Over here, the 'Glou went 99-63 and missed out on the wildcard by 1 game. On the other side of the conference, two teams went 84-78 and played a game 163 for that conference's second wildcard ![]()

Chiles got swept, Broncos lost in game 5 and the Clippers swept their way to the league championship
ETA...lost first 2 games of LCS, rallied to win game 3. Playing against a team I have played against many time, looks like they have made the playoffs about 20 times and just won for the 1st time 3 years ago. out in 5.....

I haven't spent any money on the game since 21 came out. I just accumulate points. The Broncos have been trying for months it seems to close out the Giants collection and I just was able to add Perry/Walsh/Posey to the team and I am 7 Mets away from closing that one out to add Gooden.
I was also able to add Blue to the Chiles and am working away at the rest of the Athletics collection to add Waddell. The Clippers are 6 away from closing out the Phillies collection to add Schmidt and Ashburn, so maybe some of these additions can get me over the hump at some point

This season I added 5 new players, the most in for-ages. 99OVR Barry Bonds to DH against RHP (he's been awful so far - his BA just now reaching the .190s - his BABIP had been below .200 for the whole season to this month, so just really bad luck I guess). I pulled Barry, which meant I could pretty cheaply finish the MadBum Giants mission, all the cards I needed surprisingly available in the AH. SE MadBum is now my 5th starter. Also finished the White Sox collection, and SE Walsh goes into the 2-spot on my rotation. SE Appling comes in to play 3B against LHP and back-up 2B and 3B against RHP. I pulled 97OVR Gagne the same morning I pulled Bonds which tickled me not only because I've never pulled 2 historical diamonds that close together but also because of the gentleman's agreement that Bonds and Gagne had (favoring Bonds, imo). Gagne is no use to me but he did enable me to finish the LoDuca Dodgers mission. LoDuca is my catcher vs LHP, and plays against RHP when SE Scioscia is tired, so about every 4th game. I'm still contemplating playing LoDuca every 3rd game against RHP. Mike LaValliere had a pretty good run, playing as my backup catcher and late inning defensive replacement from 2030-2099. SE Hornsby and SE Wright have moved to reserves, making me a bit weaker vs LHP but we're still holding our own there. I'm 2 cards away from completing 2 other mission sets and am also working on a couple other individual missions. Accumulating PP and grinding tournaments.

Last week my Hamtramck Tigers team failed an attempt to win 6 PL titles in a row! I grabbed Simmons to be my catcher--I wondered why no one was grabbing it for the low, low price of 300K. It was the SE one, not the HOF one. I suppose he's better than Burgess... Anyway, only 2 gold players left on this team-- the SS duo of 84 Pesky and 88 Boudreau, although Boudreau is strictly backup as I picked up SE Ozzie as well. I bid adieu to 100 Joe Gordon who I won in a tournament after he batted .133 in about 70 games, in favor of 99 Gilliam.

So it seems like the 'Glou beating you guys in 7 games in the LCS back at the end of August kickstarted you into action... ![]()

Lost in 5 in the World Series yesterday. Was in the same conference last week as dkgo but avoided him in the postseason as he was top seed and I was second seed and he got beaten by the wildcard
![]() Added SE Cash to the roster for this week, at the expense of SE Fielder, who put up a very good season last week. 99OVR Bonds never got going in 2100, hitting .215/.333/.343 in 569PA (DH vs RHP, backup RF vs LHP if everyday RF tired; only started 1 or 2 games against LHP iirc). His babip was a paltry .226, though. I'll see how he goes this season and if he stinks up the joint again I might demote him in favor of Fielder for the DH role vs RHP. Or I might move SE Salmon back to everyday DH against all pitchers and bring SE Hornsby or SE Wright up to strengthen the lineup vs LHP. Here's my current 25-man, in case anybody's interested (Stirnweiss plays SS and Reese 2B, btw):

Yep. Looks like most options are now 8-player, 4-pack for 1st place. The daily's have been reduced from 32 to 16, too.

This year, the Clippers are 77-21. And 3 games out of first. .786 win pct and I am going to be a wild card team. I have 210 stolen bases. On pace for about 350 steals. If I could get the perfect Ozzie Smith, then all my starters would be getting around 25 steals a season and they are such a good fielding and pitching group, 2 starters have sub 2 ERA's. I am going out of town this weekend, watch this be the year when I can't follow it. Broncos have a 3 1/2 game lead. Lots of power on this team. The Chiles are a dozen games out of first but have a 9 game lead in the wild card, so it looks like a 1 game play in game is in their future. 1st in HR's, 2nd in SB's, pretty well rounded team, except they can't catch

What are your ballpark factors? This is based only on my observation, and I have taken no time to see if the evidence backs it up, but it feels like it is easier for me to manage in the playoffs against teams with heavy left- or right-handed ballparks. I run a neutral ballpark, and a fairly balanced pitching staff, so I feel I can pretty easily adjust to playing teams with those types of ballparks, especially if they have lineups to match.

Well, this was a strange season...
Let me start right at the end. The 'Glou picked up their 2nd PL title, cruising to a 4-1 series victory over the Norway Vikings ![]() ![]() ![]() A good ending, if I do say so myself. Now let's look at the oddities of 2101. The 'Glou finished 108-54 to grab the top wildcard. Our pythagoreon was 121-31. Yes, we finished *13* games below where we should have. Some of that would be down to four 20+ run wins over the season, including a 29-0 thrashing of a division rival. We also only went 24-20 in 1-run games, and were 5-6 in extra-innings games. There could be another factor, too. The 3-time PL champs SLC Punks took home the best record in our conference, going 123-39, 2 games above their pythag. They were also in our division. We played them 19 times during the regular season. We won once. 1-18. ![]() ![]() We faced them in the Division Series. But we'll get to that in a moment. First, more regular season oddness. We scored 962 runs. That's the most we've ever scored at any level. Our previous best at perfect level was 885 in 2096, the year of our first championship. Regular season niceness time. Peak Pedro took home the Triple Crown. 25-7, 1.96 ERA, 265 strikeouts. He also won the Cy Young and the MVP. Mike Trout had a very non-PL Mike Trout season. For me, at least. Meaning he hit for average as well as power, going .289/.406/.539, with a conference leading 37 dingers. He scored 133 runs, walked 103 times, and drove in 125 runners. All 3 elements of that slash-line, plus the runs scored and driven in, were career perfect level highs. To compare, his average PL slash-line is .229/.350/.418, though he has been noticeably better over the last decade or so as I've surrounded him with better hitters. We hit 190 homers but gave up only 80. Now to the postseason... Won the wildcard game against the Central Falcons 4-2, moving on to that match up with the SLC Punks. I was quietly confident, actually, as I prepared for that series last night (timezones mean I have to get the team ready for the Division Series the night before, even if I'm a wildcard). I was due a few bounces, for one, and SLC runs a ballpark that slightly favors LHP. Their lineup vs LHP is also much weaker than their lineup vs RHP. So I set Eppa Rixey to start Game 1 and SE MadBum to start Game 2. We scraped through 3-2 in 10 innings in Game 1, only tying the game up in the 9th. Game 2 was a 2-1 loss, though MadBum threw 6.2 strong innings, Dotel taking the loss. Back at our house, Peak Pedro started Game 3, and we won 5-3. Ed Walsh got touched up a bit in Game 4 and we went down 7-4, setting up Game 5 back in their yard. Rixey started again. We were the better team, collecting 13 hits and 6 walks but only just squeaked home 5-3. Next round we took on the Grit City Goon Squad, 3-time PL champs who finished the regular season 119-43, 2 games below their expected record. Their park heavily favors RHB, so MadBum went into the pen as a lefty specialist and SE Sheets took his rotation spot. With Rixey having thrown Game 5 of the Division Series I didn't have to do any juggling to make sure he didn't start until we were on home soil. Surprisingly, we swept the Goon Squad, though 3 of the 4 games were decided by 1 run. We ended up having 6 days off before the PL World Series started. The rest turned out okay. # In other 'Glou news that matters to no one but myself ![]() I also have twelve packs to open thanks to 3 tourney wins in the last couple hours so. Let's see what we get!

With 3 games left in the 2102 regular season it looks like the 'Glou are going to finish 15 games below pythag...

So Peak Pedro starts the final game of the regular season needing a win (and not to get beat up in doing so) to secure the Triple Crown.
He does this:
