first professional HR). His fielding is a little less disastrous than last season as he's only committed 1 error so far.

Bad news as both Jim Bridges and Jim Qualls were released today, Bridges by the White Sox and Qualls by the Yankees. The White Sox tried to convert Bridges from a pitcher to a hitter but didn't like what they saw and cut him before they even gave him a chance in a game. Qualls just failed to impress I suppose. Now it's my job to try to convince some other club to take a flyer on them. That'll be easier to do for Qualls than Bridges; I worry the latter's career will be quite short.

Lee Maye was sent down to AAA for the last week of July, but he tore it up there hitting .464 in 7 games, so he was quickly brought back up to the Twins. He's hitting .256 with 8 HRs in 53 major league games this year and has been strong defensively. I think he'll be a solid bench piece for years to come, but at age 25 this is probably about as good as he'll get.

Mike Dornan continues to play well in AA, now hitting .306 with a career high 22 doubles on the season through 79 games.

Cody Allen has been a solid closer so far, now having made 14 appearances in single A. He's 2-0 with 7 saves and a 1.69 ERA with an impressive 11.8 K/9.

Chad Slusar has been good in single A and even won a player of the week award. He's hitting .309 with 12 doubles and 16 RBI in 44 games.

Johnny Stanley had a rough month with an 8.04 ERA in 6 starts in single A. His last 3 starts are what did him in. He gave up a total 20 runs in just 8.2 innings.

Matt Warnke broke his kneecap 3 days ago. His season is over, and it'll take 7-8 months for him to recover. Who knows whether the Twins will even give him another chance when he returns. He hit .194 this season in 24 games and has -1.5 WAR after a season and a half of pro ball.

Mike Dornan sprained his ankle pretty bad in today's game, and it'll take him 6-7 weeks to recover, so he's probably done for the year. In 81 AA games, he hit .312/.367/.464 with 7 HRs, 47 RBI, 49 runs, and 22 doubles. He was mostly at DH, but played well in his 16 games in RF.
